Description from the owner
I am the owner of this little apartment/studio with terrace located in Barcelona city centre, close to Barcelona's Gothic Cathedral, in the Old town Gothic area, which leads, in a few minutes, to some of the most important sights of Barcelona: the Borne area, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, Raval area, Santa Maria del Mar basilica, Picasso Museum, Barcelona Aquarium, etc…
The Old Port is only 10 minutes walk away, and the beaches are very close to it. So you will be able to get to know Barcelona without exhausting yourself.
Actually, all my visitors are very happy because they can reach almost all of the important monuments just b...y walking!
It is also extremely well-communicated by metro and bus. The nearest metro stop is in Jaume I street (L4 yellow bus line), close to Plaza Sant Jaume; the main square of the old city and still the administrative centre of Barcelona. There is also a Tourist Bus stop around the corner of the apartment, very practical to avoid the long queues that you will find at other stops.
The apartment is on a 4th floor (without elevator), with two beds or one double bed (twin beds) or only one bed if you prefer, as you can see in the pictures, and, on the roof of the apartment, a private terrace which is very important to have here in Barcelona because we have sun and nice weather almost all year around! It has parquet flooring, nice joists, has lots of daylight and is not facing the street, so it is very quiet. It’s ideal for one person or a couple who wants to enjoy living the style of the local folks, right downtown.
At the corner of the apartment, you will find the Santa Catalina's Market, the 2nd oldest in Barcelona. Inside you can find fresh food, a supermarket and also one of the best and known restaurants in Barcelona called Cuinas Santa Caterina.
Please note that my apartment is one of the few apartments with a legal touristic license, and therfore is complient with all security standards which garantees the tranquility and safety of your stay ;-)
Don't hesitate and contact me if you want to know something else.
And if you need a Spanish mobile phone during your stay, please let me know.
Have a nice day!

Fantastic city and the apartment is in a fantastic location!
We have just returned from a week in Barcelona, a really great destination and we stayed in Monica Ramos' apartment. From the start, Monica was very attentive and all the arrangements for the rental went very well. She arranged for pick up at the airport and met us just outside the apartment. She reviewed everything with us and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants. The apartment is tiny, but for our travels it was perfect. Barcelona is so fantastic, that we hardly spent any time in the apartment. The location was super great. When we were really tired, we sat on the terrace and enjoyed a glass of wine, looking out over the roof tops. The only thing that could be a drawback are the narrow stairs that you need to climb to get there. Of course, it is good to get some exercise after eating all the delicious tapas! Read more

Hola, thanks for your comment. I am glad to hear that you had an excellent experience in Barcelona and you appreciated my service,my tips, my apartment and the terace. I hope to see you again.
- Overall customer service
Cosy city-studio with a lovely terrasse.
The apartment is fully functional and well equipped. Monica, the owner is very helpful and caring. It is small though, (good for 1-2 persons) but we do not mind, being only the two of us, we spend most time in the city walking or at the private terrace. This is a perfect apartment for 1-2 persons who want to live in the middle of the city and walk everywhere. And you're be sure about a welcoming, good hand with Monica, caring for you to get the most out of Barcelona.
Thankyou Monica for this time. Read more

Good location, good price, good stay!
The level of service was really good, the lady was waiting for us at the bus stop on place de Catalunya and walked with us to the apartment. The place it self looked really romantic and cosy. The location couldn't have been better it's so close to the city center and all the tourist attractions. The only thing that was annoying was the stairs... all the steps are out of order.. But we got used to this! Read more

Love from a very warm Barcelona!
Lovely March visit to Barcelona at apartment in Old Town
My daughter, 18-years-old, and I (50-something)spent a lovely week at Monica's apartment. The apartment is very compact--perfect for two people. The bed is very comfortable, the water heater and apartment heat were very easy to manage and the kitchen was very efficient. Pretty much everything we needed was available (hair dryer, kitchen utensils, towels, stovetop, microwave, TV). The wireless availability was great--very strong signal and reliable, and worked in the apartment as well as the rooftop garden. The rooftop was such a bonus! It was sunny and warm during the day and our last evening we listened to music playing in Pla de la Seu, not too far away.
Can't say enough about the location, across from Mercado Santa Caterina, close to the yellow subway line and a short walk to Las Ramblas, the waterfront and Palau Musica. So convenient!
About the stairs, yes there are 72 (pretty steep and narrow) steps up to the apartment, but there are lots of stairs we climbed throughout Barcelona, so it kind of blended in and got less difficult by the end of the five days.
As a hostess, Monica was charming and helpful--recommending a fun and affordable Flamenco show, also a good restaurant (we ate there twice!). She was always available by cell, social media and email, and responded when we had any questions. It was nice to have a local contact to help plan our days.
Location is tops, comfortable and efficient. What a charming place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Barcelona who wants to stay near the center of everything.

Ideal location with everything you need
Monica's studio apartment was great for our 8-day stay. She was very accommodating with our delayed arrival, and meeting up with the taxi driver, Jorge, was easy. (He was a great source of information, by the way!) The apartment's location was ideal: right across the street from Santa Caterina Market, near the cathedral and a short walk to so many restaurants, shops, etc. The kitchen was stocked with dishes, utensils, etc. The wi-fi worked well, and the television and channel choices were nice when relaxing. The building was quiet and we rarely heard any noise from anyone in the building. The noise of the city was surprisingly removed from the apartment as well. Monica offered to come by a little over halfway through our stay and replace our towels and sheets if we wanted. There were plenty of blankets, pillows, sheets, and towels. No face cloths (washcloths) though.
The few drawbacks: The stairs. Don't underestimate them! There are 72 of them, they are narrow, and they are not all the same height. Monica's boyfriend carried one of our suitcases up when we checked in, and his help was very much appreciated! The shower curtain smelled quite musty, but when we mentioned it to Monica at checkout she said it would definitely be changed for the next guests, and she wished we had mentioned it during our stay. The studio had a bit of an odor: Monica said that previous guests had cooked fish, and though she and the cleaning lady had done their best, a slight odor still lingered. It wasn't noticeable if we had the heat on or the windows open, but when we first returned to the apartment at the end of the day, we could smell it. Not unbearable, by any stretch. Finally, my husband thought the bed wasn't the most comfortable, but I thought it was perfectly fine.
Monica is very eager for her guests to enjoy themselves and she's easy to contact while in the city. I'd definitely stay here again, but I'd work out for a month or two on a Stairmaster first! Read more
Response from Monica Ramos - 03/09/2014
I am glad you enjoyed staying at the apartment and had a pleasant and quiet time.
I am very sorry about the light smell that was still present on your first day and I really wish you had told me about the shower curtain as I really enjoy offering a spotless apartment to my guests. Finally, I deeply regret that your husband couldn't find a bed that fitted him perfectly even in my apratment after the bad experiences you told me he had in other places related to his size.
Most importantly, I am happy to hear that you might come back another time :-) You are very welcome.
Great location, clean, cosy, friendly - but you need to be in go
My husband and I spent 6 nights at Monica's apartment in late February and we enjoyed it very much! Monica is very friendly and helpful. We also used the cab driver's Jorge's services, and that was excellent too to get to and from the airport. We definitely recommend this apartment for people who, like us, like to be in the city centre, are independent in their travels, and are not looking for luxury but rather authentic city experiences (with their downsides too - e.g. old buildings in Barcelona are cold and a bit damp in winter and need a bit of time to warm up when you switch the heating on, hot water doesn't come from the faucet unless you switch the gas heating on etc.). If you're that type, you'll love the apartment. And, as mentioned in the descriptions, there is not lift, so you have to climb the floors up to the apartment (yes they are narrow, high, and there are a lot of them). For us, it was good daily exercise, but if you are not in shape, do not consider this apartment. As we knew about this, we had packed two small suitcases rather than one big one, and it was easy to take them up and down.
The apartment is located just near the excellent Mercat de Santa Caterina, from where you can buy excellent fresh produce as well as useful things like cooked chickpeas, pulses, and spinach, which you can easily use in your own cooking in the apartment :)
We walked a lot in Barcelona and it is very easy to have the apartment as a base and go from there in every direction. We also took one day trip to Sitges (lovely in winter) and did a walk in the Collserola woods (from Baixador de Vallvidrera to Tibidabo).
What else?? The apartment is very quiet and the bed is excellent. Also Monica has a useful folder with lots of info and restaurant recommendations. Thanks!

Hola! Thanks a lot for your review. I am glad you found my apartment convenient for your holiday in Barcelona and you loved and enjoyed your stay.
A beautiful location, a wonderful apartment.
This was a lovely apartment in a ideal location. Monica met us on arrival and gave us a very warm welcome, she provided us with all the relevant information we needed and gave us hints and tips about the city. She was extremely helpful and very friendly. I had organised via Monica for a taxi to pick us up from the airport and to take us back to the airport at the end of our holiday, Jorge was waiting for us as soon as we stepped off the plane so we got to the apartment within 20 minutes which was brilliant and he was very helpful with our luggage also.
The apartment itself is small but perfectly formed, the kitchen has all the utensils you could possibly need so you could take full advantage of the Santa Caterina market with its lovely fresh fish, meats and vegetables, this is literally just across the road. The bathroom also has everything you need along with a wonderful power shower which proved to be godsend as the weather was so hot and humid when we stayed, also after climbing all the steps to the apartment jumping under the cool shower was bliss! The large bed was so comfortable and after all the walking we did it was perfect after a long day to ease our aching limbs. The terrace is a sun trap so if you love the sunshine this is the apartment for you!
All in all we will definitely stay at Monica's apartment if we visit Barcelona again, I am hoping this will be sooner rather than later as I miss this vibrant city so much already! Thank you again Monica. x Read more

Monica was lovely and very helpful, even helping to book a restaurant for us. The flat is up some steep stairs but it is more than worth it for the roof terrace.

Have a nice summer!
We had a great time in Barcelona and chose an excellent place to stay, very well located in downtown Barcelona just few blocks away from las ramblas, passeig de gracia, the cathedral and gothic area, touristic bus stop was nearby, a beautiful market right in front of the appartment where we had breakfast every day. Monica is a lovely woman who explains carefully every little detail of the city, where to go and how to move from one place to other, she arrenged a taxi to pick us up from the airport, Jorge was there on time and was very kind and helpful. The appartment is perfect size for a couple, clean and has a magnificent terrace where you can lay down and enjoy a cold drink after a long sightseeing day. Definitely we'll stay there when we come back to Barcelona! Read more

Better be in great shape!
Monica is delightful - friendly and very eager to help make your stay successful. We did not find Jorge when we arrived at the airport. After looking for him for 25 minutes we took a taxi to the apartment. We had coffee nearby in the very nice market/cafeteria and waited just a few minutes for Monica who then took us up the the apartment. The location is very good and we felt safe in that part of town. The nearby markets, restaurant and proximity to many of the popular sights in Barcelona is pretty good. This is why I booked this apartment using Flipkey. However, the stairs going up to the apartment very narrow and steep - about 4 long flights. Handrails are not well attached to wall so be very careful. Don't forget anything in the apartment or you will be going back up those stairs again. The view from the apartment is other apartment windows or roofs - you have to keep the shutters together or people will be looking at you - uncomfortable when hot. The stairs to the rooftop deck are treacherous and I would only recommend going up there to those who are very sure-footed. The apartment is the tiniest studio apartment we have ever rented. As with the other guest comments it is efficient for the space - super compact and well outfitted for a couple but there is no place for anything after you arrive. 2 people each with a suitcase fill all the available space immediately. There are very few power plugs if you need to charge a phone or camera or use your laptop. You have to turn on the gas to heat the water before you get hot water to wash dishes or take a shower each time as it is not safe to leave the gas on. And the shower/tiny tub is very slippery and difficult to get in and out - no hand rail. We loved Barcelona and I would visit again. We are not elderly people, are in pretty good shape, (mid 50s) but beware of renting this apartment if you are not in very good physical shape and good health. It's a challenge. I would not rent again, unfortunately. Read more

I am glad you found my welcome pleasant and useful, and I am very happy that you enjoyed Barcelona :-)
I am sorry that you couldn't meet Jorge at the airport. He arrived as usual a little before the time you were supposed to land, but as your plane arrived 45 minutes in advance, you had already left the airport at the time he was supposed to meet you. I wish you had called me when you arrived and couldn't find him and not when you had already left the airport in another taxi as we could have arranged it in a matter of minutes.
I am also very sorry you didn't seem to enjoy my apartment.
I don't quite understand the expectations you seemed to have though, as you could see the pictures of the apartment on the website and read the complete description done by me and by all the guests who stayed there.
Regarding the other points you are raising:
There is only one building with 2 apartments from which people might see something through the window, and by it's location and if they wanted to look, they wouldn't be able to see more than a tiny corner of the apartment.
The water heater is perfectly secure and it is inspected and maintained on a regular basis by the gas company. As I explained to you, the only reason some people do prefer to switch it off on nights, is that the apartment is so quiet that you can sometimes hear the faint noise the flame is making.
As for the stairs, they are very typical of the ancient buildings in Barcelona Old Town area. And being myself a massage therapist, I also noticed that you seemed to have a slight mobility issue with your leg or hip, and I wish you had let me know this in advance as I would probably have advised you to look for a less central and more modern and big acomodation.
I still hope that your stay was pleasant overall, and that you will come to Barcelona again, even if it is in a different location.
We had a great trip to Barcelona and enjoyed staying in this apartment for 3 nights. Whilst compact, it had the wonderful roof terrace to sit out in the sun and have a drink early evening after a day's sightseeing. The apartment itself is clean, comfortable and in a brilliant location close to the old Cathedral and the tourist bus stop.Like the previous reviewers we were met by Jorge and his taxi at the airport who was friendly and helpful and the Evgeni at the apartment who again friendly and full of advice about where to go. So the whole holiday ran very smoothly and the apartment made us feel that we were part of the real Barcelona. Read more

Evgueni, Jorge and myself are happy that you enjoyed your stay in our city. I hope to meet you personally next time! I was outsite the city :-(
The best thing about using the apartment was the help given. Great communication. A taxi driver was arranged for us and Jorge turned out to be the most delightful and reliable man. He picked us up at the airport and after our stay he took us to our train station. Monica was overseas but her friend Evgueni met us at the apartment with lots of helpful information. The location is perfect. It is very quiet. The restaurant a few steps away next to the market is outstanding. It is multicultural and you could eat there every night. We also ate at places recommended by previous guests and they were great. We are in our sixties and quite fit so the stairs were manageable and good exercise for us. Some people might find them difficult. We had easy luggage to carry up. We had poor weather unfortunately but the location meant that we could get out and about with our umbrella because things were so close. This apartment is not for those who want a modern boring five star hotel. It is an authentic experience in the heart of old Barcelona. Read more

Primo access Barcelona
Starting with the personal welcome by Monica, complete with comprehensive explanation of sights and transportation (and how to make great coffee for the morning "jump start"), this centrally located apartment was more than we had hoped for our week+ in Barcelona. Great apartement with top value
This was the 5. time my vife and I visit Barcelona for a short holiday but the first time we stayed at Monicas appartement. We have stayed at other very good appartements in central Barcelona but we have never stayed at a place that delivered so much value for the rent. The location is of course perfect in every aspect - situated in the most charming part of the city, close to lots of restaurants, markeds and shops. The apartment it self is big enough for a couple, with all you need and then there is the roof-terrace, where we spend most of the afternoons enjoying the warm sun :-). Last but not least Monica gave us af very varm welcome and introduction to the apparent, that made us feel at home right from the start. We will definitely choose Monicas appartement when we return to Barcelona next time. Read more

Muchas gracias!! I fell very happy with you comment: thanks and I really hope to see you again!
Lovely flat in an unbeatable location made us feel so welcome!
Where to start? The flat itself was great, bed was comfy, everything's clean etc. Small things like wireless and speakers were a plus.
The kitchen is great, which was essential given the flat's perfect location. Across the road is the Mercado Santa Caterina, a lovely and vibrant market with great food that necessitates a kitchen! Also really near La Rambla, El Born, and the beach.
We were welcomed so well by our lovely hostess, Monica. Loads of recommendations so whether this is your first trip to Barca or you're a seasoned Catalonian, she will have plenty tips for you. Bring your appetite... We were lucky enough to arrive at the start of a wine festival.
Terrace was big and roomy. We brits recommend reading your book with cuppa.
Stairs: Yes there are a couple of flights. So long as your legs are in even tolerable shape you will be just fine.
Almost forgot, the air conditioning works like a charm.

The jewel of our holiday
Barcelona, Monica and her apartment are all wonderful!! It is so well located - walk anywhere - lots of restaurants nearby as well as the Santa Caterina markets for fresh produce. Monica was so helpful with information about Barcelona, suggestions on things to do, maps and general advice. The apartment is smallish sure, but so are all apartments in that area, and you also have the upstairs patio to relax on. However it is very comfortable (great bed, slept like logs!) with everything you need. Highly recommended Read more

Wonderful place in a wonderful city
We stayed four nights here and loved it. We had been to Barcelona before and immediately wanted to return and have our own space for food and cooking. (although we didn't end up cooking). The location is outstanding and we found the Santa Caterina Mercat easier to shop in than the Boqueria.
The apartment is cozy, clean and well stocked. It's true there are a lot of steps, but we only went in and out a couple of times a day. What I did not expect was how quiet it was, as it doesn't face the street. You hear some noise, but it's nothing like the hotel we stayed in.
Monica is great. She met us right on time and insisted on carrying my wife's bag up the stairs. We were arranging check out and told her we were moving to a hotel for our last night, she said "Why?!" and offered us her last minute price for one more night. She also helped us work out how to get to Estacio Sants and arranged a flat-rate taxi for our trip back to the airport.
We will be back in Barcelona some day and we will stay at Monica's place again, even if we have to arrange our whole trip around her availability! Read more

Hello G and A,
I feel very happy reading your review. It is a pleasure to read you felt so well in my city, in my apartment and with my service. I really hope you come back in the future. See you next time :-)
Awesome apartment - great location
My husband and I stayed in Monica's apartment for five nights at the beginning of October. Overall, we had a great experience.
The location is perfect: close to transit, walking distance to the beach and many other restaurants, markets and attractions. The two main tourist buses stop just a block away if you like the hop on/hop off tours.
The apartment is lovely - the kitchen is well-appointed and there was more than enough room for my husband and I. The building is quiet and very little outside noise could be heard at night. But, the best part was the private terrace. This feature sold me on the place and it did not disappoint. It was nice to have a quiet outdoor space to enjoy a glass of wine or three in the evenings.
The only drawback to the apartment is that it is located on the fourth floor - the top floor of the building - and there is no elevator. I got used to it after a couple of days and enjoyed the effect the climb had on my thighs. However, if you aren't used to climbing stairs, it can be difficult.
But, if you can put the stair issue aside, you have a fabulous time. And Monica is very welcoming and so fantastic. She really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay in Barcelona; she offered many suggestions which we truly appreciated. She even arranged a taxi to pick us up and drop us off as our suitcases had gotten very heavy over the course of our travels.
We would stay here again and I highly recommend this apartment if you are planning a trip to Barcelona. Read more

My friend and I are studying abroad in Spain and we went to Barcelona for a long weekend. We stayed at Monica's apartment and it was the best decision of the trip. We were picked up at the airport and brought straight to the apartment by her friend. She told us everything we needed to know about the city: places to eat, where we should feel safe/where we needed to be more careful. The apartment is cute and cozy with a kitchen that already has coffee, hot chocolate, tea, bottled water. We felt safe and were more than comfortable. We were very close to the cathedral so there were lots of places to eat nearby and it was easy to take cabs when we went out at night. Very clean! Read more

All prior communication with Monica before arriving in Barcelona was very prompt, professional and precise. We then met Monica on the day we checked in near the apartment and she gave us the run down on all appliances and how everything worked, this took 20 mins at most but was most useful.
The actual apartment itself is very beautiful, the bed very comfortable, has air conditioning, fridge , cooker, microwave, stereo ( iPod compatible ) Tv and DVD. Other guests have leave a lot of local guidebooks and recommendations for nearby pubs and restaurants.
The best part of the apartment however is the roof terrace, its very spacious with 2 sun-loungers and 4 other seats and we spent at least 2 hours there every night when we got back to the apartment, its also an excellent place for drying any laundry if you are on an extended stay.
The only downside of the apartment for us was the steep stairs ( 4th floor apartment ) but the roof terrace made up for this and I wouldn't let it put anyone off at all, however anyone with a mobility disability or very overweight must bear this in mind.
Nearby the apartment there is a taxi rank 1 min walk away, an aTM 30 sec walk away and a stop for the Barcelona Bus Turistic right beside the taxi rank. The Metro stop Jaume is approx 5 mins walk from the apartment also.
There are loads of restaurants and cafes nearby, our favorite area was around El Born and Carrer d'Allada Vermell but between the beach at Barceloneta and the apartment there are loads of cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from.
The nearby Santa Caterina Market is superb also and I sticked up on Chorizo and Fuet from here before flying home.
Would highly recommended this apartment to anyone and it's very good value also. Read more

3 Day Stay in Barcelona
My wife and I (mid-twenties) stayed in Monica's apartment for three days. The apartment had an awesome location with close proximity to shopping (my wife), great restaurants, the beach, and la rambla. You could really walk everywhere (though I wouldn't recommend walking to Sagrada Familia). The apartment is very nice and has everything you would need for a stay. The kitchen appeared fully equipped though we didn't use it because we preferred to eat out. The terrace was also great, and a nice place to have coffee or a drink. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone with a handicap, since it is up five flights of stairs, which is really the only negative about this place. Monica, the owner, was an awesome resource on places to eat for us. We had studied in Barcelona and weren't too interested in seeing the sights so we tried out most of the restaurants that she recommended and they were all great! I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to Barcelona. When we return we will certainly be staying here again. Read more

Yesterday I found another amazing place to recommend my guests :-)
See you next time, hasta pronto
We have just spent an amazing 5 days in Monica's apartment and cannot rate it highly enough. We landed at 4pm,jumped on the aerobus and were enjoying a coffee by the market by 4.35.
The apartment has everything you need and I mean everything!
We were eager to prepare meals with ingredients from the market and this was made so much easier by the salt, sugar olive oil, coffee, tea, vinegar etc supplied by Monica.
We had great fun sightseeing and then having a siesta on the beach.Monica has the knack of reading her guests and recommending things to their taste. We followed up 4 of her reccomendations and enjoyed them all.
It was a lovely holiday
What about those stairs??? The first time up them is the worst!! But remember without the stairs you wouldnt have a roof terrace would you?
We are about to book the apartment for next year so please Monica dont throw the beach umbrella away !

Fantastic Location in great neighborhood
Fantastic location in amazing neighborhood where it felt safe and easy to walk to all major attractions including La Rambla. It is also in the middle of town so taxis were easy to find and reasonably priced to everywhere. Our hostess was super accomodating and went completely out of her way for us when needed. She was even willing to assist with finding contacts for a school project which was fantastico!! Our only complaint is that the apartment is on the fifth floor and does not have an elevator. The steep stairs were slightly scary to navigate up and down with large luggage. However, Monica was such a great hostess that she was more than willing to come and lend us a hand during both check-in and check-out! Muchas Gracias!!! Read more

So much to like about this apartment. Quiet, centrally located around the corner from the Palais de Musica, only a short walk to everything (and about 40 minutes walk to the Sagrada Familia), very comfortable and stocked with everything you need to be self sufficient. Our host, Monica, was very accommodating and helpful. Her tips on best Tapas bars are not to be ignored. Looking forward to returning. Read more

My Husband and I had a fabulous week in Barcelona, staying at Monicas apartment made it an even better experience. The apartment is compact but spotlessly clean, it is equipped with everything you need and the roof terrace is really quiet and peaceful even though you

Great apartment, Wonderful Hostess, Great Location
Monica's terrace apartment is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Barcelona. It's pretty and comfortable (although you have to climb a lot of stairs to get there!) and at the center of everything-- and Monica was a great help. Check in and check-out were on time and helpful. A computer problem was quickly solved for us. She recommended a great restaurant for the best meal we had in Spain. The apartment is just across from the Santa Caterina market, so shopping for food was easy and fun. Also close to the Picasso Museum and the Cathedrals. In fact, we walked just about everywhere in Barcelona from the apartment. The terrace is wonderful, night and day, and the apartment is blessed by nearly absolute quiet, so sleeping in after a day spent walking and a night spent wandering is easy. Great place, highly recommended. Read more

Best Location for Walking Barcelona
This charming apartment is quiet, spotless and located steps from the second oldest market in Barcelona. It is a perfect spot to walk to all the sites and metro. Monica is like having a friend in town. She had a local mobile phone for us to use and remained in contact throughout our week to assure we were having a good time. Her restaurant recommendations were fantastic and her book from previous guests was filled with helpful tips. The 72 steps to the apartment are not for the fainthearted. But once there the rooftop terrace offers a perfect rest. Thank you Monica! Read more

A real Gem!
The apartment is excellent - very clean, comfortable and quiet. Although quite small, everything you need is there for self-catering. The roof terrace is perfect for dining and chilling and the wi-fi link was an added bonus. The location is perfect for all the sites - just step out onto the side street and soak up the atmosphere. Monica was extremely helpful. Would thoroughly recommend - if you are fit enough to climb to the fourth floor! Read more

Everything you want for a perfect Barcelona getaway
There are so many positives to this location, it's hard to fit in one review! My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Monica's apartment in august.
The first thing to mention is the location - absolutely ideal You're near several major metro stops (as well as a block away from the stops for the tourists buses), but not right next to them. The same goes for the Ramblas - an interesting/lively place, but not one I would want to be staying directly on - you're an easy 3-5 block walk from that craziness, which makes for peace and quiet when you want it. You're also right across the street from the bustling Mercat Santa Caterina - which is a great place to pick up food to cook in the small but perfect kitchen, equipped with gas stove, mini fridge and microwave, inside the apartment. Monica makes sure it is stocked with basic cooking utensils and supplies. The building is very quiet, too.
The apartment has wardrobe space, a table, and even an iPod dock for music, as well as a TV and WiFi access. But the real star is the terrace, with its sun loungers and table where you can have a romantic dinner, sunbathe, or stargaze, all while catching a nice breeze.
When you arrive, Monica and her partner will greet you and spend some time giving you some great tips about anything you want to know about, with a vast knowledge of the city. I really recommend you follow what they have to say as well as checking out the guest book for tips from past occupants!
The only negative - the stairs. This is only a problem if you are handicapped, or aren't in reasonably good shape. We had no problem handling them, and, if you aren't scared of a few flights of stairs, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to you. After so much delicious food, we viewed the stairs as a positive bit of workout!
In short I would recommend this apartment to almost any couple, without a second thought, and my wife and I can't wait to return and visit Monica's place again.

Great value, great location, comfortable room
We were in Barcelona for two weeks, and we spent our first week in this room. It is very cozy, clean, and comfortable. The owners were extremely helpful, friendly and reliable. We took advantage of the beautiful Sant Catarina market across the street, the organic grocery around the corner and the small, but very adequate kitchen in the apartment to make our meals the first week. My only regret is that the room was already booked for our second week! From here, you can easily walk to the beach, all around the Barri Gotic, and to Plaza Catalunya. It really was just the perfect place for us. Read more

Heaven is an apartment in Barcelona
Harrison my 13 year old son and I stayed at Monica's apartment for 10 wonderful days. Monica arranged for us to check in mid morning after an early flight from the UK. The apartment was a haven of peace and tranquility. The first thing I wanted was a cup of coffee so it was wonderful that the apartment already had everything I needed. In the heat of the day the place remains cool. we didn't have much need for the air conditioning which conveniently was very quite. Monica's apartment felt really homely. If you needed information about anything Monica has supplied it. It was really insightful to be able to read tips and idea's from previous guests too.
Having a large private roof terrace was fantastic. Sun loungers, table and chairs with sun canopy confirmed that Monica wants all her guests to feel pampered.
The apartment is in an ideal location close to all the major attraction. The Picasso museum or La Rambla only a few minutes walk away.
Once you have stayed at Monica's apartment I promise you will want to come back again and to tell all of your friends.
Congratulations Monica on providing a wonderful apartment at a really great rate. Read more

Like a home from home
The whole experience of visiting Barcelona for the first time was made so inviting by Monica. Her instructions were easy to follow and she went out of her way to meet us earlier so that we we could deposit our bags in the lovely apartment. The apartment was clean and so comfortable. Everything had been thought about with the vistor in mind. The split level room that housed the kitchen dining and lounge area was separated from the bedroom area with a step up level with drape divide. You felt at home, you felt at ease and relaxed. The bathroom was compact but had everything you would require while on vacation.
Monica has gone to a great deal of effort to make the apartment appealing and practical and it works really well.
I really liked the added touch of the two information boxes that were in the apartment. Not only did Monica provide us with a huge amount of information when we arrived on where to go, how to get there, where to eat and what to see, but these boxes contained so much information regarding what not to miss while you are in Barcelona and also recommendations from previous guests and were really helpful and interesting. The added bonus with this apartment was that it had its own rooftop area that was ideal for having breakfast or relaxing after a hard days sightseeing around Barcelona. It was very quiet but you needed to be okay with climbing stairs as it is at the top of the property. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this apartment if you are going to Barcelona. Read more

I am very grateful for your review, thank you very much! I really like it when my guests enjoy our beautiful city and my cozy apartment!!
All the best,
Much better than any hotel!
There is a reason this apartment is the top rated rental in Barcelona. My husband and I stayed here for our 3rd wedding anniversary this april, and couldn't be happier with the choice.
The apartment is located right across from the Catarina Market and direclty across the street from the gothic Cathedral, and the whole old town area. It is also right next to a cab pick-up and a Barcelona Bus Touristic stop(the hop-on, hop-off tourist bus) which is so convenient to get around the city. The market has plenty of stuff to buy to keep in the little fridge in the apartment for a quick breakfast before setting out for the day!
Monica is so nice and helpful and check-in was very easy and quick. She has all kinds of recommendations on hotels, things to do, places to see etc., all easily accessed in her apartment guide book! The apartment is very quiet at night and the bed (which can either be two twins, or a king) is super comfy. I am so glad my husband and I booked Monica's apartment over any hotel. I don't think we would have been able to experience Barcelona like we wanted to: in a cute little apartment, among locals, in the old town. No hotel would have offered us that, and it was cheaper and a better experience than a hotel!
Thanks Monica! We will never forget our trip to Barcelona! Read more

Quaint little apartment in a perfect location
This apartment was a romantic delight.
I would recommend it to anyone desiring a cozy, authentic, quaint experience in the loveliest part of the city.
From the apartment, my girlfriend and I were 5 minutes walk from Picasso Museum, Barrio Gotic... 15 minutes from Raval, 30 minutes from Sagrada Familia, 45 minutes walk from Parc Guell. The walks were all lovely! Separately, there is an amazing coffee and tapas place right across the street that opens early and stays open relatively late.
After my girl left, I stayed for a business conference. The place is a short cab to the Fira and there is a commercial printer across the street!!! More convenient and affordable than FedEx Kinkos!
The only negative would be for anyone disabled. The apartment is a fourth floor walk up. Read more

A Cozy Hideaway in a Great Location
This flat was fabulously located just two blocks from the cathedral (where we saw the Pope when he was in Barcelona to consecrate Segrada Familia) and not even a block from the magnificent produce, meat, fish and cheese array of Santa Caterina Marketplace.
While the climb of 4 flights of stairs maybe challenging for some, the payoff is a romantic gem of a rooftop terrace that overlooks the neighborhood where there is complete privacy and no street noise. We would cap our long day of walking the streets of Barcelona (the apt is in the Gothic Quarter so the neighbor is architecturally rich with homes, churches and restaurants that vie for your attention to their detailed facades) with a glass of wine r some dessert as we reflected on the day that was or the one that was yet to be.
The Tapas Bar in Santa Caterina Marketplace is a very good and reasonable priced eatery, which makes it popular among locals as well as tourists, so be prepared to wait. We were lucky to get seated relatively quickly, maybe a 5 or 10 minute wait, by being willing to sit at the tapas serving bar, rather than waiting for a table. It's the same great food, so who cares?
I would go back to this apt in a minute if given the chance again.. Read more

Quiet, yet central.
Facing away from the street, the apartment is surprisingly quiet, despite being only two minutes from the Mercado de Santa Catarina. We had no difficulty with the steps leading to the apartment, but they are steep and probably not ideal for some people. Monica, the owner was very helpful in arranging our visit. Superb central location
Stayed in this apartment for one week in November. The central location made it a perfect base to explore Barcelona easily. The apartment is very small but extremely well equipped and comfortable. It was also suprisingly quiet at night. The Santa Caterina market is about two minutes away from the apartment and has a wonderful array of food - much closer and less hectic than Boqueria market. We were lucky enough with the weather to make use of the terrace area above the apartment - lots of space to sit and relax or simply just air clothes! Monica was flexible with our check-in and check-out times and gave us useful tips for exploring the city. The four flights of stairs up to the apartment were a good way to help burn off all the tapas!! Read more

We felt like members of the Barcelona community
The location of this apartment is 60 meters from an amazing mercado (market), 2 blocks from the rococco Music Palace (don't miss!), 3 blocks from the Ramblas, a block from the cathedral, and around the corner from charming, creative little shops, some run by craftspeople who both work and sell in them. We found Monica and her assistant to be wonderfully helpful both before and during our stay, even setting us up for a New Year's Eve event and a cell phone. The small apartment has pretty much just what you need, including kitchen supplies, with nothing extra. We counted 71 steps up from the street, so if this is an issue for you, choose some other place. If you're in reasonably good shape, it's free gym. Read more

We really enjoyed meeting Monica and renting her apartment. Having WiFi let us keep in touch with family and friends. It was within walking distance of most of the major sights in Barcelona and right next to the market where we were able to buy fresh food every day. What a treat to have warm bread just from the oven. Our favourite activity was the tour of the Palau de la Musica Catlana which is just a few blocks from the apartment. Not only is the building beautiful but we were able to able a concert as well. There were no problems with check in and check out. We were able to walk to the Plaza Catalunya to catch the bus to the airport. Some people have complained about the 71 steps to the apartment but having the roof top terrace made it worth every step. Rooftop hideaway in the Gothic Quarter
The appartment is in a fabulous location, just a few steps away from the Fruit & Vegetable Market and across the main road to the Cathederal Square. You can walk around all the little old streets and explore the different quarters on foot. There is excellent access to public transport and it is easy to feel like you are finding out what it's like to live in Barcelona.
Monica is very helpful at pointing you in the right direction for what you need to know to find your way around.
The appartment is a delightful hideaway on the top floor of the building with the terrace offering a rooftop expanse of the skyline of the other appartments and buildings in the neighbourhood.
It is well equipped, basic essentials are provided (coffee, oil, vinegar). Bedlinen and towels were clean and the appartment was in a very good condition. The air-conditioning unit and an internet connection were welcome ammenities.

Though the studio is quite small it is so well kitted out that everything you could possibly need is there and it is very clean. It is so quiet at night that you can get a proper night's sleep - only small downside is that there are two single matresses instead of a double one. However, with the location and the wonderful roof terrace I would thoroughly recommend it. Monica responded promptly to all e-mails, met us at the agreed time, made sure everything was in order and she is very nice and friendly. Read more

It was like living in Barcelona.
Monica was kind enough to meet us although we arrived after 9PM. She didn't just hand over the keys but explained everything about the apartment and then gave great advice about how to enjoy her city. (BTW: All the Barcelonés we me were very proud of their city and wanted to help us enjoy our stay.)
Loved: location (in Barri Gottic, very quiet), terrace for breakfast and afternoon cocktail, quaintness, Monica
So-So: small shower with not much water pressure, view from terrace,
Pain in the @#!%: stairs (we counted 72)
Barcelona: We loved it, wanna live there someday. Sensory overload from architecture, food, music ... and an underlying, all-pervasive cool vibe. Read more

Excellent location, house and manager
My friend and I (both in our late 20s) stayed in Monica's flat for four days in March 2010. Monica was great about communicating via email and phone, very available during our stay, and provided a ton of valuable information about the area with excellent insider tips on places to eat.
After walking up four flights of narrow steps (not for those with bad knees or difficulty with steps), we entered a lovely, cosy space which provided a perfect homebase for our stay. The apartment is small but well furnished and the terrace provides a wonderful extension to the space allowing us to be outside but in the calm of the house. We only used the heater (too cold for A/C) and it worked perfectly. The shower is small but has good water pressure and the whole apartment is very clean. The kitchen is fully furnished for cooking with not just dishes and utensils but also basic food supplies. The house is very conveniently located to the metro, a taxi stand, and all major tourist and local neighborhoods and sites in Barcelona. We felt very safe both during the day and at night walking home.
I highly recommend this home. I cannot speak highly enough of Monica. She helped us experience the local scene and feel a little more like locals. The only consideration you should have is your ability to walk up the steps. We didn't have a problem but I can understand that they may be a little steep and long for some.
Lovely flat with great location
We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely, tiny apartment in the heart of Old Town. Just perfect location! Flat was cozy, warm (even in winter) and beautiful with everything you can need during your stay. I can imagine how lovely it would be to sip a cold drink in the rooftop terrace on a hot summer day. Bedlinen and towels were a bit worn but clean, and the flat itself was spotless. As mentioned in previous comments, the only slight minus is that you have to climb lots and lots of narrow stairs to get to the flat - but on the other hand the flat was very quiet. Would definately recommend and will go back when I next time visit Barcelona - hopefully soon!
Lovely apartment in a great location
Can't speak highly enough of this apartment and the
service we received from Monica. As long as you can
handle a really tough set of stairs up to the
apartment, its otherwise hard to fault.
Correspondence with Monica throughout was very well
handled. She replied swiftly to emails, gave lots
of useful info on how to get to the apartment and
arrived to meet us there on time. She then gave us
a thorough guide of how everything worked, as well
as all the other info we needed (local shops, bars,
personal security etc).
The apartment really is lovely - beams on the
ceiling, wooden floors: really rustic and well
presented. It's not the biggest, but more than
adequate for two. The heating works really well and
it has full cooker, plus toaster, m/wave etc (but
no grill). The food market just opposite is
fantastic too, while the apartment has the basics -
The bathroom is small but functional - tiny bath,
but the shower works well enough. Again, no
complaints. The lounge has TV/stereo/dining table.
I was there with my partner working at a
conference, so relied on the internet - it was
wired, so I'm not sure you could get more machine
going at once, but it worked without a hitch.
It was mostly raining while we were there, but we
did go on the terrace once for lunch. It's quite
nice, but has no views to speak of and no privacy.
Would be a nice bonus in good weather though, for
The area is perfect. It's the heart of the old
town, so great for strolling around. Jaume I is the
nearest metro, but we tended to wander up to
Catalunya as its a nice route and very well
connected. The Ramblas is a lovely and short walk
away, maybe 10 mins, and there are countless great
bars and restaurants around.
I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone
who can manage a very steep, pretty thin staircase,
and we certainly intend to come back and stay here
again in future. It's a great starting point to see
this amazing city.

I had a great stay in this cozy, well-located apartment.
I had a great stay in this cozy, well-located apartment. Monica and her husband were extremely helpful and accommodating, and generous with their assistance and time. It's clear that they treat their guests as future friends.
The apartment itself is small by American standards, but it has everything that you need, and more importantly it is in a great location, because you didn't come to Barcelona to sit in the room. However, when you are there, you appreciate the homey touches like the art, painted walls, cookware, etc..
Location-wise, Barcelona is a compact city, and the location of the apartment puts you in walking distance of everything, if you are a walker, and if you aren't the public transit systems gets you where you need to go. But there is something very re-assuring about having a home base that is well-positioned on the map so as to give you a good center.
Others have mentioned the stairs, so nothing more to add about that. The patio is great when the weather is, too.
All in all, I recommend this place for the value, location, and terrific service! Read more

Couple in their 40's
Great location - lovely terrace - nice apartment
Nice and cosy apartment, perfect place for couples. Not a lot of space in the apartment, but very well organised, and contains everything you could possibly need for a holiday. The private rooftop terrace is great, for example for some quiet moments after hectic days in the city. The only persons who probably should not book are people who has bad legs, because of a lot of steps. For everyone else: It’s great! Read more

Thanks Anne for your comment! Hope se you again soon! Monica
delightful, comfortable and charming
I only hesitate to give this a full 5-star recommendation because of the 71-step walkup, which might be intimidating to some. The place is to our taste, very well located, exceptionally clean and comfortable. I was delighted to find professionally laundered, hotel-quality linens. The shower had exceptionally good water pressure by European standards. The terrace was a great breakfast spot. Monica is a gracious and helpful landlady. I hope to stay here again. Read more

Lovely apartment (as long as you are reasonably fit)
This is a relatively small apartment, consisting of one good-sized room
divided into a sleeping area by the window and a kitchen / sitting area nearer
the door. There is a small but adequate en-suite bathroom. You also have
private access to a rooftop terrace. The apartment is nicely decorated and well
maintained. Ideal for one or two people.
The location is wonderful - close to the old cathedral within an area of small
streets, squares and cafes, with a terrific market nearby. Ten or 15 minutes
walk from La Rambla.
Monika looked after us very well. The only thing to be aware of is that there
are 71 steps up from the entrance door to the apartment, with another 8 or 10
to the terrace. If you are in reasonable shape, the stairs should not be a
problem, but it is something to be aware of. Read more

A lovely nest in the center of the city
I stayed at this apartment for a whole month and absolutely loved it. It's located in the very center of Barcelona, in the Old Town. Around 100 meters from the Cathedral, and very close to the Urqinaona metro station, but the apartment itself is silent and peaceful. You can feel yourself completly detached from the noise of the busy city. I was amazed on how well I felt when staying there.
And the private terrace was like a nest where I could relax.
There is also a very good market 30 meters away where I used to get fresh fruit, and also a very nice restaurant at the corner.
All in all, it was a fantastic stay, and I wish I could have stayed longer. Read more
