Description from the owner

Frith's Cottage

Located in the centre of the market town of Ashbourne, Frith’s Cottage is well situated to explore all that the local area has to offer. Being the gateway to Dovedale, Ashbourne is certainly an excellent venue for those wishing to explore the Derbyshire Dales and Staffordshire moorlands on foot. For those who prefer pedal power, the Tissington Trail starts in town and offers a cycle friendly route to Hartington and beyond.

Ashbourne is well appointed with fine pubs and hostelries, as well as great restaurants and cafes for those wishing to be catered for. Traditional butchers, bakers and an excellent fish and gam...Read more

      Excellent Derbyshire retreat.

Left on 03/24/2013 for a stay in March 2013

Our weekend plans were ruined by the weather (22nd to 24th March) We were basically snowed in so we decided to make the most of it and have a very quiet weekend in the cottage. With spending so much time in the cottage, it made us realise what a beautiful place the cottage was. It has everything you could possibly need.. Home from home! Once we arrived, we put the heating on full blast and made the most of a snug, warm, comfortable quiet weekend. A real pleasure to stay in such accommodation which I highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying at Frith's Cottage.

      What a lovely weekend away.

Left on 01/12/2013 for a stay in July 2012

The boyfriend and I spent a few days here in the summer. It was a wonderful stay - the cottage is lovely and quiet and tucked away, but the location of ashbourne let us get out into Derbyshire.. wonderfully close to Bakewell and its puddings.
It is in the perfect spot in ashbourne - tucked away, but still right in the centre, near to the friendliest two pubs, a rather nice butcher's, and a baker's. The supermarket aren't too much of a walk away either.
A quiet day in with a stack of dvds, and CDs for the sound system, was also rather nice and chilled out, topped off with a takeaway from the local Chinese (which is pretty fantastic - the spring rolls are enormous).
The only thing we regretted not doing was being able to be out picnicking on the patio - between the rain showers it looked to catch the perfect amount of sun and shade.
Overall, rather beautiful and homey, and perfect for a weekend away.

Lovely cozy cottage in great location!

Excellent stay at Friths Cottage, would definatly recommend it, we went as a couple with our dog, the cottage is in a quiet location with private garden, so clean and cozy and in excellent condition, there are lots of lovely walks around Dovedale and a great selection of pubs that allow dogs in within 2 mins of the cottage. Would recommend the Bowling green for a steak and the horns for a sunday roast or a beer by the open fire!
If you want to explore the peak district you have to stay here! 10/10!

A perfect base for exploring the Peaks.

When we get to go on holiday we want things to be smooth and easy ! This holiday cottage was perfect for that - Ashbourne is easy to get to ( we travelled by car), the cottage is just off the Market Place in the centre of town,so no problem to find, and the arrangements regarding getting the keys, etc could not have been simpler. We particularly liked that the cottage was so close to everything - shops, restaurants and the very helpful tourist information office, yet once through the gate it's like being in a secret little world ! Frith's cottage is well equipped, had everything we needed and was very comfortable. It was nice to feel 'at home' after days out walking in the beautiful countryside that is all around the area. We visited 'Dovedale' - a must-see, Alton Towers, Matlock, Bakewell and Buxton. All within easy reach by road and all with plenty to see and do. Looking forward to a return visit !

      Our Honeymoon

Left on 08/26/2012 for a stay in August 2012

My husband and i decided on this place through a friend that had stayed here, and very glad we did!
Although striaght of the main town, you immediately discover that you have a relaxed feeling of isolation, enclosed with your own private courtyard.
The cottage was fully furnished with everything needed, it was very peacefull, both rooms had double bed, and beautifully furnished,It felt like a home form home and we felt constatly relaxed.
The local ammenities was very good, with two big supermarket stores, many local shops, from tea rooms to antique shops.
We discovered a local Italian restaurant, chinese, fish and chip shop, plus many fantasic pubs all with in a 5-10 mins walking distance.
Not to mention the well kept and lovely park and pond area, fantastic for family picnics and activities together.
We found the town and the locals to be very friendly and helpfull, giving advise on the places to visit, failing that the tourist information is across the market/carpark area.
Parking appeared to be our only obstical(it is possible to park for a short time in the market place),however,a solution was found at the tourist info place that we could purchase a 7day,parking permit for any carpark with their emblem on,for just £15.00. Plus a Carpark was less than 5 Mins walk away! No issue what so ever.

We enjoyed the Tissington cycle trail where you can hire bikes or walk, however start early so you get the full benefit of the extensve trail.
On a gorgeous day we took a short drive to Ilam, and did the dovedale walk ,highly recommended, for all who love to walk and explore.
We definately plan to stay here again in the future as there is till more to do and see.

      Fine time at Friths Cottage

Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Lovely cosy well equipped little cottage, that is situated very near all required ammenities - pubs, supermarket, restaurants, newsagents & even tourist information. It is just off the market square though you would never guess that as it has a wonderful quiet seclusion with a nice patio garden.
We had some lovely days out as ashbourne is well situated for many interesting outings,we visited Heights of abraham in Matlock,Alton Towers & Sheffield. When the weather was not so good,we had cosy evenings in with the tv & stereo, just a shame we couldn't have sat out in the garden more.Would definately book again.
