Are you ready for your holiday in Tuscany? Le Mura di Sopra, "The Walls at the Top", is waiting for you sitting high on the hillside in the magnificent mountain area of the Garfagnana.

This beautiful self catering Tuscan country villa dates from the 15th century and has been fully and authentically restored, carefully retaining its original character.

Mura di Sopra is available to rent throughout the year. The primary rental at "The Walls at the Top" is:

The farmhouse, which sleeps 10 complete with a full kitchen and dining seating for 12, first and second floor bedrooms with en-suite baths, a lounge with satellite TV, DVD... and high speed Internet, outdoor dining for 14 on the terrace and a laundry with washer and dryer.

If self catering isn't your style or you just want time off from cooking, some or all of your means can be prepared by our delightful housekeeper. She also specialises in authentic Tuscan meals for special occasions.

If more space is needed for large families or groups you can also rent:

The barn, which sleeps 4 to 6 complete with a full kitchen with dining area, dishwasher, a large bath on the main level with shower and toilet, a spacious parlour which can double as a bedroom with futons and two upstairs twin bedrooms with a large bath and toilet.

A Perfect Setting for a Perfect Tuscan Holiday

The farmhouse and barn are situated on grounds about 16 hectares (40 acres) surrounded by mature trees, olive groves, chestnuts, cypresses and fruit trees. There are two shady meadows on the high ground above the house and pool.

There are wonderful nature walks from the property and in the local area with an abundance of wildlife, wild flowers and birds such as owls and eagles.

A splendid 12 x 6 metre (50 x 20 feet) private swimming pool is surrounded by patio and grassy areas adjacent to the house. The pool and patio is in the sun all day, but there are plenty of shady areas to be found.

Outside the house is a large terrace where you can dine and marvel at the spectacular panorama and magnificent views of the Apuan Alps. Below the patio is an outdoor cooking area with two solid stone barbecues.

Benabbio

The local village of Benabbio, which is a few minutes walk from Mura di Sopra, has a summer club where you can sample village life and dance under the stars on Saturday night.   The villa is fantastic with great amenities and great location. We had a chef and a neighbor cook for us and we really enjoyed them both. Our first cook was the neighbor and since had arrived without luggage due to an airline problem she was very helpful in resolving our baggage delivery. I have only one regret and that is that we did not stay here longer.

  Spectacular house, pool, view and wildlife

  Despite the wealth of things to see and do in nearby Lucca and northern Tuscany, we were just as happy to laze by the pool or wander nearby, looking at the profusion of wild flowers, birds and butterflies, not to mention the stunning views. A particular treat is to walk over the hillside to Benabbio village via one of several possible tracks to get bread and milk, or in the evening to go to the excellent local pizzeria and watch the sun go down. There are many good eating places within reach by car, while the house itself has first-rate barbecue facilities.

  We visited le Mura di Sopra from 3rd to 10thJuly 2010 the repeat of previous visits. We were not disappointed. We look forward to being in our idea of Paradise. In spite of the many attractions locally we would be content to spend the entire time sitting by the pool, enjoying a glass or two of wine watching the sun rise, move across the horizon and then dramatically setting. However we are tempted to revisit the many places of interest as have been noted in another review.
  
  The house is comfortable and very visitor friendly. The beds are comfortable, the views from all angles magnificent. We consider ourselves privileged to be able to visit such a beautiful, relaxing and welcoming home. We should add that we are in our 80's, reasonably fit and appreciative of the Italian ambience with all it has to offer. Good food, good wine and great atmosphere.

  A large group of us have used Mura di Sopra for the last 4 years. The place is fantastic. the views are great, the weather has been good and there is so much to do for all tastes. We have lazed around by the pool, visited all the local attractions and spent some amazing time walking in the nearby mountains. Communication with the owner is very easy and if you have an idea just ask. We have passed on our tips to others that have used the place and it seems like a great way of exploring a part of Italy that is fascinating.

  Le mura di Sopra is in a stunning location with marvellous views over the surrounding country-side. The villa is beautifully appointed with every modern amenity and comfort. There is a built-in barbeque in the garden and a lovely patio area for eating outdoors. The pool is magnificent and a good size for swimmers.
  We had some lovely walks in the surrounding woods and hills which are carpeted with spectacular wild flowers. There are many near-by restaurants for all tastes.
  The house and barns comfortably accomodate up to 16 people.
  It is a wonderful holiday home and I would love to visit it again.
