I reserved a room "303" 2 months in advance for 4th of july and had confirmation email from property. I had a reservation at another hotel but cancelled because of this hotels location. I specifically selected this room because of its location, view that was to be overlooking main street, and was only room with king bed. I called the night before our arrival only to learn that they had moved me to a room 210 with 2 double beds on opposite side of building and didn't bother asking or telling me, then moved me to room 202. I then spent the remainder of that day and next morning fighting with hotel. Turns out, the property isn't a hotel, it's a timeshare and each room is owned by different people and they are the ones who decorate the rooms which is why the room decor is so inconsistent.
When we arrived we had to carry our bags down 2 flights of stairs and then find a parking place 1/2 mile fom the hotel because they dont have parking, if you park on the wrong street you could be ticketed or towed. They ended up putting us in a room 310, the room. looked like it was decorated by a teenage girl with dementia. The whole experience was disappointing and we left after 2 nights when we were able to find another hotel. Aspen is beautiful, great vacation place but avoid "The Independence Square", if nothing else is available buy a tent. Read more
Response from Frias Properties of Aspen - 10/14/2013
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Independence Square. We are sorry your stay was not satisfactory and are grateful that you took the time to let us know of your challenges.
At Frias Properties, we make every effort to reserve the room that was chosen at the time of booking. However, situations beyond our control mandate room moves on occasion. Although it is rare, it is unfortunate that this was your experience.
The Independence Square hotel is not a timeshare or fractional ownership property. The units are individually owned and each owner decides how to decorate their room. We have a rating system of standard, deluxe and premier but the décor is not standardized.
Parking in downtown Aspen is metered parking only. We provide passes to our all of our guests just outside the downtown “core” – two blocks and beyond. During the summer months – especially during holidays and special events – the distance to find a parking spot can reach beyond the two-block perimeter.
Again, thank you for letting us know of your challenges. We strive for excellence in customer service and satisfaction and value every comment we receive. One of our management staff will be calling to attend to your recent stay on a personal level.
This is the most convenient place to stay in aspen!

We are repeat visitors to the Indy as nothing beats the location. Ruby Park is 50 feet away, the aspen Mountain gondola is only a block away, City Market is less than 3 blocks from the hotel, and shops, restaurants, etc. are right outside the door. The room is comfortable, and includes a microwave and mini refrigerator. We did not use the hot tub. The continental breakfast made it easy to get going each morning, although we wish it had started at 7 instead of 7:30 a.m. so we could catch an earlier ski bus. We really enjoyed the wine & cheese apres ski as many guests attend and compare notes on the skiing. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only down side is noise. The in town location means it's impossible to block delivery and people noise, so bring earplugs. It works for us! We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Loved the location. Didn't initially like that we had to check in at a different location, but in the end it was fine. Parked far away!
