      The Perfect Christmas

Left on 02/07/2013 for a stay in December 2012

We spent Christmas week at Fox Den and it could not have been more perfect. The cabin was so cozy and warm, and we even got some snow, which is a big deal for a couple of Floridians! We will definitely be back!

      Disappointing

Left on 09/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We arrived at the Fox Den cabin in the Wolf Laurel development with anticipation; a week later, we left disappointed. The cabin itself was fine, nice amenities such as ping pong table, dart board and foosball. The view on the porch, though very shady in the height of summer, was peaceful and lovely. But the condition of the cabin was unacceptable. The carpet (not ideal anyway, in a rental) was stained and dirty. There were cobwebs everywhere, the windows & screens were filthy, even the stovetop was grimy. The bedding smelled musty and the mattresses had an unclean odor. The only window in the master bedroom was broken and could not be opened, or repaired. (No fresh breezes or morning sounds!) Calls were made to Carolina Mornings (the rental agency) and though staff was sincere, they were slow on the upswing. It took 3 days and a lot of phone calls to have the place cleaned and we had to insist that the carpet be shampooed (by saying we'd find someone and bill CM).

We looked at other rentals in the area, and they were much nicer and much cheaper. The amenities in Wolf Laurel were good, except the pool was closed for repairs and the alternate was too far away to walk to or get to easily (up a very steep mountain).

We love the NC mountains and it was our 5th summer vacationing in the asheville area, but our last using Carolina Mornings! They refunded our $85 pet fee and gave us $75 to use on future rentals, but it won't be utilized. The cabin should never have been rented in the condition it was in, and Carolina Mornings' customer service left a lot to be desired.

      Fantastic

Left on 07/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Our family enjoyed the trip to Fox Den. I was starting a new job, week 1, which resulted in a trip to asheville for the week, and the family came along. It marked the end of a bad journey, and the start of a good one. The pivotal juncture was enhanced by the serenity of the cabin and the magnificent splendor of the surroundings.

A relaxing and comfortable week in the woods.

Left on 01/19/2012 for a stay in July 2011

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Fox Den for four days last summer for our wedding anniversary. The accommodations were excellent and we enjoyed swimming in the pool and taking hikes on the appalachian Trail. The cabin was big enough to really spread out, and included everything we needed to have a great four days away from home.

      Great Value!

Left on 02/19/2011 for a stay in October 2010

We enjoyed staying at Fox Den, and it was very economical as opposed to comparable area hotels for the two rooms we would have had to book. The cabin offered us more privacy than a hotel and we love having a full kitchen when we travel. We hiked up to the appalachian trail and enjoyed the fall foliage, which we don't get to experience at home in Florida. We would like to return in the summer to take advantage of the river activities we passed.

      What we liked least:
      * The extreme remoteness of the area. Without even a convenience store, were too far from the basic necessities. For example, the cabin was stocked with only one roll of toilet paper. When we ran out, it was a 30 minute drive to get another roll, and that was from a gas station.
      * The cabin was tiny. It has 3 bedrooms, but access to the loft bedroom was by ladder. It was a good value for the money, but you do sacrifice some comfort.

      Vacation with my Brother

Left on 11/12/2010 for a stay in September 2010

      - The cabin smelled like a mildewy lake house as opposed to a log cabin - hopefully that can be fixed. This was probably my biggest complaint, as that log cabin smell is one of my favorite things about going to the mountains.

      - The lighing on the front porch was very poor (only one light and it was on the edge of the porch as opposed to the middle) and it was at the level of the porch floor, not overhead. This could also be fixed.

      - The fire place was great.

Thank you for your feedback and we have taken measures to extinguish the mildew-like smell. All lighting is important and having adequate exterior lights is crucial and are rectifying this issue as well. I hope you enjoyed the gorgeous mountain views and the amenities at Wolf Laurel Resort. Great three days skiing at Wolf Laurel, Mars Hill, NC

Left on 01/28/2010 for a stay in December 2009

House and location were perfect for my family of 4 during this late December getaway to play in the snow -- our Christmas gift to our boys, 8 and 12. Fox Den is private and cozy but has a great direct view over the next mountain where the Wolf Laurel ski resort lay and where we spent most all our waking hours. Carolina Mornings, property management, were easy to deal with and Fox Den delivered everything we expected and wanted. We did wish for some alternate lighting -- the flourescent bulbs were very harsh for the dining, living, and kitchen areas -- but we do appreciate the need to minimize the kilowatts.

      Just what the doctor ordered

Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in August 2009

We spent three relaxing days at Fox Den in early August 2009. The home was
clean and ready when we arrived and the directions for getting there were
clear and easy to follow. Fox Den is nestled up in the tall pines which was a
welcome relief from the hot Texas summer. The four of us were very
comfortable with Fox Den's rustic furnishings - my daughter especially
enjoyed the bed in the loft and the dartboard! We didn't get a chance to try
the Wolfe Laurel pool - we spent our limited time in Asheville and on the
nearby Appalachian Trail - but it looked inviting; perhaps if it had been open
past 7pm we could have enjoyed a quick dip.

      Fox Den

Left on 08/21/2009 for a stay in July 2009

Overall, we had a great weekend at Fox Den. The house has a beautiful porch, comfortable furniture, a full kitchen and all the appliances you'd need.

      Tips for a successful visit:
      1) Drivers of sedans or other small passenger cars -- be advised that the driveway has a steep grade and may scratch or dent trim. The bumper of our Matrix was a casualty, no matter how slow or carefully we descended.

      2) Fox Den is far from most restaurants. The general store is your only option, so prepare in advance to cook in or eat while in Asheville or other.

      Maybe good for dog owners

Left on 08/13/2009 for a stay in July 2009

The area outside of the house was beautiful, however, the house smelled like dogs. I guess I should have expected that knowing it was "pet friendly." Not much sunlight coming in so it was a little dark & dreary, and cold.
We also did not appreciate a phone call at 8 or 9am (the first morning we were there) from the property manager telling us a dryer repair man needed to come out to fix the dryer that day. Ugh, not what we wanted to deal with after arriving late the night before (and hoping to sleep in).

Rustic cabin: great for kids and pets!

Left on 04/17/2008 for a stay in March 2008

We are the proud owners of the Fox Den Cabin. I think the reason we get such a great response from our guests is that we use the cabin ourselves throughout the year on vacation just like our guests! And just like our guests, we want a clean, safe, fun place where Mom and Dad can relax, the kids can play inside and out, and Rover can mark his territory. Ha! Every time we go, we enjoy the same things that our guests can: the great hikes, 'smores by the fireplace, the great views, and some solace in the quiet woods! And even though I've been to the local General Store a hundred times, I always look forward to going back!
