Two couples and two friends came to-getherhttp://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/reviews/write/p106396#write for a week on Bailey Island and chose this cottage as a perfect Maine escape . We didn't want to leave and we can't wait to return. The cottage is on a double lot on a slope above the ocean. Each morning and each evening we gathered after a day of swimming, kayaking, reading, walking, and of course eating on the grand porch to review the day and to plan dinner. There are many activities on Bailey Island and surrounding area, but just watching the never ending ocean for and sailing and lobster boats and possible sea life is an activity in itself.
The cottage is a typical old Maine home with white curtains billowing in the constant breeze between the harbor and the ocean. The living room is wood lined with a warm fireplace. The bedrooms are small but ample and provide for the best night's sleep. The smallest bedroom is perhaps best for a child or single adult and has the upstairs bathroom of of it. There is a larger bathroom downstairs. Both have showers. The dinning room is decorated with the owners lovely blue and white china with a long dinning table. We used the outdoor grill to cook some amazing fish dinners. The kitchen is small, but with all the places to enjoy dinner we did not eat at home often. One should be sure to try the lobster shacks on the island. We particularly enjoyed the lobster rolls served on Basin Point Road in Hopewell just short of the big restaurant. All of us will remember our time in this inviting and cozy summer home with great fondness -

Westmoreland, NHAmazing views and property. No better on Bailey Island!

This is the house I've returned to for my summer vacation for the last 8 years. It is amazing. There are views from every window and the size of the yard for outdoor activities is unmatched. The interior is simple, and I love the fact that the property has been in one family since the late 1800s. The location is perfect. It's just under an hour to Portland/Freeport and a quick walk to the Giant's Steps. We've recommended this property to friends and they have loved it too. Of all the places I've vacationed over the years, this is my favorite!

Westmoreland, NHThe perfect oceanfront vacation spot
Left on 01/30/2011 for a stay in June 2010
You cannot find a better place if you want a water view. The house is located with ocean on one side and bay on the other. The sun rises over the ocean and sets over the bay, and both views are visible from the house windows. Fresh lobster is available from local fisherman, and lovely little towns filled with antique shops and fun restaurants are close by. I have gone here every June for a decade. It's perfect. This is not a spa. It's a family cabin, rustic, with quirks. But the owner is very helpful and friendly, and the rooms are very comfortable and cozy. I have recommended it to friends, and they loved it, too.

We spent a fantastic week at the De Hart cottage on Bailey Island in Maine. It was the best, most relaxing vacation we have ever spent. The accommodations were rustic and charming. The view was beyond picturesque!
But most importantly this was a wonderful place to reconnect with family and decompress. We had a wonderful time and will be going back again in 2011.
We made memories here that will last our children a lifetime. We cannot wait to go back! -

This was the first time my husband and I stayed on Bailey Island. The house is a charming visit back to the old days. The owner Gay is a pleasant person to deal with and very accommodating. The location couldn't be better with the ocean right there to lull you to sleep at night and to wake up to it in the morning is the best! The neighbors next door were friendly too and we felt good about staying here. Hope to be back there in the future.
