What Past Guests Are Saying
Loved the House, The rental agency is a nightmare.
The House itself is fun. Parking anywhere near the house is not. The house is clean, interestingly decorated and has a nice flow for a large group.
The house's management is another story. After checkout, we realized that we had forgotten a few items. I called back to the agency, they said they would check. ( We had moved to anotherStayCharlottesville property around the corner because the Graves house could not accommodate our entire stay) I called again, and Travis said that they checked and nothing was found. Since I was I was in the neighborhood I asked if I could pop back into the house, and just look around in case my iPod had fallen behind something, or I had left my jeans in the dryer. Travis gave me permission and the code. I found my daughters clothes folded neatly and placed in the bedroom wall niche, I also found my sons stilts, but my iPod and jeans were not there. Obviosly, no one had checked for them, or the other items would have been found.
This was the first house on a very longterm stay for medical reasons, we asked Travis if we could end our trip a week early, he had said yes, but we would lose a couple of days rental. We were ok with that, he later confirmed that the refund had been sent to us. When we did not see the refund, we called to ask about it and were told that we would not get it, he had made a mistake. There was an unpleasant discussion, in which we were clear that his changing his mind after the fact was unacceptable. His reply was that the people in the community knew him, and he did not have to worry. I have requested a statement for tax purposes, he has not supplied them and we do not expect to see them since he did not return the taxes paid unused time.
Earlier during the rental process, he had dropped the ball on a different property, thus leaving us struggling to find a replacement during our first week in Charlottesville. The house is adorable but, service makes just as big of an impact as the site.
New Orleans, La
Flys everwhere. Poor cleaning crew.
Upon checking in, we were swarmed with 100s of flys. Dozens lay dead on the floor, rugs, kitchen counters and bathroom. The source was found to be a couple overstuffed garbage bags on the back porch that had not been removed from the property or properly disposed of. The back porch was totally unusable over our 4 day stay. While the house may have had 100s of flies, the back porch easily had thousands. They never cleared out fully. It was apparent the previous cleaning crew was not through and the house had not had anyone tend to it in quite a while. We left the house immediately and called the management to clean. They sent someone over but had to be called back as the fly carcasses continued to be discovered. No concessions were made during our 3 night/4day stay where we spent approximately $1,000. We felt the house was dirty which made it difficult to enjoy the kitchen and bathroom specifically during our stay. We felt it was necessary to clean the house which is not what we planned on doing during our getaway. Great location. Great house overall. Very poor management.
Wonderful Stay at Graves St Magnolia
My husband and I stayed at Graves St. Magnolia in October and had a wonderful time. The house is located in the quiet neighborhood of Belmont, with quick access to the downtown Charlottesville pedestrian mall, and numerous shops and restaurants in Belmont. We were within walking distance of one of our favorite C-ville restaurants, Mas. Just behind the house is a great little coffee shop / gourmet market called The Farm, and across the street is Spudnuts for awesome donuts. There is a very easy flow to the house with a living room, kitchen, dining room and office downstairs, and three bedrooms, laundry and full bath upstairs. The master bedroom is very spacious and outfitted with a comfortable bed. We did not use the other rooms, but they looked inviting as well. The fully fenced yard was a plus as we were traveling with our dogs. The only recommendation I would make is for the owner to invest in some additional kitchen tools. It would've been difficult to cook a meal with the sparse selection of cookware. On the plus side, there are plenty of serving pieces such as plates, bowls and glassware. There's also an ample supply of wine glasses to enjoy local Va wine. I would definitely rent this house again for its location and comfortable feel of a home away from home.
