    Additional Location Information

La Dolce Vita is located Azille, a small village roughly half way between Carcassonne and Narbonne, in Languedoc Roussillon, France. We are less than 1 hour's drive from Beziers, and Toulouse is about a 1.5 hour drive to the West. Perpignan and the Spanish border are about 1-2 hours drive away to the South. A perfect location to explore the area from all sides!

The village of Azille, with its population of around 1,300 inhabitants, has much to offer in terms of history and culture: In the middle ages, Azille was one of the more important sites of the Archdiocese of Narbonne, which gave it the 14th century church of St. Julien, in the center of town (still maintained and in use to this day). The Clarisses Monastery is just around the corner from the church and may also be visited.

Parts of the original fortified walls, towers and entryways can still be seen surrounding the very center of town.

There are also a number of chateaux from the 19th century still in use today, which you can see as you stroll around the village. Take special note of the Chateau Gallimard, of which the Azillaise population are quite proud!

Only 4 kilometers from the center of Azille, the Canal du Midi runs through the vineyards and the community's hamlet of Jaurrès, which houses original aging barrels of gargantuan size.

In town, there are a few wine tasting rooms and Azille's own Cave Cooperative, which is home to many of the grapes harvested in the fall from the vineyards surrounding the village.

A site to see, come and visit Azille!

      Simply Brilliant

Left on 06/15/2012 for a stay in April 2012

If you want a great welcome, comfortable traditional accommodation with an original twist and fantastic home-cooked food then this is the place for you.
Natalie's easy-going hospitality is faultless, inviting you into her ancient stone house in this ancient village nestling among the vineyards. The traditional decor is enhanced by some individual touches, such as the "themed" bedrooms; Safari, Boudour, Tatami. On request you can have delicious home-cooked international cuisine that's not easy to find in this most french part of France. There is also a good chance you will share you meal with an international cast of interesting guests.
Azille is a quiet haven for relaxing or for cycling along the Canal du Midi. And it is a great starting point for visits to the famous citadel of Carcassonne, to the sea at Narbonne or Gruissan or for exploring the land and history of the Cathars.
I loved it. I'm sure you will too.

short spring break at La Dolce Vita in azille

Left on 03/25/2012 for a stay in March 2012

I needed a short break in azille and received the usual excellent service at La Dolce Vita. A friendly, homely, family chambre d'hote with interesting, individual rooms, a very good evening meal available on request. Azille is a lovely, unspoilt small town in the beautiful aude valley, steeped in history, peaceful and friendly. Excellent local wine. Near to mountains, lakes and the Canal du Midi. Easy drive from Carcassonne airport.

      Great stay

Left on 03/18/2012 for a stay in May 2011

I have stayed at La Dolce Vita several times over the years and have found it to be a great B & B to stay at. Natalie is a great host and a fantastic cook. I have had several meals with her during my stay and even been asked to help her in the kitchen. She also set me up to go with some of the local farmers to harvest the grapes during which they invited me to a proper breakfast with them in the grape vinyard. I plan to go back to France in the future and will stay at La Dolce Vita again.
