Description from the owner

(License #114332) This urban retreat is nary a mile from downtown Austin and tucked away in one of Austin's oldest neighborhoods. You're close enough to walk about town or to SoCo if you'd like. The studio apartment is both modern and has a bit of old world charm at the same time since the property is about 70 years old. For the money it's much better than a similarly-priced hotel room anywhere in Austin. There's plenty of room, a private patio in the back and top-quality linens to make your stay a comfortable one.

This large, contemporary studio apartment just south of the river is urban living at its best. This newly-constructed home...Read more

If you're looking to avoid the hotel route like we were and really just wanted to feel like you're staying at home or a relative's place this is it. Well appointed, comfy, superb location to dining and attractions. Slept well and it was quiet.

      Home away from home

Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013

My wife and I had a wonderful stay in austin. We very much enjoyed the city which was easily accessible on foot or by bus from the apartment. We were also able to pick up the lovely (and busy!) running path that goes all around the river just outside the accommodation.

The apartment was a superb base and a relaxing place to come back to. It was kitted out with all that we could need for cooking and more: there was an impressive level of detail in the apartment, to suit any traveller's need! Even beach towels and sunscreen were provided, and many other little details that made this a very pleasant stay.

We really liked the modern decor and high ceiling in the apartment, as well as a lovely little patio.

Our hosts were very friendly yet unintrusive, and they made sure that we got everything we needed.

      Highly recommended.

      Riverside Gem just that!

Left on 02/16/2012 for a stay in October 2011

We spent 10 days at the Riverside Gem in Octber 2011. My wife and I are in our mid 50's and are in the music business. When we first arrived we were somewhat concerned that we were just a block off the freeway and that we had to walk through the owners back yard and patio to access the suite.
Our concerns turned out to be non issues. Todd and amy were very accomodating in letting us use their driveway for loading and unloading our vehicle and as it turned out there was nearly no traffic noise as the outdoor space attached to our suite was very private and quiet (for being in the heart of a city!)
Additionally, the suite itelf was very well appointed, with everything required for an enjoyable stay...all the appliances worked well; there was ample storage and the internet access was good.
The space was comfortable and the patio private. (we even had friends over a couple of times and entertained on our little patio)
Todd and amy were great hosts, helping out where needed and giving us our space when that was required. The Gem was easy walking distance (about a mile) from South Congress shops and clubs, and the walk through neighborhood to get there was a very pleasant one.
We travel 14 weeks out of the year, and get to austin at least 3 times a year. Riverside Gem was as good as it gets for us and we plan to stay there again in the future.

      Great Time in austin

Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in January 2012

Great location and friendly renters. Although the street is busy, the studio is located in the back of the property so it is very private and quiet. You can walk anywhere which is what we enjoyed. Austin is very hip and fun. We found enough to do for the whole week. If we ever return to austin, this is our first call.

Riverside Gem is a peaceful, well-maintained studio. It's located in Travis Heights off South Congress, ideally situated for anyone needing to work or study downtown. The owners are available, yet unobtrusive. Nothing was too much trouble in the run-up to my arrival; Todd even provided valuable advice on using a European mobile abroad! Coffee beans, cream and drinking water were waiting in the fridge, and the place was spotlessly clean. I highly recommend this property.

Comfortable, safe, clean haven, friendly hosts

Left on 09/30/2011 for a stay in May 2010

This studio was a wonderful haven for my business/leisure trip to austin. It is near enough to town to walk if you are normally a walker/runner but would require transportation if not. The home feels very safe as it is located behind the owner's home, who by the way, are very lovely people. My flight was grounded at a different airport due to airport closings and I got in at 1:00 a.m. in the morning. I kept in touch with the hosts several times. They were kind enough to greet me with the keys at such a late hour and had placed some cheese, crackers, and fruit in the studio along with a nightcap knowing what a frustrating trip I had and knowing I had not had a chance to eat from early morning. It was spacious for me but would be comfortable for a couple with one child. I loved the little private deck in the back. It was less than half the rate of the hotel venue where I was attending the conference with much more to offer. The kitchen and bathroom were stocked and it was clean and inviting.

"Riverside Gem" is just that and more!

Left on 06/03/2011 for a stay in May 2011

This wonderful home away from home, has all the amenities and none of the worries. Nestled in a quiet neighbourhood, our hosts were the perfect couple if you needed anything and incognito if you didn't. The Gem has everything required of living comfortably for your entire stay (10 days in our case); regardless of the length. Our bags were lost and amy and Todd waited and while the airline (we'll never fly Delta again), delivered them. They received them, left them at the front door of the studio,(along with a case of water).

We woke and enjoyed freshly ground beans of Maya Rutu coffee (best we've ever tasted), compliments of our hosts as well. Quiet patio at the back, enabled us to sit and reflect on all the wonders austin has to offer. I recommend this location to anyone if "magic" is what your looking for!

Excellent choice if you are wanting to be near downtown austin. Even though close to I-35, traffic is not heard. Be ready to climb several steps to get to the apartment. Once you arrive, the place is spotless, well appointed and private. The owners are very easy going and considerate. We appreciate giving our lodging money to individuals vs corporate hotel chains. Studio Gem can't be beat!

I recently stayed at this fabulous studio for three weeks while working in austin and it was perfect. Todd, Amy and their gorgeous girls are fantastic hosts who are considerate, kind, so helpful, and respectful. The studio itself was fresh and clean and contained everything that I needed to make my three week stay comfortable. It was a pleasure to come "home" each day to my private little abode. Riverside Gem is so conveniently located with Downtown just a short taxi ride away. And if you feel like a good stroll, head down to South Congress avenue. I loved my stay in austin and when I return I will definitely stay here again. Enjoy, I certainly did.

Ideal for going downtown or SoCo by bus or long walk. Studio was much better than a hotel room. It was bigger with a full kitchen and a patio, and a lot of extras. Very comfortable bed to snugle in.

      A True Gem in austin

Left on 09/20/2010 for a stay in August 2010

This is an excellent rental in a great location. Very close to South Congress, I-35 and Downtown. We enjoyed the lovely neighborhood for jogging in the morning, as well as the proximity to the city parks. This studio has nice appliances for cooking and was more than enough room for the two of us visiting. The owners did a a great job renovating and keeping this property well maintained. We were also welcomed with a wealth of information from the owners, on things to do in austin. This is a great city and you will feel at home when you stay at this gem!
We highly recommend staying here, and hope to come back!

Todd and amy are wonderful hosts and full of great information about this great city! My friend and I only had two nights to spend in austin, but they directed us to the cream of the crop from a local point of view, and helped us to avoid wasting our time! Their apartment is comfortable and charming, with a great private patio to spend your morning sipping coffee on! The location is just outside of everywhere you need to get to! I would definitely go back to austin, and back to Todd & Amy's place! I hope to have a lot more time next time.

      Perfect austin Vacation!

Left on 08/06/2010 for a stay in July 2010

My husband and I stayed at this adorable studio for two weeks in July...and loved every minute of it. The location was very central, and with the studio tucked behind the house, it was very quiet. We spent most of our time on South Congress and it was just a quick drive through a beautiful neighborhood to get in the back way. For what I researched, the studio is one of the best values in austin -- it was impeccably stocked, incredibly clean and beautifully decorated. The back patio was awesome...a perfect secluded spot surrounded by tall bamboo -- all of the gardens were amazing. Todd and amy were super helpful and attentive, giving us many suggestions for things to do and local flair to check out. The off-street parking initially worried me, but this is one of the nicest neighborhoods in town and we felt very safe with our rental car on the street.

As for austin as a vacation destination, we could not say enough about it...many of our friends in Boston said, what are you going to do there for two weeks??? Honestly, we didn't want to leave! Between the food (amazing options...I think I could eat a Torchy taco every day of my life), the music scene, the overall vibe (I couldn't believe how Green it was...not what I was expecting for Texas), the and the golf (Falconhead and Teravista were our favs!)...it was a perfect, relaxing get away. Renting such a charming, warm and modern studio was the perfect icing on the cake. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

      Darling, pristine & updated accommodations!

Left on 07/21/2010 for a stay in July 2010

We had a wonderful weekend in austin (as always)! Todd and amy's neighborhood (Travis Heights) is so convenient to everything we love in S. Austin; Perla's, Homeslice, live music at Guerro's (the best Mexican in town), Joe's Coffee. We really enjoyed biking from the house to all the local SoCo taco joints; our stay solidifed our desire to live in the city! The house was so cool and refreshing in the hot austin heat. Todd & Amy's hospitality was infectious; and, even Lightner and Kaegan added their sweet faces to the mix!
Thank you so much for everything!
