Left on 01/16/2013 for a stay in February 2012
I stayed in the athens apartment on a winter getaway in February. The apartment was beautiful, luxurious, with everything I could ask for - from adapters to wine and ouzo! Carole was so helpful in arranging everything and I really loved the gift basket and all of the helpful guidance, very neatly organized, that came with the apartment. The location was great - walking distance to everything with a real neighborhood feel to it. The kitchen was beautful and great to cook in and at night I sat on the balcony watching the busy streets below ... so relaxing! I am so glad I found this ... Carole made everything so easy. I am planning a family trip next summer.

This apartment was well centered as we could walk almost anywhere. The apartment was very clean and well appointed with all the necessities and then some! Carole has outdone herself with helps and recommendations -and she took care of all the drivers and tours. It was like our very own concierge in Greece!
Thank you Carole for your hospitality! -

I have stayed in the penthouse for two weeks, and as a constant traveller I should admit - I have never seen any apartment, which would be more cozy and welcoming as the on in Pagrati. A beautiful terrace, nicely designed rooms and the area, full of cafes and restaurants, malls and close to the metro (Evangelismos) and walking distance from Syntagma (the downtown). I would strongly recommend this place for staying and enjoying this beautiful city. P.S. if you are lucky enough to catch the landlords in athens - you will enjoy the warm and hospitable company of theirs, which will leave the smile on your face for a long time.

Extremely well appointed apartment that accomodated 2 couples very comfortably. Location was central to many attractions and attainable by walking. Carole was most helpful and accomodating during air traffic controller strike which delayed our departure. Would recommend without hesitation.

I've booked repeatedly with Greek Vacation Rentals and I'm never disappointed. The apartments are very attractive & comfortable. The apartments have everything a traveler for business or pleasure might need. The surrounding neighborhood is the athens equivalent to Lincoln Park in Chicago or the Upper West Side in Manhattan. Walk out your door you're in modern athens and short walk or taxi ride your in ancient Greece! Back to the apartment and post the whole experience to Facebook. I've spent many a happy hour drinking a glass of wine on the terrace.

We loved this huge, modern, and comfortable apartment. In the heart of real (i.e., not touristy although hopping) neighborhood, but easy walking or public transpiration to all the tourist spots. Thanks to the amazing amount of local inside information provided by Carole fitting in like a local was easy. And learning how to prepare a proper ouzo was a skill I will cherish forever.

Left on 11/15/2011 for a stay in October 2011
This apt is excellent and the hosts are tops, but it is not close to everything. It is a 1/2 hr walk min to most things we wanted to see.
Location is the only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star apt. -

May 3-7, 2011 an absolutely wonderful experience. Three bedrooms, 3 baths, living room, eat-in kitchen, computers, telephones (and the accompanying service); on & on & on. Everything in the description was exactly as described. What wasn't listed was the complete set of instructions, directions and loving care that accompanied our visit. There is no way to describe the care that Carole and Basil extended to us - 3 young at heart couples. The topper was asking, "What is the extra key for?" and finding ourselves on the roof one night gazing at an unobstructed view of the acropolis!
This is a review so now to the basics. The beds are very comfortable. The bathrooms were spotless and the shower, tub, sinks, toilets all worked perfectly. Towels, linens and a welcome "goody" basket were waiting. The location is accessible to restaurants, sights, and transportation. I do recommend this vacation apartment. The only drawback was that we had to leave. This is a private apartment be prepared for not having the services of a hotel. It is not what we wanted anyhow. -

We had a very nice time in athens, and the athens First Penthouse was a great place to stay. There were 6 in our group with plenty of room for us all. The welcome basket and other amenities made it much better than a hotel. It was obvious that a lot of effort went into making our stay enjoyable. We appreciated it very much and want to visit athens again soon.

Left on 01/13/2011 for a stay in October 2010
The apartment provided enough space for 2 pre-teens, 2 middle age and 2 seniors. Would definitely not have 8 persons. Bedrooms adequate size with plenty of storage space. Kitchen exceptionally equipped the only thing we would add would be a proper cheese knife! :) We enjoyed the balcony/terrace the most. We ate breakfast every morning and all of our at home meals outside. Did not like the roof top area. Local eats were just fab. Follow the recommendations. be aware that renting a car bigger than a mini means parking in a fee pay carpark. There is no parking on the street. We were still grateful that we had the car to explore the outskirts on our own. We drove to Nafplio and Epidaurus; Delphi and temple of Poseidon. Great to go at our pace. We saw many a tour group being prodded along. One guide even told a group that they didnt have time to take photographs! Not our idea of enjoyment. We also used the hop-on hop-off bus. great way to get around and get your bearings. Overall, Carole was a great host - nothing too much trouble. Location convenient if you do not mind not being in the centre. Good for us with children and grandparents as the living spaces allowed us to socialise. Would recommend.

We had a family holiday in Greece the first time, we spent 10 days in the same apartment, four of us had a real wonderful time in athens despite some hiccups at the airport when arrived. Luckily we got the driver, Yanni, recommanded by Carol, was efficient. He also drove us for 3 days to different places, he is a good driver. Heaps of information given by Carol made our trips in the city easier.
We managed to explore the city, walked many hours everyday, ate like the locals, and it was very good to go back to the apartment after every tiring day. We will come back to this lovely city, lovely people and lovely apartment one day! -

This is a very nice place to stay while visiting athens. The neighborhood is within 15-30 minutes walking distance of all the major tourist sites and the metro. Carole emailed a whole packet of info before we left home and we appreciated all of the tips and advice. The apartment is very well equipped with anything you might need and is very clean and comfortable. We loved the neighborhood (Pagrati) and found lots of great places to eat. Don't miss the O Kostas restaurant recommended by Carole. Very glad we stayed here instead of a hotel.

Left on 10/20/2010 for a stay in October 2010
When you rent this apartment you will find you are unlocking a door not only to a restful haven that is equipped to fill your every need...but also to Carol and Basil's world! And, lucky you, they will share it with you. Follow their gentle guidance and spot-on advice and you will be immersed in the real athens that pulses behind the guide-book athens that most tourists settle for.
Take advantage of the wonderful services of Yannis, of Costas, eat at as many of the recommended restaurants as you can manage, and everywhere you go say "Carol and Basil sent us" -- you will be given an extra warm welcome.
Then, at the end of your stay, like us, you'll count your blessings -- knowing you have enjoyed a very special experience. -

This apartment was well-located just behind the National Gardens so exploring the city centre was relatively easy except for the lack of athenian sidewalks which made taking the pram an interesting experience. The neighbourhood was surprisingly friendly (for athens!) and my daughters got kissed by many grandmothers walking by!!!
Fabulous amenities in Carole's apartment and Basil was just at the end of the telephone.
I would recommend staying there if you need a comfortable home that gives you flexibility. -

We visited athens to celebrate our son's 10th birthday and were within easy reach of all the places he wanted to see. As a family with 3 children, youngest 4 years old, it was wonderful to be able to stay in such a great apartment with easy access to everything we wanted and needed without the formality and constraint of staying in a hotel - this is always our preferred choice and this apartment was really great.

Our family of six has been vacationing in rental homes for over four years now. This experience was the all time favorite of all of us. The other places usually sent an email or two before arrival. Carole called us several times before the trip as well as during the stay to make sure everything was alright. The place was immaculate and well laid out. Plenty of bed space for the kids and adults. The gyro place down the street was our frequent dining spot. The fried potatoes are the best. We were able to walk most places without a need for a taxi. We visited the Acropolis on two occasions as well as the Parliment. Carole helped arrange two separate day trips; one to Delphi and another to Corinth. Nicholas was very professional as well as helpful and friendy. Make sure you try a bag of greek oranges and some local wine, there is nothing like it here in US. Everything was wonderful. Despite not knowing the language we able to get along because everyone there knows English. The least favorite part of the trip was having to leave. I wish we had explored south of Athens as well as visited the port and taken a boat to one of the nearby islands. Overall, Athens is an awesome experience.

Athens First is a great apartment. The 2 levels allowed lots of room for us to spread out and yet share common areas (We were traveling with teenagers). Carole's advice on the shops in the area was valuable for our daily gyro and baklava fix. Carole was also able to tell us about the local Easter traditions and activities so that we could have a bird's eye view from the apartment building.

What an amazing apartment. We traveled in August and stayed for 2 weeks with a 3 year-old and an 80 year-old -- we needed all the comforts and we got them! It was spotless, the a/c worked when and how we needed it to, everything was supplied that we could ever need in the kitchen (and everywhere else), the bedrooms were comfortable and easy to sleep in. It was an all around fantastic place to stay. They represented their home EXACTLY as it was. The veranda was a highlight. We ate meals and practiced music while we were out there...and drank a lot of coffee! We've recommended it to everyone we know. Thank you Carole and Basil.

Because of our experience at First Athens, we were able to see Athens from a very local perspective. The local information that we recieved up front took most of the guesswork out of being in a strange city for the first time. We knew where the local market, liquor store, metro station, etc. were before we got there. It was a most pleasureable experience, and we would not hesitate to reccomend it to anyone.
The apartment was also very well equipped for all of our needs, and we were able to return "home" after touring and just relax! -

Left on 11/22/2009 for a stay in August 2009
We had the best time staying in Carole & Basil's "Acropolis View - Beta" and "Athens First" apartments during our recent trip to Greece! This was our first time traveling to Europe w/ our four children (14, 12, 9 & 7) and father-in-law (who was born in Greece, but hadn't returned in 63 years). The apartments were perfect in every way --spacious, nicely furnished, & updated w/ all the creature comforts necessary for a "home away from home." The location was ideal, too. We felt like tourists by day and locals by night b/c we visited attractions during the day and then had a relaxing dinner at a local taverna near the apartments. Carole's welcome package and recommendations were extremely helpful, and really made our trip so much more relaxing for us. We would highly recommend any of Carole's Athens apartments, and plan to contact her the next time we visit Greece (which our children hope is every year!). Thank you so much, Carole -- You're the BEST!!

In May of 2008, we stayed at this fantastic home in Athens. It was myself and two children, ages 19 and 21,(but even if they had been younger it wouldn't have mattered). I have rented vacations units in other parts of the world before, but never had I had anyone have as much information i.e., where to shop, where to walk, where to eat. etc.,etc., as Carole had given us. We loved the neighborhood, and loved having drinks on the rooftop every night where we could look at the Acropolie. We stayed here for three weeks, and I was sad to leave. I would not hesitate to call Carole and stay here again. Do yourself and family a favor and make sure you stay at this wonderful unit.

Left on 06/05/2009 for a stay in January 2009
I was planning a five-week stay in Athens and chanced upon this apartment. I couldn't have been more fortunate. It has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable, longer-term stay (in my case five weeks). From the moment I arrived I was agreeably surprised to find that the apartment was even better than I had assumed from the photographs. There was a generous supply of coffee, biscuits, bread, and other items making it unnecessary to rush out immediately for emergency shopping. The apartment is located in a very quiet street with no through traffic, yet in an bustling residential area abounding in shops, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. I walked every day from the apartment to the centre of Athens, but could have taken the metro or any of the many buses or trolleybuses. The copious and detailed information provided by the owner will prove invaluable to anyone who is a stranger to Athens. The heating, hot water, cooking facilities, washing machine, television, computer, telephone, all worked perfectly, and the standard of finish, furnishing and general upkeep of the apartment can only be described as magnificent. This apartment must be one of the best of its kind available for rent in Athens in terms of both price and quality, and I have absoutely no hesitation in strongly recommending it to the discerning traveller.
