Description from the owner
Overlooking Lake Travis in the Hill Country, this one-of-a-kind architectural gem is off the beaten-path and at the center of things. As you approach over tree-covered hillsides which drop to the midnight-blue water below, youâll get more the impression that you are in the Greek Islands or southern Italy than in Texas.
Since the Tram House can only be reached by tram, youâll park at the base of the hill, climb into the tramcar, and let your horizon expand as you are carried 210 feet up the 55 degree hillside to the panoramic views of Lake Travis. Built in perfect alignment with the slope of the hill and standing at âtreetopâ hei...Read more

My husband and I chose to celebrate our wedding anniversary in austin, TX. The Tram House was a perfect location for this celebration. Riding a tram to access the house made it extra special. The house was perfect for many reasons: the house was a good size, the kitchen was equipped cookware and utensils, the bed was comfortable and we enjoyed the view of the lake from all three porches.
The privacy of the location and comfort of the living room was so relaxing, we had to make ourselves leave and visit austin. We knew we didnât come all the way to Texas to stay inside but there were a few days we didnât leave. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, either for a long weekend or a full weekâŠ.we highly recommend âThe Tram Houseâ.

Long story short. The day we were supposed to check in my wife's mother passed away. The owner was nice enough to let us reschedule our visit. This seemed fair. But we contacted the owner after our stay for our deposit back. He said we did not give 2 weeks notice when my wife's mother passed away so he was keeping the deposit. How we were supposed to do that since she passed on the day we were supposed to check in the first time. He made no mention of keeping the deposit when we rescheduled. He only told us the contract allowed him to keep the money since we did not give 2 weeks notice.

I can't believe that this traveler was not happy. he neglected to mention that we allowed them to come back to the Tram House and stay the full length of their original planned trip and only charge them the cost of the maid fee.
While it is true that we kept the one nights deposit, our house was vacant the days they had originally planned to stay and then occupied by them when they used up other days. Our hearts went out to them because of the death in the family and that is why we invited them back when we were under no obligation to do so. In the end, we lost money and now we have lost in this negative review.

What a weekend! My wife and I did nothing and it was everything we thought it would be. We spent more time on the deck than anywhere else. This place is all about staying in. The bedrooms are comfortable, bathrooms are beautiful and the view from anywhere is the house is breathtaking. Keith is always merely a phone call away. Check in was effortless, groceries are within 5-minutes of the house and there is an abundance of walking trails. We will be back.

We were after something different for a long-weekend break to celebrate my wife's birthday. Something contemporary, with great views, and a good amount of privacy. I looked at dozens of hotels and guest houses, but none of them stood out, until I found the Tram House. We love the Lake Travis area in general, and to find such a unique property, for more or less the same price as a high-end hotel room was very lucky.
The tram adds a novel slant to the whole experience, and you're often accompanied by the resident cat (Callie?), who was amazingly sweet, and changed my life-long 'meh' attitude towards cats! The house itself is very well furnished, with a great kitchen, living room and, of course, two amazing bathrooms. The best thing is the view, and there's a couple of balconies (plus a tiny one in-between the bathroom and master bedroom) to just chill out on.
It normally takes us a few days to unwind from the usual day-to-day grind, but here we were relaxed within a day. There's just nothing bad to say about The Tram House, it's an amazing house, with great attention to detail in the finishes. The location is great, just 5 mins from The Oasis complex (that's grown a lot in the 3 years that we were last there, we had a great meal at Soleil), and 30 mins from downtown austin. There's a Target and Starbucks 10 minutes away if you need a fix.
We'd return in a heartbeat.
