Known as Totternish amongst the locals, this area of Scotland offers some of the most striking landscapes in the country. This spacious, detached house lies only a few yards from the seashore in the scattered community of Balmaquein, midway between Duntulm and Flodigarry, and is fantastically placed for easy access to everything this picturesque island has to offer. The property itself is simple but comfortable and has been furnished to a high standard. It provides cosy, welcoming accommodation for up to six adults with incomparable panoramic views of the Scottish mainland and scenic Skye. Ideally placed for walkers, climbing enthusiasts and... those just looking for some peace and quiet, this house is a great location for the holidaymaker that wants some space. The main tourist attractions are all close by and Portree, twenty-five miles away provides a range of pubs and restaurants.
Amenities: Central heating with electric fire in sitting room. Electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, TV, video, stereo/CD player. All fuel and power inc. in rent from 1st April to 30th September, £20 fuel supplement 1st October to 31st March. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for 3 cars. One well-behaved dog welcome. Shop 8 miles, pub 2 miles. Note: Dogs should be kept under control at all times as sheep roam freely. Note: Parents please note close to rocky shore, dangerous for unsupervised children.
Region: From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain’s best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
Town: Situated on the Isle of Skye, the village of Balmaquein is situated between Duntulm and Flodigarry, where Flora McDonald famously helped Bonnie Prince Charlie to escape from his pursuers by dressing him as a woman. This stunning island has a wide array of visitor attractions, such as the Skye Museum of Island Life, Dunvegan Castle and the Aros Centre. Portree, the Island’s capital is set around a natural harbour and is full of shops, hotels and restaurants. With the Skye Bridge now in place, access to the mainland is easy, but for those wishing to take the 'Bonny Boat' to Skye, a ferry still runs throughout the summer months.
Still thinking about our wonderful holiday on Skye

Definitely the best equipped holiday cottage we have stayed in - and we have stayed in cottages all over Skye. All the basic needs are covered and some of the luxuries too - like hot water bottles for chilly nights. Very comfortable and homely with a beautiful view. Only complaint was that the house was not really very warm. We had a good week weather-wise, but the temperature was in the 4 - 6 degrees range and we found the house rather cold in the evenings, even with the heating and electric fire on. It was of course a particularly cold spring this year, so perhaps in a normal year it would be fine. Also, the cottage is very private - the last house on the road and so peaceful. Saw an otter, eagle and a seal from the window. I would certainly go back to Balmaquein and am thinking of taking my mum there for her 80th birthday.

A lovely cottage on the edge of the sea. Wonderful views-even in rough seas! The shoreline was very rocky -like being on your own little island.Great for dogs, but had to keep an eye out for the resident sheep. Might not be suitable for very young children.
A good location to see everything in North Skye, and further south.Wonderfully solitary, but just off the main road around the island. Sunsets behind the house were great.Very comfortable house.Everything we needed. We would willingly stay here another time. Didn't want to leave!
What a week

Weather was brilliant.
Cottage was brilliant.
Fishing was exceptional.
I am a regular visitor to the island and love this area. This is the first time staying at this cottage and loved every minute. The cottage is cosy and romantic but the sunsets and sunrises are to die for. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity, then this cottage is well recommended.

We were looking for peace & tranquility and found it. The property is on the shoreline and a seal visited the small bay virtually daily. Sheep wandered through the rugged landscape, curious about the occupants of the house and a seagull watched daily hoping for food. The views including the sunsets are magnificent and the property is very comfortable - good seating and beds. Everything that you might need is provided (other than pegs?) and the local manager is lovely, offering any assistance when needed. No complaints at all.
The best week we've had on holiday!

Five of us spent a week on the Isle of Skye and had the best week ever! The weather was very kind to us (when the rest of Britain was drowning!) and the cottage very comfortable. Decor is outdated but lovely still. Rooms were spacious, warm and comfortable. We fished off the rocks and Barbequed the fish on the rocks. We saw a sea otter on most days. If you are looking for a holiday to relax, read a few good books and enjoy the views of the ocean then this is it. Plenty to do on the days you don't feel like reading.
We will be returning next year.
