    Additional Location Information

Eixample is Catalan for "extension", meaning an extension of the old Barcelona city. The grid pattern of Eixample was designed by urban planning visionary, Ildefons Cerdà, who saw the benefit in utilizing octagonal blocks, allowing all residents easy access to the city center. The area boasts some of the best Basque tapas in Barcelona, and some renowned restaurants serving the most delicious paella! Nestled in between Eixample Izquierdo and Plaça Espanya lies the historical Joan Miró Park. Also known as Parc l'Escorxador, (Catalan for slaughterhouse), it holds great historical value as it was the first large urban park after Franco's regime. The area caters to every palate, and with Passeig de Gràcia a short walk away, choosing an apartment in Eixample Izquierdo won't leave you disappointed.

Great location but lacks ammenities for american travelers.

Left on 06/20/2012 for a stay in June 2012

We enjoyed our stay for two weeks at this apartment. Jose the owner couldn't have been nicer. The apartment is in an excellent location close to tons of restaurants and shopping.
The negative points that were lacking that most americans are used to were:
1.- They only have a washer but no dryer. Indispensable for most americans.
2.- There is no dishwasher for people on longer stays
3.- There is no landline phone and if you don't have a Spanish Cell phone you are lost; roaming with your american cell phone is very expensive.
4.- They advertised that the apartment had WiFi Internet which it didn't. They gave us a USB stick for our laptop which worked fine, but our two cell phones could not work without WiFi.
5.- There is no Intercom, buzzer or bell downstairs, so if someone comes to visit you, or you order groceries or a pizza, you'll never know someone is downstairs. This to us was the most inconvenient thing.
The kitchen and bathroom have been nicely updated. The elevator comes directly to the apartment which is nice.

The fact that I'm writing this is testament to the quality

Left on 10/08/2011 for a stay in September 2011

From before arrival to departure it was Jose the landlord made the difference between this being a good experience to a great one. The apartment was in an excellent location giving easy access by foot to La Rambla and the Gothic quarter but also to the excellent Barcelona metro system (nr Urgell). Jose made the arrival seamless and was very flexible at departure, allowing us to leave our luggage in the apartment on the day of departure so we could enjoy the city unencumbered for 4 more hours. Jose pointed out good cheap local places to eat and the places to avoid all in perfect english. The apartment was very comfortable with all mod cons and entertainment systems, the air conditioning was very welcome. The only niggle was the shower water pressure was low - but I think this is typical across the city - and is the only reason I couldn't rate comfort 5 star. There were plenty of local food shops and small supermarkets to enable you to cater for yourselves. The main bedroom was roomy, but if you were planning on more than 2 of you staying you might find the sofa bed in the main living area and the apartment in general becoming less roomy. But hey who wants to be indoors in a city as vibrant and interesting as Barcelona. If you are coming to Barcelona don't bother with the hotels rent this apartment - you won't be disappointed.

      Great apartment in great location!

Left on 10/02/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed here for a 5 night city break. The location of the apartment was excellent with only a 5min walk from 2 tube stations, 5-10min walk from great resaurants, 5-10min walk from Las Rambles. Also only 20min bus trip from the airport. Jose was also a great host and even carried my suitcase to the bus stop en route home! Thanks for a great stay!
