      Fantastic!

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We loved our stay at Independence Square. The location couldn't have been better, the room was remodeled and wonderful, and the bathroom was very cool. Thanks so much!

I love the Independence Hotel. Have been staying there for 30 years doing business with local galleries. Once, I had what I would call a paranormal experience. I'm not into hocus pokus but I was either dreaming or experiencing something unlike any dream I've ever had. There were miners sitting around a wooden table with canvas bags and it was freezing in the room. That was at least 15 years ago but I will never forget it! Every visit that I have is the consummate aspen experience!

An OK Stay at the Independence Square Hotel

Left on 10/13/2010 for a stay in October 2010

My wife and I spent a Saturday night at this hotel for free, because I had won the night's lodging in a charity raffle. At this price it's hard to complain, but this building has issues that would cause me not to return if I were paying for a room here.

      1. The location is great: right in the heart of downtown aspen, 1/2 block from the transit center and a short walk to everything else. However, the lack of a parking facility would be an inconvenience during the busier, more crowded seasons.

      2. This is an old building, and its renovation into a hotel-style lodging appears not to have been done thoroughly or thoughtfully.

-- The awkward floor layout of our room was probably the result of an effort to carve the building into the greatest number of units. The amount of really usable floor space makes this small room feel even smaller.

-- We couldn't get the heating system to work. The desk clerk told us that this was a chronic problem, and she provided us with a space heater that warmed the room adequately. However, the building's common areas were extremely cold when we walked to and from the elevator.

      3. Our room's bathroom is quite modern, but the system of controls for its shower system is rather complicated for a unit that sees a constant stream of first-time users. Its three sources of water spray and a non-obvious temperature control knob really requires a set of printed instructions to help guests avoid being showered while they are trying to figure out how the whole thing works.

On balance, despite its excellent location, I would not recommend this unit, either as a good travel experience or as a reasonable value for your money.

      Happy people but not helpful

Left on 09/29/2010 for a stay in September 2010

The service was average, instructions on parking was rushed and unclear, it took us one hour to find where to park, the room was very lovely, however we did not have any glasses to drink from, when I call the front desk the lady told me to come down to get them, I was already in my night wear and did not want to redress, my husband found one champage glass (just one) and use it to take his meds. We were also told the fridge was full and we would be charge for any thing we used, the fridge was empty. We were upset to learn there was a hot tub on the roof because we could have watched the fireworks from there.
The location was great, the breakfast was very nice.

      Love July 4th In aspen!

Left on 07/29/2010 for a stay in July 2010

Perfect location for 4th July! Had a great time - used to live in aspen so it felt great to be back.

The only issue we had was check-in after hours. It was communicated to us the key would be at Ind Sq but instead we had to go down to Frias late at night, when we would have rather been at the event at Belly Up that we had purchased tickets for, and was well underway by the time we received our key and checked in.
