We selected asheville because it was halfway home from Florida where we had our wedding ceremony on 12/27/12, also because we had heard so many good things about asheville. Since we were traveling with dogs, a fence is a must as they enjoy running around and taking in the smells untethered! Red Gate Cottage was so very much more than a fenced-in cabin in the woods. It is hard to describe all the personal touches that Georgia has put into the cottage to make it so magical. In fact, we probably missed some awesome asheville sightseeing because the cottage would not allow us to leave! We enjoyed the limitless options of vegetarian/vegan fare the city had to offer and are already looking forward to future visits.

Amherst, MassachusettsA beautiful cabin in a fascinating city!
Left on 11/30/2012 for a stay in November 2012
We came to asheville for a 3day weekend of hiking and cultural events. The cabin was charming, cozy, beautifully and thoughtfully put together. We were close to town and grocery shopping, wonderful restaurants, but had the feeling of retreating to a mountain cabin. The only thing which wasn't completely perfect is that the hot tub was foamy and didn't feel as clean as the rest of the immaculate cabin. We will be back!

The hot tub is normally in perfect condition. On that day my cleaning lady was unexpectedly sick. John & Betsy were checking in on the same day that other guests departed, so I ran out of time to change the hot tub water. This is the first complaint about the tub ever (no other complaints either). I will make sure it does not happen again.

Pittsburgh, PAEvery thing you need in an enchanted cottage...
Left on 10/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012
It was a pleasure dealing with Georgia, she handled all of the arrangements with great attention to detail. The cottage was darling, all of our needs and expectations were met and surpassed. The gated yard was wonderful for exercising our 2 year old golden retriever with no fear of traffic. It is in a great location, close to the Grove Park Inn and asheville. There are cute outdoor spaces, some of which we never found time to enjoy, altho hours were spent talking, drinking and snacking on the deck. The washer and dryer were handy as we were heading to the beach after our 3 night stay. The gas fireplace took the chill off of a cool fall evening. We loved exploring how the cottage has evolved over time, altho we never did find the secret storage place in the master bath cabinet. Thanks, Georgia, we had a good time and would recommend it highly...

Thanks for another wonderful stay at Red Gate Cottage. Anne and I and our dog Smith thoroughly enjoyed our time here and will surely return next year during our spring break. We took full advantage of the hot tub and fireplaces, which made our mountain getaway all the more memorable - and magical. Asheville is a Shangri-La! You would have to be out of your mind not to enjoy this town. The food is amazing - I don't think we had one bad meal the entire time - and the wine bars are lovely and sophisticated. The River arts District was fantastic - a beautiful day! All of these experiences were enjoyed in a beautiful, comfortable place to return to every night - Red Gate Cottage!

Many, many thanks for the use of Red Gate Cottage! We had an absolutely fantastic time, as did Fern, Selkie, and Frennie. It's clear how much thought and care has been put into this place, and your excellent hospitality was manifest from the welcome cookies for all, to the wine, to the hot tub, to the deck, the two spots outside for having a fire, etc., etc.! We availed ourselves of everything! This is such a gorgeous area, with so much history, and my father, a Black Mountain College alum, especially enjoyed reminiscing as we traversed asheville and its environs. We are anxious to return. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Nashville, TNAsheville + Red Gate Cottage = Perfect Honeymoon
Left on 12/05/2011 for a stay in September 2010
We discovered Red Gate while looking for places to go on our honeymoon. My husband is British and new to america so I wanted to find a place that offered beauty as well as lots of fun options for coffee shops, restaurants with a unique downtown vibe. Asheville was the perfect choice!
We immediately felt at home at the Red Gate. Georgia was so kind & accommodating to us, leaving wine & cookies for us which was such a sweet gesture. The cottage was warm and peaceful and had tons of character - you can tell much thought was put into the construction & design of this special place.
Location was great! Easy access to both downtown asheville & the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you're wanting to stay in, there's a grocery store conveniently just down the road... we had a great time grilling out on the deck and cooking English-style breakfast in morning!
This summer, my husband's family will coming over from England and joining up with us along with my parents and the 6 of us (with our 2 K-9 friends) will be creating new memories at the Red Gate once more! We're so looking forward to it! -

We just left this wonderful cottage after spending four days enjoying the folliage. The cottage is centrally located and an easy drive to get too. The Parkway is only minutes away as well. Georgia is a wonderful hostess. Our Maltese Lilly even had a biscuit with her name on it upon our arrival and we had a bottle of wine waiting to be shared. The three couples felt like we were at home as the cottage contains every imaginable ammenity to meet our comfort and needs. I never got to meet Georgia in person, but we had several phone conversations where she made me feel like a friend rather than a tenant. I highly recommend this cottage to everyone.

Fayetteville, NYWonderful and comfortable home
Left on 07/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011
The Red Gate Cottage was one of the finest and well-equipped homes that we have rented in over thirty years of travel with my cousin and her husband. The owner is very warm, welcoming her guests with a bottle of wine and homemade cookies. Everything in the house was not only in working order but of good quality. The two bathrooms are spa-like and kept immaculately clean. The owner makes maximum use of space so that there is ample storage for everything. She has also provided many amenities not normally found in rentals such as a hair dryer, soaps, spa flip flops, teas, coffees, and condiments. The feel of the home is like being in Europe: stone walls, terraces and outdoor cooking and eating areas. Perhaps one of the features we most enjoyed, particularly after hiking in the gorgeous nearby mountains, was the hot tub. Once again, the hot tub was immaculately clean and well cared for with ample seating for four people. The beds were made up with fine linens and the mattresses were top notch. Truly, this is a first class property with none of the cost-cutting features that one frequently finds in properties used for rental. After a wonderful week in asheville, I not only recommend a visit to this beautiful city but definitely a stay at the Red Gate Cottage. We stayed only a week but I certainly wish it could have been longer!

The Little Red Cottage was just perfect for our girl's getaway in asheville. The owner, Georgia, was so hospitable, welcoming us with a bottle of wine and homemade cookies. The cottage has been decorated in the most adorable way and the gardens and outdoor space add to the most peaceful atmosphere. Totally recommend it!

Georgia,
Just want to thank you so much for letting us enjoy your wonderful Red Gate Cottage. It is just as lovely as the pictures you see online. I loved that it was so secluded yet so very close to everything. We were always surprised that wherever we were going was only a few minutes away. Our doggies also had fun and loved their walks with the horses and cows to greet us. The Hot Tub was great as well as the porch! Such a lovely area. The cookies and wine were also appreciated after a long trip. Thanks again and we look forwarded to spending more time there. Mary ann and Joe from Maryland. -

ChicagoA Little Slice of Heaven
Left on 06/27/2010 for a stay in May 2010
Just returned from two weeks at Red Gate Cottage and a little slice of heaven. Though the asheville area was experiencing an unusual 'heat wave', the cottage was cool and delightful, and with the shade trees, the deck and yard were enjoyable, too. We explored the asheville area during the daytime, then spent most late afternoons and evenings on the deck. We didn't see any wildlife, though at night you could hear coyotes and during the daytime, an occasional rooster or wild turkey. Thhis very cute cottage is an ideal set-up with its split bedroom layout, comfy beds, a nice living room area with tv, dvd and games, and a well-equipped kitchen with an attached eating area. The washer/dryer in the mudroom was definitely a plus for us. We were traveling with our dogs, so the fenced yard was perfect. All in all, a great vacation home, and one that we'll return to again on our next visit to the area.

FloridaThe Red Cottage
Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in November 2009
My recent stay at The Red Cottage could not have been more pleasant. The location is perfect-at the foot of the Blue Ridge Parkway yet just a mile or 2 from a main road with Fresh Market, Starbucks, etc. at the intersection. Another excellent grocery not to be missed is Green Life a bit south also on Merriman.
The cottage is not only perfectly located but is utterly accommodating in a carefully planned yet not fussy way. I was there for peak leaf color and could see the colors changing on the surrounding mountains from the deck. Nighttime is fun if you like sitting around a fire which I did either on the deck with the chiminea or at the fire pit. The hot tub doesn't even need to be warmed up-it's ready to go and the owner has provided big cozy robes and slippers to wear to and from. Everything works well in the cottage making it utterly comfortable and charming. I'm already thinking of my next stay there.
