The staff did the best they could.Zach from the front desk was excellent.The first very serious problem is that there is no parking for guests.This is absurd.For 220 a night there should be parking.I had to carry over 150 pounds of skis and equiptment over 2 blocks each day .
The last day of my stay was Sunday and if you read the signs out front it looks like you can park there on Sunday.I got up to find my car towed and it was only parked out front for 3 hours.
The rooms are nice but cramed.
The roof top patio is excellent.

The Independence Square is a historic building, built in 1889. The rooms are not small, but certainly not as large as many of the newer hotels being built in modern times.
The hotel is located in downtown Aspen and does not offer on-site parking. The City of Aspen does not allow overnight parking in downtown Aspen and, during the day, only metered parking is available.
We provide our guests with parking permits in Zone A or Zone B, which is located a minimum of 1.5 blocks away. Once our guests are checked in, they are provided with ski lockers inside the hotel. Our hope is that this service will eliminate having to carry your skis to and from your vehicle. The bus station - providing service to Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk - is located directly across the street and Aspen Mountain is one block away.
