wimborneIt could have been better ???
Left on 10/05/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Could not fault the service, the cottage how ever needs a of T.L.C we had mold on the walls esp hall way and the toilet, the cottage was very smelly, (damp/not used much).
Had some concern about the water ie the colour (had a brown tint) we were told this was like this because it came from the water from the hills ?? also it was being treated in the cottage so safey to use.
The location was great, good views and Quiet which was what we wanted, blenty of walking to be had here.
Would we come back, big No to the cottage but yes to Scotland.Response from Mackay's Agency - 05/19/2013

FarnhamFantastic Cottage surrounded by nature and beautiful views
Left on 10/21/2011 for a stay in October 2011
A lovely comfortable cottage, full of charm and history, set in beautiful countryside and enjoying wonderful views. Red squirrels and deer are abundant and the location is peaceful and private. Cottage has everything generously provided and the most friendly and extremely welcoming owners. Comes highly recommended as a ideal place to stay and enjoy discovering the locality, with its deep history and breathtaking beauty.

Its in a lovely spot down a single track road. The cottage is comfortable and more than big enough for 2 with 2 dogs. The surrounding countryside is marvellous if you enjoy walking and being on the hills. There is a great little lunchtime cafe in Balquidder 20 minutes walk away

derbysdisappointed
Left on 08/24/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Very dissappointed in this cottage, smelt very fusty soon as you walked in, probably due to non rentals. 2nd worst cottage I have stayed in over 12 years visiting scotland. The cottage needs a serious up grade to the rental they are charging, (especially the kitchen), grill didnt work, carpets trip hazard in living room, garden furniture not fit to sit on ( unstable and filthly so was the barbecue, all un-useable through the cottage stay.

ChesterValue but flawed
Left on 07/09/2011 for a stay in June 2011
We felt the cottage was delightfull and well equipped but suffered from an effective form of heating. Our week was wet and cold and the electric heating was expensive and ineffective and the place felt damp. It is in a beautiful location and has a lot going for it but need work!

Stroneslaney cottage is an old, traditional building in a lovely, slightly remote setting. The two near neighbouring houses are not obtrusive, and otherwise the nearest house is at least a mile away. The cottage and garden are on the edge of a forest, and we saw a deer close by on the forest lane leading to the forest during our stay. Previous visitors have qpparently seen red squirrels in the garden, albeit with the encouragement of nuts. The cottage has a small porch and hallway, a sitting room, large kitchen, small bathroom and seperate toilet. The bathroom has a shower attachment that we had trouble fixing to the taps, but after turning on the cottage's water heater, the bath water runs hot very quickly, and water supply always seemed to stay hot for a remarkably long time. The bedroom has one double and one single bed, plus furniture (wardrobe and drawers), but is not cramped. The kitchen is well fitted, including microwave. The sitting room has a large television, with digi-box. There are several stand-alone room heaters, which did an adequate job drying our wet clothes on the one day of rain in our week (repeat: only one day of rain!). In a wetter week there might have been a problem drying things sufficiently overnight for another day's walk. There are probably a dozen or more Munros within less than an hour's drive of the cottage, plus the lower but very scenic Trossachs also close by. One highlight of the cottage is the absence of light pollution, and so on clear nights the view of the starlit sky is wonderful, and the bedroom has a small skylight.
