      Burglarized using apartment keys

Left on 12/28/2012 for a stay in December 2012

We booked the apartment (referenced apt-19-62422012, with address 8 Colomines street, 3rd floor) in July 2012 through the company's (Excellence Management S.L) site apartime.com for a 10 day stay in December 2012. We arrived on December 07 as scheduled and called the phone number indicated on our confirmation mail. The person responsible to do the check-in (Andrew) was obviously pressed for time as we were mildly reprimanded because the taxi driver left us a couple of streets prior to the address and we were 5 minutes late for our appointment. Nevertheless, with the help of our cell phone and a passer-by who talked in it with andrew to let him understand where we were exactly, we found each other. He did help us up the stairs and showed us the apartment briefly, cautioning us to double lock when we exited.

When he left, we realized that he forgot to tell us that the second bathroom was missing entirely one of the 2 window panes and glass (being December one may understand that the second bathroom was rendered useless). The apartment was not luxurious but efficient as we had suspected from the pictures. The whole floor was covered with chipped and cracked tiles and the cleaning person obviously had done a very hasty job. Since we weren't buying it and we all work in the same sector in another country, we did not want to cause trouble to what we perceived as colleagues, so did not call them to complain.

On our second day of stay, we went for dinner (double locked as always) and when we returned after 3 hours, I placed the key in the door, tried to unlock it and realized that it was closed but not locked as I had left it. On entering the apartment, we realized that we have been burglarized as our two lap tops were missing, all jewellery, cosmetics, sunglasses, expensive clothing items (the thieves had an eye for cachemire women's sweaters) and one of our suitcases (to put the l??t inside). As there weren't any phone numbers of emergency in the house, we called the phone number andrew had left us. Then the phone number on the booklet in the apartment. There was no answer at all. I understand it was late at night, but as apartime is in the hospitality business for some time now, I was expecting a more serious treatment. I had to go out to a nearby bar and ask the bartender to call the police for us. The police arrived in less than 5 minutes and they came with us to the apartment (we had left everything intact), inspected it, saw that the door was not broken (in fact apartment keys had been used) and that the apartment's small flat screen tv and mini cd player were not stolen although it was quite easy. They wrote a report and invited us the next day at the police station to file complaint.

Needless to say that staying the night in that apartment terrified us so we slept in turns. The next day (Sunday) we had to call apartime again (nobody returned our call) and we got hold of another representative (a girl) who volunteered to escort us to the police station. We filed a lawsuit and were given a copy of it as well as a document stating our right to be compensated for our losses. The girl from apartime showed us to another apartment (this time with only one bathroom, and in an obscure area of the city where it was impossible to sleep all through the night during weekends). She thought it was an upgrade as the new apartment was better equipped and designed.

We were told that there would be a stuff meeting on the next day (Monday) and we would be advised of the outcome. Nobody called us on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday morning, so on Wednesday afternoon I called them myself to speak with the owners and settle the issue in a civilized manner. I spoke with the girl who had escorted us at the police. She told me that her boss was unavailable, when I asked about the inquiries regarding the personnel, she told me that none of the employes was responsible for the burglary, but the previous guest had declared the second set of the apartment keys stolen and so the thief had them. There was no explanation why the door lock was not changed immediately and why the previous guest and we (our belongings and personal safety)were placed in danger by their negligence. In addition, I still cannot understand how the thief knew who lived in the apartment, when the guests were in or out and why he or she did not touch any of the valuable items belonging to the apartment. Needless to say, we were not contacted by her boss, as promised, during the rest of our stay or any other time. Of course this puts all of us in the difficult position to pursue the issue in court in a foreign country, but we will do it.

While the overall experience of Barcelona was great, I still wonder how apartime, being in the hospitality sector, could handle the incident in such an unprofessional manner and jeopardized their reputation.

      Great value for the price!

Left on 10/29/2012 for a stay in September 2012

My daughter and I rented this place for 5 days in September 2012. The place coud benefit from some minor cosmetic updating (paint, grout in the bathroom) but it is a great value for the price. It is centrally located within walking distance from Plaza Catalunya where you can catch the bus to the airport (super convenient) and the metro, buses etc.
A word of caution if you are staying there over the weekend: there is a club right across the street from the master bedroom, and it can get very loud. I left for the airport at 4:30 am and the music was still blasting.
