Winter Park, FLA perfect escape indeed
Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in May 2011
What a beautiful, peaceful place tucked in the mountains with lot of privacy, truly the perfect escape! We were looking for rest and relaxation -- which we found, especially in the cozy living room and on the back deck to take in the view. Enjoyed the hot tub, the well equiped kitchen and the loft bedroom. Thank you for the fresh flowers and bottle of wine upon arrival -- that was a nice touch. The location was ideal -- as asheville with it's eclectic shops, restaurants and downtown offered for several fun outings. We'll definitly be back -- maybe in the winter in hopes of getting stuck in the snow!

Indianapolis, IndianaRemote - SUV recommended
Left on 05/19/2011 for a stay in October 2010
Driveway is gravel and fairly steep, we had a tough time manuvering a car successfully/easily.
Very remote. Lots of curvy roads to get to home. do not advise finding the home in the dark for the first time.
Owner didn't check in during or after our stay to make sure all was well.
Owner did allow for a shorter mandatory stay to accomodate a fall break weekend.Response from Valentine VanZee - 06/07/2011

The access road to the property and the driveway are gravel... it's about 4/10th of a mile from the paved road to the house. "Fairly steep" is debatable, to a flatlander it might seem so, but really it's not... there is a gradual grade, but not steep and nothing scary. I go to and from frequently in an 8 year old Saab convertible, and my housekeeper drives a small American sedan... we maneuver without difficulty. A 4-wheel drive is recommended in winter when snow and/or ice might be a issue. We are in a rural community --no street lights-- it's quite dark at night, and if you're not familiar with mountain driving you are well advised to arriving before sunset.
Remote - we are not:
12 to 15 minutes from a super-supermarket (on the way to and from Asheville)
14 miles (a 20 minute drive) from Asheville... add 5 to 8 minutes to get the the downtown district and/or the Biltmore Estate
35 minutes to the charming mountain town of Waynesville, or to Maggie Valley
30 to 50 minutes to 3 different entrances/exits to the Blue Ridge Parkway - makes a great afternoon drive to get on the parkway at one entrance and exit at another (without having to backtrack)
45 to 50 minutes to Hot Springs, NC (another pretty drive and a great place for hiking, biking, etc)
