El Barri Gòtic is located in the center of Barcelona, and with Las Ramblas on one side and Via Laietana on the other, its boundaries stretch all the way to the Mediterranean coast . The area is characterized by small, labyrinthine streets, intimate plazas, public spaces, and beautiful Gothic architecture . In the Barri Gòtic you will find the famous Barcelona Cathedral, as well as the political and public heart of Barcelona, Plaça de Sant Jaume , where the Generalitat de Catalunya operates. El Barri Gòtic is the perfect place to get an authentic feel for the rich history of Barcelona, as well as its effects on present day life in the city. Starting from Plaça de Catalunya, a walk down the Portal del Àngel, the first medieval entrance to the city, will take you to the many commercial shops and cafés that line the streets.   Cesc, the owner was brilliant. Replied promptly when I booked and gave me gave us good local travel info re best way from airport + met us at the apartment, even though we were late. Apartment on the 4th floor with lift (top floor), very quiet and we went during the Festes de la Mercè, was perfect and the 2 terraces were superb - shade when you needed it and sun when not. I was recovering from an illness and knew I would get tired so booked this apartment due to its location but mainly because the terraces would give me an area to relax on - I could not have chosen better. Ideal for the Gothic quarter and only 5 minutes amble from Plaça Catalunya (where the airport bus dropped us off). I know this review sounds to good to believe but its not.
