Newport-on-TayRain or shine Syracuse annexe is an excellent base for visiting
Left on 07/19/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We were made very welcome from arrival and Willie and Doreen were available to be contacted at any time to ensure our comfort and offer sugestions of things to do in the area, without being intrusive. We used the cycles available at the property to see some of the surrounding area.
On arrival their was a lovely welcome pack and the house was very clean. House was every bit as good as the description on their website. Plenty of room and a nice seeting area outside although not used much due to the Scottish weather. Bathrooms were luxurious and the whole house was done to a very high standard.
Ballater is a wonderfull place with nice shops, eateries and lovely walks around this majestic area. Although convient for all amenities the house is tucked away in a quiet area with lovely views of some of the surrounding area.Response from William Peter Murdoch - 07/20/2012

We do like to think that our website is a true reflection of the property and if people find it even better then we are very happy, it was a shame about the weather although there were some nice days when we thought you might enter the Tour de Scotland , we will need to get a yellow jersey for your next visit, many thanks for your kind words , so glad you had a good time.

We discovered "Syracuse" in 2007 and have just returned from our 6th stay there. We call it our Haven. Accomodation is luxurious, clean and very spacious. We feel very much at home there. Willie & Doreen the owners live next door and are the best hosts anyone could wish for. The village of Ballater is a short walk away and is surrounded by magnificent scenery, and has a variety of shops and restaurants. Walks and hills to climb are in abundance and the historic village of Braemar and Balmoral Castle are a short drive away. The icing on the cake is after a day out exploring is knowing you can come back to the annexe and soak your tired muscles in one of the two jacuzzi baths! Bliss!

Having now stayed here on several occasions over the last few years. I can honestly say that Doreen and Willie have maintained the acccomodation to the highest standard and it offers everything that you could possibly need for the perfect holiday. It is situated close to the local park and amenities, yet it in a secluded and in a peaceful location. Nothing is too much trouble and there is a very much appreciated welcome pack on arrival. Needless to say we have booked again for this year.

Left on 01/09/2012 for a stay in May 2010
We have stayed with Willaim and Doreen Murdoch on 5 occasions and have found the accomodation to be just as good as one would expect from your own home. The annexe has every possible mod con and is an ideal centre for all that Ballater and Royal Deeside has to offer. We personally spend our time playing golf on the local courses, visiting Balmoral castle, and taking in the lovely nearby towns of aboyne,Braemar,Banchory and of course the lovely City of aberdeen. There are several excellent restaurants in the area, but the annexe provides all that visitors need to dine in or barbeque in the gardens.Excellent value for money...you will not be disappointed.

Very modern, clean & comfortable. A welcome pack with basic essentials in the fridge was most welcome and a nice point of detail after long drive. Good parking and access. Very private. Jacuzzi bath was a bonus. Very clean and well maintained We wre made to feel most welcome. Just on the outskirts of the village 10 min walk to pubs, restaraunts shops. Lovely walks especially golf course and 7 Bridges. A walk up Craigendarroch hill is worth the effort. Spectacular views. Godd shops in village for provisions. We will definatly be back. Mr & Mrs Murdoch have created a lovely cottage in a lively location. See you next year.

We like to think the welcome pack is just enough to get you started, either with a cup of tea or a glass of something more exciting for that special occasion, you are so right about the beautiful walks we have, especially the view from the top of the Craigendarroch, look forward to your return, thanks for your comments.

Doreen and Willie are simply the best hosts that any holiday maker could wish for. We have stayed in their lovely annexe three or four times now and love our time there. It is literally a home away from home. The accommodation gives you complete freedom to enjoy yourself on Royal Deeside, you can use the annexe to have a lazy retreat or as the base camp for an adventure filled holiday. The accommodation has everything that you could possibly need for a self catering holiday - so much so that we tried to figure out something that we could leave as a little gift to add to the house and could think of nothing that was missing. The location is great - being no more than two minutes walk from the centre of the village and only a short drive to many beautiful and historic landmarks or visitor attractions. We always feel depressed whenever we set off for real home because we enjoy our time in Ballater so much. Cannot wait until our next visit.
