This house actually shares a lot with another vacation rental home (#382831) and they can be rented together if you have a larger group. The pictures really speak for themselves. First I would like to say how absolutely wonderful is it to deal with Lauren. She is a true gem. My inquiry was met with a response within literally 5 minutes. Since I have had the pleasure of dealing with Lauren from vacation cake before, she was able to pull up my records and have my confirmation back to me in a matter of a few minutes. 5 gold stars for Lauren!
Pulling up to Zilker cottage you find a long driveway to accompany more than one car, in case your party drives in multiple vehicles. This review is from 2 people and 1 new car, which parking off street is a must for me.
Heading into the cottage you will find a very vibrant, bright and cozy atmosphere. I love natural light and this place delivers! The kitchen is large and very well equipped with some very nice appliances, if you choose to cook, which we did take advantage of, after all Whole Foods is down the street. There is a cute dining area if needed. The living room is great, with a u-shape, built in sofa, that is truly great and comfortable to kick back, relax and watch a huge flat screen TV or listen to music coming from the surround sound system.
Outside is a nice deck with ample seating and very nice grill to cook steaks. Also there are outside speakers to help add to the relaxing ambience.
Back inside is one bath and a full size washer and dryer. There are 2 bedrooms separated from each other for privacy. This is where I am deducting 1 star off Zilker cottage, the pillows are extremely flat and it feels like your head is resting on folded laundry. But since I fell in love with the place, I was able to forgive and remember to bring my own pillows next time, in case this item has not been updated.
There are several eating, hanging out, drinking, places within walking distance, which only enhances the laid back austin experience. Would I return here? Yes,in a heartbeat.

I'm so glad you had a good birthday weekend and enjoyed Zilker Cottage. I only wish you had told me about the need for a pillow upgrade during your stay. That is exactly the kind of thing we can take care of quickly and easily. We're always happy to remedy an issue that a guest encounters at any of our properties, if it's within our power to do so. I'll go get replacement pillows this afternoon.

Zilker Cottage is close to shops and restaurants, to Barton Springs and a quick drive to South Congress or downtown. The cottage's layout centres around a large kitchen. There was no street noise although we were very close to amenities like Magnolia Pizza just steps away. Jay and Lauren's instructions made accessing the cottage simple a piece of (vacation) cake!

We had such a great time in the Zilker cottage. The home was clean and well stocked, great location, comfortable for the whole family to relax and enjoy our time together. We loved the neighborhood, and spent time in the back yard as well as taking walks - stores are close by, yet there is the feel of a neighborhood. We loved the open format, the different seating areas, the fabulous kitchen, and the deck with the barbeque. Completing the rental process, checking in, clarifying while we were there, and checking out was the most simple of any homes we've rented. This was the first vacation house we've rented that didn't have something missing, broken, or not working! We loved austin, and if our travels take us back to austin, we will definitely rent from Vacation Cake again!

We rented the cottage for a girl's weekend and just loved it. It had the right amount of space, was comfortable and centrally located to all of austin's popular destinations. The house has everything you need for a night in or is the perfect launching pad for days of sightseeing. Check in/out instructions were clear and the rental process was smooth with no surprises.

We rented Zilker Cottage and the accompanying Sola lodge for all of our family for my son's wedding. Jay and Lauren were very good about accommodating us with an early arrival so we could be ready for wedding activities the night family arrived and providing handicap items for my elderly mother.
My family got to stay in Zilker Cottage and loved it. They loved its open concept and it light airy atmosphere, but especially the back patio. Having freshly ground coffee every morning was great along with plenty of nice clean white fluffy towels.
The location was great, as many people did not have cars, but could walk to restaurants and to downtown. We will definitely try to stay at Zilker cottage for future visits to austin.

the place was cool and in a great neighborhood within biking distance to all the cool spots, barton springs, south congress...the bedrooms have skylights in them so if you want to sleep late bring some eye shades! the place was quiet. The internet was down which sucked for us since we all had some work to do. Overall I would stay here again definitely.

The boys and I stayed for halloween weekend and the whole experience was great. Im a regular visitor to austin and was tired of paying for expensive hotels. The house was amazing, it easily holds up to 7 (wayyy better than a small hotel room) and the outside patio was a great chilling spot. Im definitely going to stay here every time I come to austin from now on. oh and the speaker system at the place was legit.

It was a breeze staying at Zilker Cottage. The place was clean and comfortable. We were able to all be together comfortably and the floor plan flows nicely between inside and outside. In addition its location is very central so getting around austin from Zilker was easy as well.
I was not sure the Zilker Cottage was going to work with for our group when I was researching but it turned out to be just perfect.

Our group enjoyed ourselves so much in both the Zilker House and the Solo Lounge House that we couldn't have asked for more. There is plenty of privacy in both houses with all the amenities you need, even wash soap in the showers. You are in walking distance of some great restaurants, check out Opa's and Maudie's. Downtown austin is easy to get in and out of. I had a great time there and the place was pretty well situated for our needs.

We rented the Zilker along with the connecting property, the SoLa Lodge, to accomodate our vacation party of 8. We loved the big windows and skylights!
The location is great - walking distance to some great restaurants and clubs (and stores for necessities). A short car trip gets you on Congress ave to downtown, with cool and funky shops and food trailers along the way. Also convenient to HEB and Whole Foods.
The back deck is a private and cozy gathering place for morning coffee or late night laughs,and the outdoor speakers from the sound system are an added bonus. -

My husband and I rented this place with friends for aCL. Jay and Lauren with Vacation Cake were very friendly and easily accessible all weekend long. We loved the house, it was very cozy, and had all the amenities we needed. The tree covered patio in the back yard was awesome! This place felt very tucked away and private and was in a great location for us. We will be back!!
