      Comfortable--- in lovely countryside

Left on 03/12/2012 for a stay in March 2012

Stayed in cottage for 6 days with extended family including 2 babies Very easy to access within charming village with helpful, friendly people with one exception .Contrary to other reviews we did not find the local restaurant / pub very hospitable Possibly because we had 2 young babies and did not reserve a table but as we arrived at 5 o'clock when it opened we were surprised that the manager had to chek that there was availability when the restaurant was clearly empty and no other customers arrived whilst we were eating!! It advertises a "steak night" on Thursday and when we asked about this he was very reluctant to give much information only to say that the steak provided was not that on the menu IIt would be only 8 ozs --- this satisfied us as we had eaten at lunchtime However when it arrived it was not a good steak and most was taken away to feed the dogs back at the cottage!!! Needless to say we did not return for the rest of our stay as it literally left us with a "bad taste" Not just with the food but with the person in charge of the restaurant who appeared to have a "personality by-pass" The young French lady who served us ,however, was charming !!!
The cottage itself was more than adequate although It was not luxurious The bedding and towels were a little tired but the kitchen was very well equipped there was always plenty of hot water and the heating could be controlled to suit your own needs.
We had to move the bed around in one of the rooms to make room for the cot but that was no problem There was nore than enough room in the master bedroom for the other cot.
One more point which I think may be relevant to families is that there are no medical facilities nearby We had the misfortune to have one of our babies fall ill at the weekend and the nearest medical centre was in Lancaster Royal Infirmary a&E; which was nearly an hour away We were treated very well there and discharged after a few hours but the drive through unlit winding roads with a sick baby was not an experience I would recommend !!
Despite this mishap I would return to the cottage It provided an excellent base for exploring the nearby villages which are so pretty and also access the southern lakes which are within easy access.

      wonderful location - great walks

Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in November 2009

There are loads of brilliant walks both from the door or from one of the neighbouring villages, all of which have very good lunch stops - cafes and pubs (good food, good beer, and usually a warm welcome). The local pub and shop are good too.

The cottage has ample kitchen, dining and lounge facilities/space for our group of 8 adults.

All in all, though, we find it a great place to walk and relax, the cottage comfortable and warm.

Good sized property with a few short-comings which could be easi

Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in March 2008

The cottage is attractive and I am sure in the summer the side garden is a nice place for alfresco dining. We had to call the owner on arrival at the cottage, who then drove round to meet us and show us around. Unfortunately we booked a particularly cold week in March and the first impression on entering the cottage was not favourable. The heating was not on, and had clearly not been on for some time. The cottage felt very cold. As we rented in March we would've expected it to feel a little more welcoming. It took a few hours to take the chill off. The cottage is of good proportions. The kitchen is well stocked and the property clean. The bedrooms are comfortable and the bathroom is a good size with seperate shower cubicle being most welcome. Immediately behind the cottage a row of mews style cottages have been built so the cottage no longer overlooks fields. The village is rather nice and in a good location for touring. Sadly the food in the village pub was poor on the day we visited for a special birthday meal. Hopefully it was the chef's day off but we didn't risk another meal.
