Monique and Joe have clearly done their homework. They have provided everything you might need during your stay, and if by some chance you might require something special they go to great lengths to accommodate you. The apartment is decorated beautifully and tastefully and it is so clean, my husband and I felt so comfortable there. It is nice to have a washer and dryer, the kitchen if fully equipped, the bedroom lovely. The courtyard is beautiful, sadly we didn't get a chance to utilize it, we spent so much time hiking and visiting acadia. The location was just minutes from downtown Bar Harbor, in beautiful Hulls Cove. We had our own private parking right on the property, so our vehicle was safe, which is very important to my husband. Joe and Monique were so friendly and eager to please, we will definitely be returning next year.

If you're on a couples vacation, look no further. This rental has it all! Nicely appointed with all the conveniences you desire. Charming and private whilst cozy yet not cramped. A nice bonus is a lovely patio with fireplace and sitting area to dine al fresco or just to relax and toast to the good life. Bar Harbor and surroundings are easily accessible from this location...Acadia National Park entrance is a stone's throw away. It is pricey, however, and if you're a first time visitor on a limited budget, you may not take advantage of all the property offers. We were first time visitors and, as most first timers, spent our time exploring everything and everywhere. I think we would appreciate the property more on a return visit when we aren't as rushed and can have more leisurely days. The owners, Monique and Joe, are wonderful; communication and booking was easy.

Most first timers are amazed at the near infinate activities and seemingly endless trails and carraige roads, it's no wonder they are hardly here more than to sleep. The must see/must do list generaly goes unfinished.
Unfortunately do to the uniqueness of Acadia and it's popularity the cost of fun, dining and lodgeing all have to be considered carfully. It is possible however to see Acadia on a budget just pack yourself a picnic lunch, pick a trail and enjoy.
Thank you

We found the Wayfaring Mermaid Suite to be a charming, comfortable and very clean suite. Everything is well thought out for the guests. The area is perfect. It is right outside of acadia National Park Visitor Center and close to Bar Harbor. It was so nice to be able to walk across the street to the restaurants from the suite if you didn't feel like getting back in the car to drive somewhere. The food in all of the area restaurants was amazing. We enjoyed our stay and highly recommend the Wayfaring Mermaid Suite

We wanted a nice romantic getaway and that's exactly what we got. The location was perfect. It was extremely close to acadia and downtown Bar Harbor. The apartment was very cozy and very clean. We had a great time whether we stayed in or went out. This is the perfect place for 2!

Knowing what Acadia has to offer and the active type of visitor it draws was easy to plan for when setting up the Suite but also high on our list was exactly this. By our seeing to the details you can see to what matters most and it seems you did just that. We are happy you had such a good time

Los Gatos CABeautiful apartment!
Left on 11/01/2011 for a stay in October 2011
We wanted to find a great vacation rental for our first trip to Maine, celebrating my retirement, and this apartment exceeded our expectations. Joe met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the apartment, answering our questions and pointing out the amenities. They have thought of everything in building this getaway. There was a storage room next to the apartment for equipment and luggage, a fully-equipped kitchen, a very comfortable bed, and a garden court with BBQ available. We were there for a few days and never found anything lacking. The washer and dryer were great (and detergent was already in the bathroom cabinet). The shower had good pressure and the water heater is tankless so there was never a waiting period for a shower. The bed was very comfortable. The entire apartment was very clean and fresh.
We found ourselves marveling over the details of the apartment---the workmanship is impressive, with beautiful built-ins and wonderful special touches throughout. The decor is beautiful---the colors and fabrics evoking a beachy New England feel to the space. The space is very quiet, removed from the crowding and noise of downtown but within a few minutes' drive of that action. The entrance to the park is nearby, along with post office and gas station, as well as a convenience store.
We want to return to this beautiful area and will not hesitate to stay here again. Thank you, Joe and Monique, for a memorable stay. -

We had a wonderful stay at the Wayfaring Mermaid. Every detail is thought out for guests. When we arrived there were cookies, snacks, and blueberry soda in the fridge. We are avid hikers and the main purpose of our 6 night stay was to hike as much of acadia as possible. Our day would start by preparing breakfast and lunch in the well equipped kitchen. We would pack our lunch in our backpacks then hike all day. Returning from our long exhaustive hikes we'd jump in the shower (good water pressure and message shower head). Get ready then head out to Bar Harbor down the street for dinner. Return back and sleep in the comfortable, clean, queen size bed. On colder nights we could turn up the thermostat and on warmer nights we put a fan (provided) in the bedroom window. We had a good internet connection for our entire stay. We didn't watch t.v. much. Just the news and weather. The washer and dryer were very convenient since we were so active.
Pros: Right around the corner to the entrance to acadia. Clean, immaculate, new, comfortable, safe, and quiet. Good water pressure for a hot shower after a long hike. Clean bathroom. Washer, dryer, detergent, and fabric softener provided to do laundry. Well equipped brand new kitchen. Bosch dishwasher. Pleasant, honest, accommodating and responsive hosts. We checked in at midnight and they left the lights on and the door open. Joe and Monique were close enough if needed them yet we never felt their presence when we wanted privacy. Outdoor garden and grill. Picnic backpack for wine and cheese provided. Conveniently located close to a beautiful upscale grocery store and the center of town.
Cons: Have to drive a mile or so to get to the center of Bar Harbor where all the shops and restaurants and action is. Property is located on a residential street and through no fault of their own, their neighbors' yards are unkempt. Although the owners property is immaculate their neighbors property is not so nice. They don’t accept credit cards because they just started their business. It's a second floor apartment so you have to climb steps.Response from Monique and Joe - 05/13/2012

The Pros speak for themself so I will address the one Con concerning the neighborhood. We feel it is a simple matter of expectation and misconception. Hulls Cove is a very small rural village in Downeast Maine which is enough said for anyone who loves coastal Maine. We enjoy living here for that very reason. It's a quiet comfortable neighborhood with some old houses and old properties and each has it's own story that in no way effects the quality or pleasure of any of our guest's stay. We feel it adds to the stay by providing a quiet peaceful nook to return to after a day of what can be a rather energetic Island.

The Wayfaring Mermaid is a perfect little apartment for your Bar Harbor/Acadia getaway. It has everything you need for your home away from home including flat screens, washer/dryer, fireplace, outside grills and patio, private deck, and a pretty well-stocked kitchen! The apartment is immaculate with lots of light, windows for fresh air, a really comfy bed, and white plush towels! The photos are the real deal!
The location is wonderful with a 5-minute drive to downtown Bar Harbor, a less-than-that drive to the Hulls Cove entrance to acadia, and the post office and general store at the end of the street. The globe arrives at 0930 so get there early because they sell out fast!
If you're the type of traveler(s) that enjoy this type of accomodation, do not hesitate to stay at the Wayfaring Mermaid. You won't be disappointed!

Overall this apartment was absolutely beautiful, clean, comfortable, and conveniently close to town (5 minute drive) without being too close to the crowded streets. Joe and Monique were wonderful hosts, and were very pleasant to talk with during our stay. We would absolutely stay here again, and we plan to the next time we take a trip up to Bar Harbor/ Acadia.
The apartment is gorgeous, comfortable, perfectly clean, and has a lot of extras that were a wonderful touch. The kitchen is a great size and is pretty well equipped to make breakfast (coffee maker, fying pan) or cook a nice dinner (frying pans, baking sheet, tinfoil). The bathroom was sparkling clean, and has a huge washer/ dryer set-up, which was so convenient. The living room has a fireplace -- which we didn't use because of the warm weather, but such a nice touch! There is alo a big flat screen TV with DVD player, which was nice to have for one of the rainy days we had. There is a little porch with two chairs and a table that my boyfriend and I sat out on and looked at stars. There is also a huge backyard/ patio area with a grill, firepit, tables and chairs, etc. Perfect place to stay while visiting such a beautiful part of the country!Response from Monique and Joe - 10/19/2011

We knew we had it close to right at the start of the season and have grown with each guest, this and the other reviews is why we try. We are so pleased you had such a good time and found the appartment and location at or above your needs. The pleasant talks in the driveway are always a high point for us. Though we never take this island for granted seeing it through fresh eyes, each and every time, is a little reawakening to just how special this area is to so many.
Many Thanks

Joe was there to greet us as soon as we got there. He gave us a brief orientation to the apartment and area. The apartment was immaculate, well appointed, uncluttered, with the finishing touch of fresh flowers. The living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom were all spacious but not oversized. There was a separate storage closet for gear. The apartment was only about 3/10 of a mile from the main entrance to acadia National Park. We were very impressed with their anticipation of what people need in the design of the apartment and amenities. We highly recommend Joe and Monique, and we intend to stay with them again when we return to Bar Harbor.

From the begining it was about making a place to stay that was more than a checklist item on your itinerary. We did our homework over many Sunday morning coffees by searching other rentals and reading their web pages and especialy their reviews. We did okay for a couple of rookies but from then on it's been our guests who have fine tuned things with much welcomed feed back. As a late season guest you can in part thank the early and peak season guests, we thank you all.

My husband and I stayed here for a few days after our wedding and it was absolutely marvelous! Dealing with Monique and Joe was so easy, and it was a relief to not add additional stress to our wedding planning. When we got there, we were greeted excitedly by the owners and they showed us around. In the fridge we found strawberries and champagne for us to celebrate our wedding, which was such a sweet surprise! The apartment is in impeccable shape and had everything in it that you could need - and more. Cookware, coffee pot, blender, toaster, microwave, spices, tupperware - it was stocked to perfection. We enjoyed lounging in the apartment, and riding our bikes just a short distance into town. We also had a fire on their gorgeous patio! We loved staying here and would absolutely recommend to anyone. We hope to go back soon!

This was my first-ever trip to Maine, and this property was great! The second-floor walk-up has been newly appointed with all new amenities...the kitchen has everything you could possibly think of, fully outfitted with every appliance you could want. Just a short drive up the hill to acadia National Park, and minutes from downtown Bar Harbor, and all the great sights, and shopping. Easy access to all the local state routes, making navigating to everything very easy. There is a courtyard outside with a BBQ, too. Hardwood flooring throughout give the rooms a distinct quaintness, with a nautical feel. It made my 8-day vacation a pleasure. If you plan a trip Down East, give Monique and Joe a call, and make a reservation.
