Description from the owner

Conveniently located on Route 3 in beautiful Hulls Cove just a half mile from the Acadia National Park visitors center and the beginning of the park loop road. Bar Harbor is just 3 miles away and can be reached via the convenient free shuttle bus system if one wished to leave the car behind.

The house dates back to the 1880's. It was a successful bed & breakfast for 14 years before we decided to convert it to a weekly rental in 2007. It has retained much of its B&B; ambiance. Large groups of family and/or friends enjoy staying all together in one house where they can sit on the porch, cook and share meals but also enjoy the...Read more

    Additional Location Information

The main attraction of Mt. Desert Island is its tremendous beauty. Acadia National Park has many small mountains that boast beautiful ocean views from the summits after relatively short hikes. The trail system in the park is extensive. Cadillac Mountain is accessible by car and often has stunning sunrises and sunsets. There is even a horse-drawn carriage trip up Parkman Mt. Swimming is available at Echo Lake and for the hardy at beautiful Sand Beach. The park loop road offers incredible scenery including Thunder Hole. Mountain biking is fantastic on the park carriage roads with rentals available in Bar Harbor. Consider visiting during the beautiful fall months to enjoy the lovely changing foliage..
The house is located on Rt 3 so there are traffic issues you should be aware of . The setting is kind of half village half country but with a busy road running by. There are ocean views from the property although they are more obstructed by foliage then was the case a few years ago. Best views of the ocean are from some of the bedrooms on the second floor. Getting into the park is extremely convenient - it just takes a minute and you can completely avoid traffic in downtown Bar Harbor as you got out for your park adventures. The shuttle bus can be used to get to or from Bar Harbor (every half hour in the summer months). Very handy for people that don't want to all be on the same schedule.

      A Fabulous Place to Stay!

Left on 08/15/2012 for a stay in July 2012

5 couples stayed here for a week in mid-July and had a wonderful, fabulous, fun time at Twin Gables! The house was perfectly clean when we arrived and Mindy provided absolutley everything we needed - from laundry detergent to forgotten toothbrushes. The bedrooms were spacious and the dining room table big enough for all of us to sit around and eat, drink, and play the entertaining, laugh out loud games we found! It is centrally located to Bar Harbor, many restaurants and just a 5 minute drive to Acadia National Park. It is a perfect place to stay for a large group - we all agreed we would definitely stay at Twin Gables again if we went back to Bar Harbor!

      Wonderful time at Twin Gables

Left on 09/17/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Everything about this house served to enhance our family reunion. There was room on the porch and in the dining room for all 12 of us to have dinner together. The kitchen made cooking for the crowd easy. The bedrooms were comfortable and pretty. The location is a great jumping off place for all MDI activities. People especially liked being able to get easily to carriage paths for daily runs.

A great house for an extended family vacation

Left on 09/15/2011 for a stay in August 2011

This former bed and breakfast was perfect for a vacation with multiple families. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and there are several common spaces for watching television, playing games and reading books (and the house has a sizable collection of both games and books). The kitchen is well-equipped and the back porch is lovely. Hulls Cove is extremely convenient (a quick drive) to both the town of Bar Harbor and acadia National Park. We had several wonderful family dinners in the large dining room as well as several great meals in downtown Bar Harbor. The owner was there when we arrived and she clearly takes meticulous care of the house. She is also very friendly and helpful.

      Outstanding Vacation Rental

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We are a group of educators who travel together every summer. This home had everything you might want or need for a large group of people planning a week long stay in the Bar Harbor area. Having a bathroom for each bedroom was an excellent perk for our group. Everything in Melinda's home was in excellent condition and all the needs of her renters were considered. Melinda is a wonderful person to work with and made sure we felt at home. We would highly recommend this home in the Bar Harbor, Maine area for your next vacation.

      nice place - nice location

Left on 08/14/2011 for a stay in June 2011

fantastic time with family and friends on the bar harbor shore. College graduation for my son at the College of the atlantic and the home accomadated 12 family members. Dining was easy for a large group with a well apportioned kitchen and an outside porch. The owner was nice enough to ship out a few left behind items. Parking was ample for everyone.

      Family Time

Left on 08/11/2011 for a stay in June 2011

What a great week! Melinda's home was perfect for our family of three daughters, spouses and their children. The luxury of staying in one place all together was just what we had hoped for.
The children enjoyed sharing a room with their cousins, playing in the back yard and family meals together in the wonderful dining room.
Melinda anticipated all we could need; cooking supplies and linens. The home is well cared for and so clean.
Needless to say, we enjoyed Bar Harbor, but each evening when we returned "home" it just extended the fun of the day. By the way, mornings looking out of the kitchen window with a cup of coffee in hand...what could be better?

Thank you for a wonderful week.
