There is an incredibly beautiful view from the house, but then it is all downhill. We had a tough time getting in since the pool gate was tightly locked. The main problem is temperature control in the house, which is truly impossible--one brm roasts while the others freeze. There is no upstairs bathroom, so one has to walk into one of the bedrooms to use the facility. The downstairs "master brm" is a joke---it is in the cellar, very uncomfortable bed, the shower was not usable, and to top it off, there is no mirror!! Makes shaving kind of difficult. My son lives nearby and we plan to visit again, but not in this house. It's a lot o money for a summer camp experience.
The house looks nice, the kitchen is decent and well equipped and we had a nice family reunion in spite of all the problems. My son lives close by and we plan to come up again, but certainly not to this rental. It's a lot of money for a summer camp experience.Response from Carolina Mornings - 02/01/2013

We have been renting vacation homes for more than 20 years, and this was by far the worst experience we have ever had. The house was truly filthy, smelly and rundown and the service from Carolina Mornings (the rental agency) was awful. Our rental was for 7 days, and the house was not properly cleaned until we were 4 days into our vacation. We could not use the downstairs "master suite" because no one wanted to sleep there, so we ended up buying an inflatable bed. Summing it up: Ick! Our clothing even smelled musty after we returned home after our vacation.
When we arrived and saw the condition of this property we tried to find a hotel to accommodate our party. Unfortunately we could not find such a hotel, and we had to stay at this awful place.

We were told that the pool was heated by two different agents. It was not. After the vacation I was told that they did not have any heated pools. Perhaps the agents need to be better informed or trained to be truthful.
There were many millipedes in the lower bedroom which resulted in my vacuuming immediately (I was embarrassed for the rest of our guests to even see such a sight!). The millipedes returned the next day, so we had to abandon use of the lower level. The roof leaked and they sent someone for repairs. I called and stated complaints with two property managers. They did not follow up on promises to get back with me about my concerns. Very disappointing. -

We had a couple of issues that we felt needed addressed and the agency was quick to respond, friendly in their demeanor and professional in their work.
However, their were many issues, most of which were cleanliness or readiness that were far below the standard we expected for the price. Many items we anticipated using were not in working condition. Considering the house slept 12, there was not comfortable seating for 12 in any area and no comfortable flooring to sit/sleep/play on. -

The stay was unbelievable. We came up right after one of the snow storms of the year and the view was beauitful. Our friends and are already planning a trip for next year, probably at the same place. Everything about booking it was a breeze and the weekend wsa very very memorable.
The only things that I was simply "satisfied" with was the the length of the driveway (about 1/2 mile) and the fact we couldn't get our cars up due to snow. The seating wasn't always the most comfortable but it's not something that would drive me away.Response from Carolina Mornings - 03/10/2011

From the glorious, jaw dropping view to the luxurious beds and down comforters, the incredible view from the lovely living room, quality furnishingsfireplace, well appointed kitchen and charming dining area - even to the excellent stereo - this place met and exceeded our expectations and made it hard to leave to go into asheville. We could have stayed in the house the entire time. We will be back!

My family; children and grandchildren had a wonderful Thanksgiving at the Great Escape!! My mother, who is 97 keeps talking about how much she enjoyed being there. The grands, of course, want to come back in the summer so that they can enjoy the pool. Overall the experience was great and the view was fantastic.
