Description from the owner

This cozy apartment has been remodeled with all the right touches to make it an ideal home-base for your vacation. Located off of a wing of one of Bar Harbor's oldest homes on historic Mount Desert Street, the addition was originally added in 1880 when the house was converted to a summer residence. Now it is a modern and bright haven offering a sought-after location right in town. From Hidden Treasure, you'll be able to walk easily to shops and restaurants, along the famous Shore Path, to the town pier to catch an ocean excursion or hop on the free Island Explorer shuttle bus. Wonderful

Left on 05/17/2013 for a stay in May 2013

This little jewel is indeed a "hidden treasure". Located within easy walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor, it comes equipped with everything you need to settle in and set up house (including a full kitchen with everything you might need to cook for yourselves) or, if you are inclined, you can dine out every meal at terrific restaurants all within walking distance. Everything still seems practically brand new from their full renovation a few years back and the interior design, special features and little details are masterfully worked out (down to the abundance of well placed electric outlets). There are two twin beds upstairs with an adjacent sitting room equipped with rocking chair and desk (at which I am writing this review) and ample closet space. Downstairs off the snug living room is a bedroom with full sized bed. Off the other end of the living room is the kitchen where the four of us enjoyed time around the kitchen table lit by sunlight streaming through the window from the lovely garden. There is a parking space provided for one car and we had no trouble finding on street parking nearby for the other car in our group. We did a lot of research before deciding on this spot for our vacation visit and we are very happy with our choice.

      Clean and convenient...

Left on 08/27/2012 for a stay in August 2012

The apartment is extremely neat and clean. The kitchen is well stocked with blender, many pots and pans, baking dishes and even some spices to cook with. Beds are comfortable. There is a nice loft area upstairs with a desk, games, books and magazines. There is a nice yard area with an outdoor grill, table and chairs. The many windows in the house provide a great deal of natural light. Full sized washer and dryer are provided and were much needed so that we could keep up with our laundry. Wifi service was excellent. The owners' house is attached and they are available if anything is needed but allow privacy also. When we left Sandy noticed our front tire was low and helped us put air into it.

The location of the apartment is great. It is only a five minute walk to downtown and a ten minute drive to acadia. We went back for lunch most days. The apartment is in the back of the house, so it is very quiet.

Sandy was very quick with answering all emails/questions during the rental process and had our security deposit back to us in two days.

We couldn't have asked for a better lodging experience.

      Loved our stay!

Left on 08/11/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Hidden Treasure was absolutely perfect! If you're looking for the ideal spot to start your Bar Harbor/Acadia Park adventures, look no further! Hidden Treasure is a separate apartment attached to the main house where lovely owners Karen and Sandy reside. We bumped into them from time to time keeping up their magnificent gardens (I was so jealous! They are immaculate!), but we enjoyed plenty of privacy at Hidden Treasure as well. The accommodations themselves were very spacious and very clean. I loved all the natural light and windows, it really added to the charm of the whole space. And the paint colors were very soothing, cool blues, sweet yellows and happy peaches. The sitting area in the front offered a great spot to watch TV or movies, read or surf the internet (you can use the owners wireless which is very convenient). The kitchen is spacious and great for whipping up a quick dinner or some bacon and eggs for breakfast. There are plenty of pots and pans, dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, etc. The bathroom is also on the first floor just off the kitchen and next to the stacked, front load, washer and dryer. The washer and dryer really came in handy as we needed to launder our hiking clothes after long days spent in acadia. The upstairs features two twin beds and a play/study area. Since it was just the two of us, I used the upstairs as my changing area and let my husband use the dresser and closet downstairs where we slept. Aside from the accommodations themselves being perfect, the location was almost arguably even better. A quick two block walk found you in downtown Bar Harbor, close to all the restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors and souvenir stores. It was really fantastic to be that close. And driving to acadia was a breeze. I think it was maybe ten minutes? So easy. If you're looking for a nice spot to relax and just enjoy being in Bar Harbor, this is the spot. We will definitely return the next time we find ourselves in the area!

A Gem in the perfect location!

Left on 08/04/2012 for a stay in July 2012

This is a lovely and clean apartment for a couple or small family with one or two children. W could walk everywhere in downton Bar Harbor (including to the village green just 2 blocks away to take free shuttle bus to acadia National Park). My daughter especially loved the upstairs bedroom and den. The only downside might have been that the bathroom was a little narrow, but all the positives dwarf this one small negative.

Great 2 bedroom place to stay in Bar Harbor

Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We (and our kids) loved our stay. The location was perfect, easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the village green -- and walkable to the grocery store as well. The apartment was clean and well equipped, including laundry facilities. Our kids especially looked forward to spending time there, in their upstairs "suite" where there was a bedroom and a common room. The yard was beautifully maintained. The hosts were really nice -- made us feel right at home and gave us great advice about things to do in town and around the island. No complaints whatsoever.

      Perfect location for fall foliage

Left on 01/11/2012 for a stay in October 2011

Stayed here in October and it was ideal.
Centrally located (lots of good restaurants nearby as well as useful shops and tourist spots) yet quiet and private.
We came to see the fall foliage and New England scenery and this was a great base for us - lots to see locally (Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain are must-sees) and easy to travel to/from when visiting other areas of Maine.
The apartment itself was warm and cosy, with new appliances and everything we needed during our stay. I would definitely recommend a visit to Bar Harbor and Hidden Treasure as the place to stay.

Resting place during an active stay

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in August 2011

Hidden Treasure was the perfect place to stay during a vacation when we like to be outdoors and active most of the time. It was restful to come back to after a busy day, provided a good spot to hang out during a rainy day, gave us the option to eat in or out, and provided ameneties that are often lacking. Our hosts, Sandy and Karen, were welcoming!

Quiet get away in the center of Bar Harbor

Left on 08/02/2011 for a stay in July 2011

My wife and I had a wonderful stay here in July. Hidden Treasure is perfectly location, just steps away from shopping and restaurants in Bar Harbor and a short drive from acadia. The apartment is attached to a lovely house located on Mt. Desert St. Although the street is busy, we never noticed the noise as the apartment doesn't face the street. The apartment was completely remodeled last fall. It is tastefully decorated and has a fully equipped kitchen. The washer/dryer was a huge plus. We found the apartment to be very spacious compared to other cottages that we've stayed at in the area. There is access to the owners' beautiful garden - nice place to read a book in the afternoons. The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Thanks for a delightful two weeks in Bar Harbor!

A gem in the heart of Bar Harbor

Left on 05/06/2011 for a stay in November 2010

      Hidden Treasure is just that.

Nestled in the heart of Bar Harbor this beautiful rental allows one to walk (1-3 minutes) to all of the downtown shops, Village Green and the waterfront. The recently (2010) remodeled two bedroom rental is immaculate with extremely tasteful decor. A fully equipped kitchen gives you the option to stay at home if you tire of all the good Bar Harbor eateries. Longer stays are made comfortable by the cozy living room, the "reading room" and washer/dryer. For being so centrally located it is surprisingly quiet - positioned off the street behind the main house. This is a clean and restful sanctuary after a busy day in town or after coming down from a hike in acadia National Park.

If you are looking for a big place, Hidden Treasure is not for you. For everyone else looking for a comfortable, tasteful and well positioned place to stay in Bar Harbor, this is the place for you.

Manager Sandy McFarland provides friendly and prompt responses to any questions or requests. He is the sort of rental manager that everyone wishes for but never has.
