Nancy & David
Framingham, MAChristmas in Bar Harbor
Left on 01/01/2013 for a stay in December 2012
We spent our Christmas holiday in this lovely town home. It was great to have all the conveniences of home -- an extremely well-equipped, full kitchen, laundry, two bathrooms. Our hostess was very welcoming and made us feel like old friends. She also provided helpful info on restaurants, shopping, local activities and directions. The furnishings are homey and comfortable. The location is very convenient, walking distance to restaurants, shopping, groceries, Ymca and the waterfront. You'll enjoy a stay here at any season of the year!

Dear Nancy and David,
It was nice to have someone stay at my place over the holidays. I am happy that you both were comfortable here and that you also got out and did a few things even though it was cold. How nice to hear you took advantage of our YMCA. I thought you would find it welcoming.
Wishing you both a Happy New Year in 2013 !
I hope someday you will consider staying in my rental another time. Thanks so much for leaving it in great condition ! I am looking forward to maybe seeing you again on another one of your vacations.

Left on 11/04/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Home away from Home was just that. Everything about it made you feel like you were at your own home. It was easy to find, well located to grocery, restaurants and town. The house was well furnished and equiped with everything you would need plus some. And one of the most important things to me is cleanliness and it was immaculate. There were restaurant menus, brochures and books on the area. Dee Dee was also easy to work with and checked in on us to see if we had everything we needed.

Clearwater, FloridaThe Perfect Spot to Vacation in Bar Harbor!!!
Left on 09/19/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This townhome was amazing. Immaculate, comfortable and unexpected extras were provided by DeeDee. We were right in Bar Harbor and rather than drive we walked 10 minutes to shops, restaurants and in-town sites. We were just a few minutes from the grocery store. The kitchen had everything to make a breakfast meal or a nice dinner - there was also a big grill and picnic table in the yard. We went on picnics all over the island - coolers, binoculars and camp chairs were some of the unexpected extras in the house. DeeDee makes herself available if there should be any problems or concerns, and, she provided lots of information on the area and lots of ideas on what to see and do - rain or shine. We saw the quiet side of the island and the hub of the island, we went to the Schoodic Penninsula, we went star gazing on top of Cadillac Mountain one clear-cool night, we canoed on Long Pond, we biked the carriage trails in the national park and had a delicious lunch (with popovers) at Jordon Pond. Every day was jam packed and each night we got to come home to the perfect place to relax. This townhome is nicely situated in a quiet residential neighborhood and is the perfect spot to stay!!! Our thanks to DeeDee for insuring each of her guests "a memorable vacation and a comfortable home to spend it in"!!!

Dee's house was very clean, with all the comforts of home! She provided restaurant suggestions (they were all wonderful), and told us about activities happening close by. Dee checked to make sure we had everything we needed at the house (and we did)! All in all this was a great vacation spot - walking distance to shops and eateries... and a very short drive to acadia!

Hi, Thanks for choosing my place to stay while in Acadia. I was happy to hear that you found everything to your liking. The short walk to town and the park entrances make it a perfect place to stay. The availabilty of the free shuttle buses are great and within waking distance from my place. I hope you and your friends went home with some nice memories and maybe sometime return for another vacation in Acadia !
It was nice meeting all of you ! Thanks, DeeDee

The homeowner was warm and welcoming. The house is in a great location so that you can park your car and see the town of Bar Harbor, the harbor and even acadia National Park without having to drive. You are near the Island Explorer buses so you can use them to tour acadia and Mt Desert Island without driving. The house was spotlessly clean and impeccably maintained. It's location on a quiet street was perfect for relaxing when you aren't touring. The house has all the amenities a family could want in a great location.

Concord, MAWell appointed Home in the Center of Everything
Left on 08/12/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We chose this rental property for my parents, and my husband and two kids. From the beginning, it was a joy working out the details of our stay with DeeDee. Our intent was to cook most of the time and eat out 5 or so times. But this home was so well appointed, we only ate one dinner out, and made all of our other meals in the kitchen. We were able to quickly drive or walk to any of a hundred different activities from the front door of the house: Acadia, whale watching boat, ice cream, Village Green, Historical Society, etc. DeeDee, thank you so much!
Response from Delores M Shields - 08/13/2012

Heather, Chris, and family,
It was a nice meeting you. I loved the expressions on your little girls face when she was telling me the things she did !! She really enjoyed the Whale Watch and the wading pool. I think your little boy wanted to add something but was a little on the shy side. Cute !!
Your parents were excited to be able to walk up street and leave their car in the driveway. I know they went to Jordan Pond House ! Yummy !! Popovers and tea !!
Please come back another time. I am sure there are things you didn't get to do and the little ones will be a year older. I think they would enjoy the Ranger Tours for little ones and their families. Thanks so much for choosing my place to stay in while in Acadia and for the nice write up. (Also, thanks for the nice grater for the kitchen and for buying the next guests a pass to the park !! I'm sure they appreciated it).

We had a very relaxing stay at the house. It was well-maintained and DeeDee was very accommodating. She also gave tips on what to do and where to eat. The house is located in-town, away from the hustle and bustle, but still a walking distance to the center of the town.
Since the house has no air conditioning, there were a couple of hot days and nights that we wished there was air conditioning. Despite that, our stay was still comfortable and we will rent the house again when we go back to Bar Harbor.Response from Delores M Shields - 07/19/2012

Hello Lenie and family,
Sorry about not having an air-conditioner. Usually, there is really no need for one here in Bar Harbor but sometimes "Mother Nature" will fool us with unexpected heat waves. All in all, I know you had a good time from what you told me. It was a pleasure meeting you and anytime you visit the area again I hope you check for availablity at my place. You are more then welcome.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the summer. Thanks again for choosing my place to stay at while on your vacation.

First, Dee is such a great host. She keeps in contact and passing along information in the area that she feels might be of interest. We've stayed at numerous rentals on our vacations over the past few years, this by far was the most comfortable. After long days of hiking, sightseeing, etc, it was nice to have comfortable furnishings to relax on. The home was very clean and was very well stocked of towels, etc which i have found lacking at most other rentals. The location is also very good. We easily walked with our 4 year old from the home to Bar Island and all over Bar Harbor. It was nice not having to try to park where all of the shops and resturants are.The home is about 5 minutes to acadia making it very convenient as well.If you are looking a clean, comfortable home that is convenient for all things MDI, this is the place.

Left on 05/14/2012 for a stay in May 2012
The best vacation rental ever. Comfortable, quiet and somewhere you could truly relax in. DeeDee did everything to make us feel comfortable and is the perfect host.
Location is excellent - A quiet residential street just 8 minutes walk to Main street, Bar Harbor. Nice to leave the car behind. Lots of Eateries for dine-in or take-out well within walking distance.
House is nicely sized - 3 bedrooms, full kitchen. It's lovely to stay in a vacation house that has pictures on the walls, books and magazines on the shelves, and even some games and toys for rainy days. The deck has a bbq and sitting area.
If you want a sterile, sparkling-new, tasteless and expensive resort or maybe an impersonal, busy, noisy hotel with a pool - then stay somewhere else. If you want a vacation home with all the features you need to relax and enjoy spending time with family and friends, then definitely consider this.

Portland, OregonGreat location!
Left on 11/06/2011 for a stay in May 2011
A group of my friends and I rented out this place to attend a wedding in Bar Harbor. Delores was very informative and prompt in her communication leading up to our visit, which was much appreciated. She even met us upon our arrival to get us oriented and to make us feel at home-she is super sweet.
The two bedrooms upstairs are nicely situated with clean/fresh bedding, closet to hang clothes and a television. Both bathrooms have nice showers with fresh towels. We had a large group, so we used the pullout in the living room downstairs and the roll-in cot (which is a nice option). The comfort of the pull-out and the cot are as to be expected--not ideal. However, they did the job and everyone was happy.
The location is perfect, walking distance to downtown, restaurants and everything else.
The only thing to be aware of before you book this place, is the time you have to check-out by on your departure date is early. We had to be out by (I think, 9/9:30am). Which, for some of us was fine because we had to catch early flights, but for those that had later flights it was super inconvenient. Just something to be aware of. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this place--and Delores is a delight!Response from Delores M Shields - 11/13/2011
Owner
Thanks for taking time to put a review on my website. I am glad that you were happy with everything for the most part. I know that for some, check out time may seem early, but so far nobody has complained. I try to accommodate my guests on both ends, arrival and departure, but it is not always possible. If there is nobody checking in the day you are leaving it is sometimes possible to stay a little later. An earlier check out also allows me to have things ready so that the next guests can check in a little earlier after traveling all day. I ask that they call me as they near the area.
Thanks again for choosing my place to stay while in Acadia. DeeDee -

This is the third consecutive year that we have stayed in this wonderful vacation home. The central location is perfect and it is a very short walk to stores, restaurants, and the beautiful Bar Harbor waterfront. However, this home is located on a very quiet residental street. You will not be bothered by traffic or noise. Inside, it is tastefully furnished and is very comfortable, just like home! Everyone can watch their favorite TV shows because both bedrooms and the living room are equipped with a TV. Everything is spotlessly clean and fresh. The kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owner, DeeDee, is a delightful person who goes out of her way to make you feel welcome. She makes sure that everyone who stays at her place has whatever they need. This is truly a special place to spend your vacation!

As a New Yorker, we have to admit my initial skepticism that the reviews were too good to be true. We can now say first hand that DeeDee and her home are genuine gems. The home was more than comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well equipped with everything including binoculars, breakfast bars, umbrellas, and games for the kids. DeeDee anticipated everything and was warm, hospitable, accommodating, honest, and available for questions or problems (although there were none). The location was on a quiet residential block yet only a few blocks from the bustle and beauty of Bar Harbor and minutes from acadia. We truly felt at home in Bar Harbor and we already long to return. Our only complaint is that is was so hard to leave. Thank you DeeDee!

We were met by the owner, Deedee, who showed us around the apartment. Everything we could possibly need was there and it was baby-proofed..outlet covers and a gate. She had toys, a pack n play, high chair..anything to make our experience at Bar Harbor easier. Deedee checked in periodically to make sure we had everything we needed. The location was outstanding. We parked our car and walked into town. There were alot of wonderful restaurants, 2 Cats, Cafe This Way, for breakfast...my favorite meal on vacation-breakfast. We had wireless service, Tv's in the bedrooms..it was definitely just like a "Home away From Home". Lastly, for our ride home Deedee brought us fresh blueberry muffins for the ride home. She was a wonderful hostess. If we return to Bar Harbor we would definitely stay and we recommend this vacation home highly.

This was our first trip to Bar Harbor and Dee Dee was so welcoming and an amazing host. The home had every amenity that one could want and very clean and comfortable. So clean and freshly painted that it did not look like a rental. We also enjoyed the deck and gas grill.
The best feature: Location. The house was 2 blocks from shops, restaurants, and the Village Green where we enjoyed concerts and also took the free Explorer bus all over the island. We hardly need the car once there.
At the end of each full day, the beds were so comfy and we enjoyed the cable TV in living room, and bedrooms.
We stayed thru the 4th of July and let me tell you Bar Harbor knows how to throw a party! We enjoyed the concert, pancake breakfast, lobster dinner, and the most amazing fireworks show. The parade even came down our street.
We can't wait to go back.

Home away from Home was a wonderful place to stay in Bar Harbor. Dee Dee was there to greet us when we arrived and checked in a few times during our stay to see if we needed anything. She is very sweet and friendly.
We were in the smaller townhouse with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths. The house was spotlessly clean and had everything we could possibly need. Comfortable beds, plenty of blankets, we found a fan in the closet, upstairs bath had a hairdryer, and, though we didn't end up cooking anything, there is a full kitchen with all the dishes and cooking utensils one would need
, even a small cooler and ice packs. The house is on a nice, quiet side street and we were able to walk into town which was nice since parking in town is limited. The living room was quite comfortable and homey. The rental would comfortably accomodate a family of 4 or 2 couples. You could have 6 or 7 people, but it would be a little crowded.
Price was reasonable for this rental and I have nothing bad to stay. Would definitely recommenmd to others and would consider staying again.

Delores is a lovely host with a very comfortable home. The kitchen has all the amenities to cook. The rooms are comfortable and being close to town to walk everywhere is a great plus. We hit Bar Harbor during a heat wave which was unusual. Her home does not have air conditioning so sleeping was difficult . Having a washer and dryer in the place was very nice and convenient, as was the internet access. One thing that i would recommend to Delores is having some cold drinks in the refrig. when new guests arrive. After a long trip and a very hot day it was a bit disappointing that there was no drinks in the refrigerator. Just a nice suggestion for her future guests. She was great in telling us where to dine and what to see. Loved Bar Harbor and hope to get back there one day.

Hi, Sorry about your disappointment arriving to the rental with out cold water in the refrigerator for you. The time you arrived was a very unusual hot week. I normally don't fill the ice trays either, only because I wonder if some people might question using the ice if they had not prepared it themselves. Our water here on the Island is very safe to drink and I have a sheet of paper posted on the refrigerator that tells you about it. Most people just let the faucet run until the water gets cold and they are all set. Needless to say, after I got you the fan, (another unusual request because the house is alway cool) you enjoyed your week with no other problems. I hope sometime you can return. Thanks, DeeDee

Boston, MAGreat Vacation in Bar Harbor, me
Left on 08/19/2010 for a stay in June 2010
This would be our 2nd time returning to this property and once again it felt just like home! The house is in pristine condition and immaculate, yet feels very warm and comforting. Every household convenience is within reach. The deck and grill in back is an added bonus we enjoyed. The location is absolutely perfect. It's within walking distance to just about everything in town. We hardly ever used the car the week were in Bar Harbor. We either walked or biked everywhere. We are a family of four with 2 boys and having the Mary Glen wading pool right around the corner was refreshing convenience. DeeDee goes out her way to make everyone feel comfortable and content. During our visit she even came by with fresh baked bread! We will certainly come back again!

Another week of fun here on the Island and more important you are always happy with the rental and the location it is in. The fact that you could walk and bike from the location is a plus with two kids that like to get out and have a good time. Thanks for the nice write up. Hope to see you again.
