I am the owner of this little apartment/studio with terrace located in Barcelona city centre, close to Barcelona's Gothic Cathedral, in the Old town Gothic area, which leads, in a few minutes, to some of the most important sights of Barcelona: the Borne area, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, Raval area, Santa Maria del Mar basilica, Picasso Museum, Barcelona Aquarium, etc…
The Old Port is only 10 minutes walk away, and the beaches are very close to it. So you will be able to get to know Barcelona without exhausting yourself.

All my clients are very happy because they can reach almost all the important places, just by walking! so you won't need any bus, metro or taxi!!!
About 10 minutes walking, you will reach the Old Port. The beaches are very near from Old Port.
At the corner of the apartment, there is the Santa Catalina Market, the 2nd oldest in Barcelona. Inside you can find fresh food, a big supermarket and also one of the best and know restaurant in Barcelona called Cuinas Santa Caterina.
My apartment is small but with all the necessary to feel like at home: you will feel very comfortable and happy with your decision about have rented it!

Starting with the personal welcome by Monica, complete with comprehensive explanation of sights and transportation (and how to make great coffee for the morning "jump start"), this centrally located apartment was more than we had hoped for our week+ in Barcelona. Not too large and not too small, it was the perfect size for us; we especially enjoyed the Terrace in the late afternoon while relaxing before the evening's activities.
When we return, we'll stay here!Response from Monica Ramos - 05/21/2013

This was the 5. time my vife and I visit Barcelona for a short holiday but the first time we stayed at Monicas appartement. We have stayed at other very good appartements in central Barcelona but we have never stayed at a place that delivered so much value for the rent. The location is of course perfect in every aspect - situated in the most charming part of the city, close to lots of restaurants, markeds and shops. The apartment it self is big enough for a couple, with all you need and then there is the roof-terrace, where we spend most of the afternoons enjoying the warm sun :-). Last but not least Monica gave us af very varm welcome and introduction to the apparent, that made us feel at home right from the start. We will definitely choose Monicas appartement when we return to Barcelona next time.

LondonLovely flat in an unbeatable location made us feel so welcome!
Left on 01/14/2013 for a stay in June 2012
Where to start? The flat itself was great, bed was comfy, everything's clean etc. Small things like wireless and speakers were a plus.
The kitchen is great, which was essential given the flat's perfect location. Across the road is the Mercado Santa Caterina, a lovely and vibrant market with great food that necessitates a kitchen! Also really near La Rambla, El Born, and the beach.
We were welcomed so well by our lovely hostess, Monica. Loads of recommendations so whether this is your first trip to Barca or you're a seasoned Catalonian, she will have plenty tips for you. Bring your appetite... We were lucky enough to arrive at the start of a wine festival.
Terrace was big and roomy. We brits recommend reading your book with cuppa.
Stairs: Yes there are a couple of flights. So long as your legs are in even tolerable shape you will be just fine.
Almost forgot, the air conditioning works like a charm.
Cheers

Barcelona, Monica and her apartment are all wonderful!! It is so well located - walk anywhere - lots of restaurants nearby as well as the Santa Caterina markets for fresh produce. Monica was so helpful with information about Barcelona, suggestions on things to do, maps and general advice. The apartment is smallish sure, but so are all apartments in that area, and you also have the upstairs patio to relax on. However it is very comfortable (great bed, slept like logs!) with everything you need. Highly recommended

Left on 11/07/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We stayed four nights here and loved it. We had been to Barcelona before and immediately wanted to return and have our own space for food and cooking. (although we didn't end up cooking). The location is outstanding and we found the Santa Caterina Mercat easier to shop in than the Boqueria.
The apartment is cozy, clean and well stocked. It's true there are a lot of steps, but we only went in and out a couple of times a day. What I did not expect was how quiet it was, as it doesn't face the street. You hear some noise, but it's nothing like the hotel we stayed in.
Monica is great. She met us right on time and insisted on carrying my wife's bag up the stairs. We were arranging check out and told her we were moving to a hotel for our last night, she said "Why?!" and offered us her last minute price for one more night. She also helped us work out how to get to Estacio Sants and arranged a flat-rate taxi for our trip back to the airport.
We will be back in Barcelona some day and we will stay at Monica's place again, even if we have to arrange our whole trip around her availability!Response from Monica Ramos - 11/13/2012

CanadaAwesome apartment - great location
Left on 11/02/2012 for a stay in October 2012
My husband and I stayed in Monica's apartment for five nights at the beginning of October. Overall, we had a great experience.
The location is perfect: close to transit, walking distance to the beach and many other restaurants, markets and attractions. The two main tourist buses stop just a block away if you like the hop on/hop off tours.
The apartment is lovely - the kitchen is well-appointed and there was more than enough room for my husband and I. The building is quiet and very little outside noise could be heard at night. But, the best part was the private terrace. This feature sold me on the place and it did not disappoint. It was nice to have a quiet outdoor space to enjoy a glass of wine or three in the evenings.
The only drawback to the apartment is that it is located on the fourth floor - the top floor of the building - and there is no elevator. I got used to it after a couple of days and enjoyed the effect the climb had on my thighs. However, if you aren't used to climbing stairs, it can be difficult.
But, if you can put the stair issue aside, you have a fabulous time. And Monica is very welcoming and so fantastic. She really wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay in Barcelona; she offered many suggestions which we truly appreciated. She even arranged a taxi to pick us up and drop us off as our suitcases had gotten very heavy over the course of our travels.
We would stay here again and I highly recommend this apartment if you are planning a trip to Barcelona.Response from Monica Ramos - 11/13/2012

Left on 11/02/2012 for a stay in October 2012
Brilliant location and info from Monica. Stairs were difficult especially with cases. Apartment was very cosy and full of character but cold on some nights, also smelled damp and not sure about the safety of the electrics and boiler! Everywhere was very clean, the shower was great, but the very flat pillows and single sheets didn't make for a comfortable night's sleep. Having read all the other 5 out of 5 reviews we were a little disappointed with the actual apartment but not the location.

Thanks to take your time to write this comment.
It was a pitty you didn't use the heating or open the wardrobe and take a blanket or a duvet because of course there are there for my guests and this is always part of the information I give to customers. You didn`t call me or sent an e-mail asking me about that, however I remember you called me to infor and asked to me why the fridge was defrosted. I inforrmed to you that in Barcelona that date and during the afternoon, we had a black out (or power cut). It was the company, not myself or a problem of the apartment. You can check this in the news because if after my explanation you didn`t believe me, it is better you check that on the Internet; as well as in USA, we have sometimes problems with the electricity in Spain.
About to be "a llittle" disappointed, I am happy you were not "completely" disapointed. To carry very big cases to an apartment without lift is not a good idea. And the building has not elevator, this is in the information of this Website. However, I helped you with one of the cases...
Thanks again to give me 4 stars and not 5!! Still I am very happy with this 4.

My friend and I are studying abroad in Spain and we went to Barcelona for a long weekend. We stayed at Monica's apartment and it was the best decision of the trip. We were picked up at the airport and brought straight to the apartment by her friend. She told us everything we needed to know about the city: places to eat, where we should feel safe/where we needed to be more careful. The apartment is cute and cozy with a kitchen that already has coffee, hot chocolate, tea, bottled water. We felt safe and were more than comfortable. We were very close to the cathedral so there were lots of places to eat nearby and it was easy to take cabs when we went out at night. Very clean!

I can only echo what other reviewers have said about Monica's apartment. The location is superb, literally steps away from Santa Caterina market (and the great restaurant in it) and a few minutes away from the Cathedral and the heart of the Born and Gothic districts of town. The apartment itself is an oasis in a busy part of the city. It is of good size for a one room apartment, very clean and very well appointed--a lot of nice touches. The terrace is large--but we didn't use it much in our four day visit because we were out all the time. However, the best thing about the apartment is Monica. She obviously takes great pride in the apartment and it shows. She is also an invaluable source of information, ranging from the best places (and times) to eat, to the best beaches, to how best to see Sagrada Familia (buy your timed tickets at the La Caisa aTM machine across from Santa Caterina market and save yourself the hour long line). She's the best ambassador Barcelona has. There is one downside with the apartment, as pointed out by several reviewers and Monica herself, and that is that you are on the fifth floor with no elevator. The 71 stairs to the fifth floor are uneven, narrow, and steep at times. My wife and I are reasonably fit for our age (50s) and we looked upon the stairs as exercise--and they were. Anyone who is overweight or has medical issues needs to think twice about staying at the apartment. Despite this, we'd stay again in a heartbeat (and probably will). We've already recommended it to several friends.

Left on 09/02/2012 for a stay in August 2012
All prior communication with Monica before arriving in Barcelona was very prompt, professional and precise. We then met Monica on the day we checked in near the apartment and she gave us the run down on all appliances and how everything worked, this took 20 mins at most but was most useful.
The actual apartment itself is very beautiful, the bed very comfortable, has air conditioning, fridge , cooker, microwave, stereo ( iPod compatible ) Tv and DVD. Other guests have leave a lot of local guidebooks and recommendations for nearby pubs and restaurants.
The best part of the apartment however is the roof terrace, its very spacious with 2 sun-loungers and 4 other seats and we spent at least 2 hours there every night when we got back to the apartment, its also an excellent place for drying any laundry if you are on an extended stay.
The only downside of the apartment for us was the steep stairs ( 4th floor apartment ) but the roof terrace made up for this and I wouldn't let it put anyone off at all, however anyone with a mobility disability or very overweight must bear this in mind.
Nearby the apartment there is a taxi rank 1 min walk away, an aTM 30 sec walk away and a stop for the Barcelona Bus Turistic right beside the taxi rank. The Metro stop Jaume is approx 5 mins walk from the apartment also.
There are loads of restaurants and cafes nearby, our favorite area was around El Born and Carrer d'Allada Vermell but between the beach at Barceloneta and the apartment there are loads of cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from.
The nearby Santa Caterina Market is superb also and I sticked up on Chorizo and Fuet from here before flying home.
Would highly recommended this apartment to anyone and it's very good value also.Response from Monica Ramos - 09/02/2012

The apt. is in the heart of the city, clean and so cool, it is perfectly comfort for a couple.
The terrace's so good to have a glass of vine after a long walking day.
The only thing if you are not fit enough, you may have hard time to climb the narrow and steep stairs which is also good for morning gym :)
You can find almost every equipments in the kitchen.
Air condition works well, you can have free Wifi, and there is also nice music CD collection.
Monica, the owner of the house, was great, she welcomed us as her guests. When we arrived she took us with his friend and he helped us to carry our luggages, and that was too kind...
She also made lots of suggestions about whole city, pointed on map like a perfect tour guide.

Dallas, Texas3 Day Stay in Barcelona
Left on 07/07/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My wife and I (mid-twenties) stayed in Monica's apartment for three days. The apartment had an awesome location with close proximity to shopping (my wife), great restaurants, the beach, and la rambla. You could really walk everywhere (though I wouldn't recommend walking to Sagrada Familia). The apartment is very nice and has everything you would need for a stay. The kitchen appeared fully equipped though we didn't use it because we preferred to eat out. The terrace was also great, and a nice place to have coffee or a drink. I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone with a handicap, since it is up five flights of stairs, which is really the only negative about this place. Monica, the owner, was an awesome resource on places to eat for us. We had studied in Barcelona and weren't too interested in seeing the sights so we tried out most of the restaurants that she recommended and they were all great! I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone traveling to Barcelona. When we return we will certainly be staying here again.

We have just spent an amazing 5 days in Monica's apartment and cannot rate it highly enough. We landed at 4pm,jumped on the aerobus and were enjoying a coffee by the market by 4.35.
The apartment has everything you need and I mean everything!
We were eager to prepare meals with ingredients from the market and this was made so much easier by the salt, sugar olive oil, coffee, tea, vinegar etc supplied by Monica.
We had great fun sightseeing and then having a siesta on the beach.Monica has the knack of reading her guests and recommending things to their taste. We followed up 4 of her reccomendations and enjoyed them all.
It was a lovely holiday
What about those stairs??? The first time up them is the worst!! But remember without the stairs you wouldnt have a roof terrace would you?

Fantastic location in amazing neighborhood where it felt safe and easy to walk to all major attractions including La Rambla. It is also in the middle of town so taxis were easy to find and reasonably priced to everywhere. Our hostess was super accomodating and went completely out of her way for us when needed. She was even willing to assist with finding contacts for a school project which was fantastico!! Our only complaint is that the apartment is on the fifth floor and does not have an elevator. The steep stairs were slightly scary to navigate up and down with large luggage. However, Monica was such a great hostess that she was more than willing to come and lend us a hand during both check-in and check-out! Muchas Gracias!!!

Easy to get everywhere and as non-Spanish speakers, we could easily find places to eat nearby and easy to find a variety of supermarkets, shops and markets to shop in. All the little details like adapters are provided plus some very helpful additions such as a book of recs from previous guests. A tall person might have trouble navigating the tiny bathroom and low shower head plus you've got to be able to climb steep stairs - but those things aside its an ideal spot for 1-2 visitors on a weekend trip or extended stay.

Monica's terrace apartment is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Barcelona. It's pretty and comfortable (although you have to climb a lot of stairs to get there!) and at the center of everything-- and Monica was a great help. Check in and check-out were on time and helpful. A computer problem was quickly solved for us. She recommended a great restaurant for the best meal we had in Spain. The apartment is just across from the Santa Caterina market, so shopping for food was easy and fun. Also close to the Picasso Museum and the Cathedrals. In fact, we walked just about everywhere in Barcelona from the apartment. The terrace is wonderful, night and day, and the apartment is blessed by nearly absolute quiet, so sleeping in after a day spent walking and a night spent wandering is easy. Great place, highly recommended.

This charming apartment is quiet, spotless and located steps from the second oldest market in Barcelona. It is a perfect spot to walk to all the sites and metro. Monica is like having a friend in town. She had a local mobile phone for us to use and remained in contact throughout our week to assure we were having a good time. Her restaurant recommendations were fantastic and her book from previous guests was filled with helpful tips. The 72 steps to the apartment are not for the fainthearted. But once there the rooftop terrace offers a perfect rest. Thank you Monica!

The apartment is excellent - very clean, comfortable and quiet. Although quite small, everything you need is there for self-catering. The roof terrace is perfect for dining and chilling and the wi-fi link was an added bonus. The location is perfect for all the sites - just step out onto the side street and soak up the atmosphere. Monica was extremely helpful. Would thoroughly recommend - if you are fit enough to climb to the fourth floor!

There are so many positives to this location, it's hard to fit in one review! My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Monica's apartment in august.
The first thing to mention is the location - absolutely ideal You're near several major metro stops (as well as a block away from the stops for the tourists buses), but not right next to them. The same goes for the Ramblas - an interesting/lively place, but not one I would want to be staying directly on - you're an easy 3-5 block walk from that craziness, which makes for peace and quiet when you want it. You're also right across the street from the bustling Mercat Santa Caterina - which is a great place to pick up food to cook in the small but perfect kitchen, equipped with gas stove, mini fridge and microwave, inside the apartment. Monica makes sure it is stocked with basic cooking utensils and supplies. The building is very quiet, too.
The apartment has wardrobe space, a table, and even an iPod dock for music, as well as a TV and WiFi access. But the real star is the terrace, with its sun loungers and table where you can have a romantic dinner, sunbathe, or stargaze, all while catching a nice breeze.
When you arrive, Monica and her partner will greet you and spend some time giving you some great tips about anything you want to know about, with a vast knowledge of the city. I really recommend you follow what they have to say as well as checking out the guest book for tips from past occupants!
The only negative - the stairs. This is only a problem if you are handicapped, or aren't in reasonably good shape. We had no problem handling them, and, if you aren't scared of a few flights of stairs, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to you. After so much delicious food, we viewed the stairs as a positive bit of workout!
In short I would recommend this apartment to almost any couple, without a second thought, and my wife and I can't wait to return and visit Monica's place again.

We were in Barcelona for two weeks, and we spent our first week in this room. It is very cozy, clean, and comfortable. The owners were extremely helpful, friendly and reliable. We took advantage of the beautiful Sant Catarina market across the street, the organic grocery around the corner and the small, but very adequate kitchen in the apartment to make our meals the first week. My only regret is that the room was already booked for our second week! From here, you can easily walk to the beach, all around the Barri Gotic, and to Plaza Catalunya. It really was just the perfect place for us.

Harrison my 13 year old son and I stayed at Monica's apartment for 10 wonderful days. Monica arranged for us to check in mid morning after an early flight from the UK. The apartment was a haven of peace and tranquility. The first thing I wanted was a cup of coffee so it was wonderful that the apartment already had everything I needed. In the heat of the day the place remains cool. we didn't have much need for the air conditioning which conveniently was very quite. Monica's apartment felt really homely. If you needed information about anything Monica has supplied it. It was really insightful to be able to read tips and idea's from previous guests too.
Having a large private roof terrace was fantastic. Sun loungers, table and chairs with sun canopy confirmed that Monica wants all her guests to feel pampered.
The apartment is in an ideal location close to all the major attraction. The Picasso museum or La Rambla only a few minutes walk away.
Once you have stayed at Monica's apartment I promise you will want to come back again and to tell all of your friends.
Congratulations Monica on providing a wonderful apartment at a really great rate.Response from Monica Ramos - 08/06/2011

The owner is sweet, the apartment is clean, well located, quiet, and has everything you need. We enjoyed the terrace on more than one occasion. Across the street is the Mercado Santa Catalina where you can buy fresh food everyday. There are many delicious resturants nearby (and a Starbucks if you must!). The Barcelona Catherdral is 2 blocks away, and within a 5 minute walk you can be at the Palau de la Musica, the Picasso museum, and La Rambla. Two subway stops (yellow and red) are within 3 blocks. Monica was on time, had lots of information on the area, and was very easy to deal with. Her English is excellent. The only downside some people may find is the 4 flights of stairs, but the apartment is quiet and has a nice view because of it! I would rather walk up extra flights and sleep soundly, than be on a lower floor in a city and hear every car beep and bus brake! My best hint...Out of the apartment make a right, at the end of the alley go right, at the light go right again...and about 2 blocks down on the right hand side is the best churros and hot chocolate in all of Barcelona. Laietana is the street name. It's standing room only, and delicious!

Three words.
Stairs. Hosts. Location.
Stairs. The stairs have been covered before so I won't go into detail but if you are not comfortable with stairs then this is not the apartment for you. If you are however...
Hosts. Monica is simply superb! She patiently waited to meet us even though I had phone troubles on arrival. Once in the apartment she pointed out where to go on a map and basically was a tourist information service.
Location. You won't do better. Right in the middle of the Gothic area with the city centre within walking distance in one direction and the beach walking distance in the other direction.
One point I have to make is that the apartment was smaller than we had imagined from photos but once over that it had all we needed and met all our needs. I would not hesitate to recommend this apartment to a friend.Response from Monica Ramos - 07/03/2011

The whole experience of visiting Barcelona for the first time was made so inviting by Monica. Her instructions were easy to follow and she went out of her way to meet us earlier so that we we could deposit our bags in the lovely apartment. The apartment was clean and so comfortable. Everything had been thought about with the vistor in mind. The split level room that housed the kitchen dining and lounge area was separated from the bedroom area with a step up level with drape divide. You felt at home, you felt at ease and relaxed. The bathroom was compact but had everything you would require while on vacation.
Monica has gone to a great deal of effort to make the apartment appealing and practical and it works really well.
I really liked the added touch of the two information boxes that were in the apartment. Not only did Monica provide us with a huge amount of information when we arrived on where to go, how to get there, where to eat and what to see, but these boxes contained so much information regarding what not to miss while you are in Barcelona and also recommendations from previous guests and were really helpful and interesting. The added bonus with this apartment was that it had its own rooftop area that was ideal for having breakfast or relaxing after a hard days sightseeing around Barcelona. It was very quiet but you needed to be okay with climbing stairs as it is at the top of the property. We had a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this apartment if you are going to Barcelona.Response from Monica Ramos - 05/10/2011

There is a reason this apartment is the top rated rental in Barcelona. My husband and I stayed here for our 3rd wedding anniversary this april, and couldn't be happier with the choice.
The apartment is located right across from the Catarina Market and direclty across the street from the gothic Cathedral, and the whole old town area. It is also right next to a cab pick-up and a Barcelona Bus Touristic stop(the hop-on, hop-off tourist bus) which is so convenient to get around the city. The market has plenty of stuff to buy to keep in the little fridge in the apartment for a quick breakfast before setting out for the day!
Monica is so nice and helpful and check-in was very easy and quick. She has all kinds of recommendations on hotels, things to do, places to see etc., all easily accessed in her apartment guide book! The apartment is very quiet at night and the bed (which can either be two twins, or a king) is super comfy. I am so glad my husband and I booked Monica's apartment over any hotel. I don't think we would have been able to experience Barcelona like we wanted to: in a cute little apartment, among locals, in the old town. No hotel would have offered us that, and it was cheaper and a better experience than a hotel!
Thanks Monica! We will never forget our trip to Barcelona!Response from Monica Ramos - 04/21/2011

Just got back from a fabulous 4 days in Barcelona. Our flight was delayed 8 hours going but Monica was still more than happy to greet us at the apartment at 2am (thanks!)
The apartment has lots of character and well laid out with everything you need for business or pleasure. The roof terrace is huge and great for soaking up the sunshine (which it gets all day).
A tip for the traveller - the local market is very expensive - the supermarket is much cheaper next door. If you want nice fresh food then go to the food market on the Ramblas - a third of the price and a bigger selection - its only 5-10minute walk and a pleasant one.
All in all a great place to stay and we are planning to go back at some point.Response from Monica Ramos - 03/29/2011

Hello all,
This apartment was a romantic delight.
I would recommend it to anyone desiring a cozy, authentic, quaint experience in the loveliest part of the city.
From the apartment, my girlfriend and I were 5 minutes walk from Picasso Museum, Barrio Gotic... 15 minutes from Raval, 30 minutes from Sagrada Familia, 45 minutes walk from Parc Guell. The walks were all lovely! Separately, there is an amazing coffee and tapas place right across the street that opens early and stays open relatively late.
After my girl left, I stayed for a business conference. The place is a short cab to the Fira and there is a commercial printer across the street!!! More convenient and affordable than FedEx Kinkos!
The only negative would be for anyone disabled. The apartment is a fourth floor walk up.Response from Monica Ramos - 03/10/2011

Riverside, CT.A Cozy Hideaway in a Great Location
Left on 01/30/2011 for a stay in November 2010
This flat was fabulously located just two blocks from the cathedral (where we saw the Pope when he was in Barcelona to consecrate Segrada Familia) and not even a block from the magnificent produce, meat, fish and cheese array of Santa Caterina Marketplace.
While the climb of 4 flights of stairs maybe challenging for some, the payoff is a romantic gem of a rooftop terrace that overlooks the neighborhood where there is complete privacy and no street noise. We would cap our long day of walking the streets of Barcelona (the apt is in the Gothic Quarter so the neighbor is architecturally rich with homes, churches and restaurants that vie for your attention to their detailed facades) with a glass of wine r some dessert as we reflected on the day that was or the one that was yet to be.
The Tapas Bar in Santa Caterina Marketplace is a very good and reasonable priced eatery, which makes it popular among locals as well as tourists, so be prepared to wait. We were lucky to get seated relatively quickly, maybe a 5 or 10 minute wait, by being willing to sit at the tapas serving bar, rather than waiting for a table. It's the same great food, so who cares?
I would go back to this apt in a minute if given the chance again..Response from Monica Ramos - 02/02/2011

Stayed in this apartment for one week in November. The central location made it a perfect base to explore Barcelona easily. The apartment is very small but extremely well equipped and comfortable. It was also suprisingly quiet at night. The Santa Caterina market is about two minutes away from the apartment and has a wonderful array of food - much closer and less hectic than Boqueria market. We were lucky enough with the weather to make use of the terrace area above the apartment - lots of space to sit and relax or simply just air clothes! Monica was flexible with our check-in and check-out times and gave us useful tips for exploring the city. The four flights of stairs up to the apartment were a good way to help burn off all the tapas!!

The location of this apartment is 60 meters from an amazing mercado (market), 2 blocks from the rococco Music Palace (don't miss!), 3 blocks from the Ramblas, a block from the cathedral, and around the corner from charming, creative little shops, some run by craftspeople who both work and sell in them. We found Monica and her assistant to be wonderfully helpful both before and during our stay, even setting us up for a New Year's Eve event and a cell phone. The small apartment has pretty much just what you need, including kitchen supplies, with nothing extra. We really enjoyed meeting Monica and renting her apartment. Having WiFi let us keep in touch with family and friends. It was within walking distance of most of the major sights in Barcelona and right next to the market where we were able to buy fresh food every day. What a treat to have warm bread just from the oven. Our favourite activity was the tour of the Palau de la Musica Catlana which is just a few blocks from the apartment. Not only is the building beautiful but we were able to able a concert as well. There were no problems with check in and check out. We were able to walk to the Plaza Catalunya to catch the bus to the airport. Some people have complained about the 71 steps to the apartment but having the roof top terrace made it worth every step. We would love to stay here again.

Left on 10/07/2010 for a stay in August 2010
This small apartment is in a fantastic location for the beach, shopping, drinking & eating and cultural activities. Easy to get to from the airport (bus to/from Placa de Catalunya, then a ten-minute walk if you know your way around, or a short taxi ride), it's in a quiet little side street and on the top floor of the building. The apartment is quite small, but certainly in summer the fantastic, big private roof terrace makes more than up for it. There are a market, a supermarket and several corner shops practically on the door step. The owner was very nice and friendly in her communication with us per email and even though she wasn't in Barcelona at the time or our arrival, she made sure we were met by someone else to do the check-in and check-out, and this worked absolutely fine.
I think the apartment is perfect for two people but you couldn't fit any more adults in.
There were essential cooking ingredients in the cupboard such as salt & pepper, sugar, oil, coffee and tea, as well as washing up liquid etc.
All in all this was a perfect 5-night stay and we would definitely stay there again.Response from Monica Ramos - 10/13/2010

You can walk around all the little old streets and explore the different quarters on foot. There is excellent access to public transport and it is easy to feel like you are finding out what it's like to live in Barcelona.
Monica is very helpful at pointing you in the right direction for what you need to know to find your way around.
The appartment is a delightful hideaway on the top floor of the building with the terrace offering a rooftop expanse of the skyline of the other appartments and buildings in the neighbourhood.
It is well equipped, basic essentials are provided (coffee, oil, vinegar). Bedlinen and towels were clean and the appartment was in a very good condition. The air-conditioning unit and an internet connection were welcome ammenities.

Though the studio is quite small it is so well kitted out that everything you could possibly need is there and it is very clean. My friend and I (both in our late 20s) stayed in Monica's flat for four days in March 2010. Monica was great about communicating via email and phone, very available during our stay, and provided a ton of valuable information about the area with excellent insider tips on places to eat.
After walking up four flights of narrow steps (not for those with bad knees or difficulty with steps), we entered a lovely, cosy space which provided a perfect homebase for our stay. The apartment is small but well furnished and the terrace provides a wonderful extension to the space allowing us to be outside but in the calm of the house. We only used the heater (too cold for A/C) and it worked perfectly. The shower is small but has good water pressure and the whole apartment is very clean. The kitchen is fully furnished for cooking with not just dishes and utensils but also basic food supplies. The house is very conveniently located to the metro, a taxi stand, and all major tourist and local neighborhoods and sites in Barcelona. We felt very safe both during the day and at night walking home.
I highly recommend this home. I cannot speak highly enough of Monica. She helped us experience the local scene and feel a little more like locals. The only consideration you should have is your ability to walk up the steps. We didn't have a problem but I can understand that they may be a little steep and long for some.

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely, tiny apartment in the heart of Old Town. Just perfect location! Flat was cozy, warm (even in winter) and beautiful with everything you can need during your stay. I can imagine how lovely it would be to sip a cold drink in the rooftop terrace on a hot summer day. Bedlinen and towels were a bit worn but clean, and the flat itself was spotless. As mentioned in previous comments, the only slight minus is that you have to climb lots and lots of narrow stairs to get to the flat - but on the other hand the flat was very quiet. Would definately recommend and will go back when I next time visit Barcelona - hopefully soon!

a thorough guide of how everything worked, as well
as all the other info we needed (local shops, bars,
personal security etc).
The apartment really is lovely - beams on the
ceiling, wooden floors: really rustic and well
presented. It's not the biggest, but more than
adequate for two. The heating works really well and
it has full cooker, plus toaster, m/wave etc (but
no grill). The food market just opposite is
fantastic too, while the apartment has the basics -
salt/pepper/sugar/oil/coffee.
The bathroom is small but functional - tiny bath,
but the shower works well enough. Again, no
complaints. The lounge has TV/stereo/dining table.
I was there with my partner working at a
conference, so relied on the internet - it was
wired, so I'm not sure you could get more machine
going at once, but it worked without a hitch.
It was mostly raining while we were there, but we
did go on the terrace once for lunch. It's quite
nice, but has no views to speak of and no privacy.
Would be a nice bonus in good weather though, for
sure.
The area is perfect. It's the heart of the old
town, so great for strolling around. Jaume I is the
nearest metro, but we tended to wander up to
Catalunya as its a nice route and very well
connected. The Ramblas is a lovely and short walk
away, maybe 10 mins, and there are countless great
bars and restaurants around.
I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone
who can manage a very steep, pretty thin staircase,
and we certainly intend to come back and stay here
again in future. It's a great starting point to see
this amazing city. -

san francisco, caI had a great stay in this cozy, well-located apartment.

I had a great stay in this cozy, well-located apartment. Monica and her husband were extremely helpful and accommodating, and generous with their assistance and time. It's clear that they treat their guests as future friends.
The apartment itself is small by American standards, but it has everything that you need, and more importantly it is in a great location, because you didn't come to Barcelona to sit in the room. However, when you are there, you appreciate the homey touches like the art, painted walls, cookware, etc..
Location-wise, Barcelona is a compact city, and the location of the apartment puts you in walking distance of everything, if you are a walker, and if you aren't the public transit systems gets you where you need to go. But there is something very re-assuring about having a home base that is well-positioned on the map so as to give you a good center.
Others have mentioned the stairs, so nothing more to add about that. The patio is great when the weather is, too.
All in all, I recommend this place for the value, location, and terrific service!Response from Monica Ramos - 02/19/2010

Couple in their 40's
EuropeGreat location - lovely terrace - nice apartment
Left on 10/29/2009 for a stay in September 2009
Nice and cosy apartment, perfect place for couples. Not a lot of space in the apartment, but very well organised, and contains everything you could possibly need for a holiday. The private rooftop terrace is great, for example for some quiet moments after hectic days in the city. The only persons who probably should not book are people who has bad legs, because of a lot of steps. For everyone else: It’s great!

Boston, MAdelightful, comfortable and charming

I only hesitate to give this a full 5-star recommendation because of the 71-step walkup, which might be intimidating to some. The place is to our taste, very well located, exceptionally clean and comfortable. I was delighted to find professionally laundered, hotel-quality linens. The shower had exceptionally good water pressure by European standards. The terrace was a great breakfast spot. Monica is a gracious and helpful landlady. I hope to stay here again.

York, EnglandLovely apartment (as long as you are reasonably fit)
Left on 10/19/2009 for a stay in October 2009
This is a relatively small apartment, consisting of one good-sized room
divided into a sleeping area by the window and a kitchen / sitting area nearer
the door. There is a small but adequate en-suite bathroom. You also have
private access to a rooftop terrace. The apartment is nicely decorated and well
maintained. Ideal for one or two people.
The location is wonderful - close to the old cathedral within an area of small
streets, squares and cafes, with a terrific market nearby. Ten or 15 minutes
walk from La Rambla.
Monika looked after us very well. The only thing to be aware of is that there
are 71 steps up from the entrance door to the apartment, with another 8 or 10
to the terrace. If you are in reasonable shape, the stairs should not be a
problem, but it is something to be aware of.Response from Monica Ramos - 10/26/2009

BarcelonaA lovely nest in the center of the city
Left on 07/21/2009 for a stay in January 2009
I stayed at this apartment for a whole month and absolutely loved it. It's located in the very center of Barcelona, in the Old Town. Around 100 meters from the Cathedral, and very close to the Urqinaona metro station, but the apartment itself is silent and peaceful. You can feel yourself completly detached from the noise of the busy city. I was amazed on how well I felt when staying there.
And the private terrace was like a nest where I could relax.
There is also a very good market 30 meters away where I used to get fresh fruit, and also a very nice restaurant at the corner.
All in all, it was a fantastic stay, and I wish I could have stayed longer.Response from Monica Ramos - 07/23/2009
