  Lovely flat in enchanting location

  This apartment almost has it all: the perfect location, a stylish interior and great-value rates.
  
  It is situated in the enchanting Gothic Quarter, about two minutes' walk from La Rambla and maybe four minutes to the transport hub of Plaça de Catalunya. The street itself is the kind of narrow heaving road that's the essence of this part of town's charm.
  
  The flat itself was stylish and comfortable. There were two bedrooms, so it can sleep four, but there were only two of us. I thought it made the perfect romantic city pad. (But I got engaged while staying there, so maybe I'm biased :)
  
  The only real pity was the state of the kitchen equipment. Part of the point of getting an apartment for your holiday is so that you can cook sometimes, and there are wonderful food markets all around. But the cooking utensils are in such a poor state that it's very difficult to cook there. The chef's knife was extremely blunt (no sharpening steel was provided) and there wasn't even a chopping board. If you plan to cook anything more complicated than a sandwich, request that they at least sharpen the knife and provide a chopping board.
  
  The flat is up four flights of stairs, so do take that into consideration if you have mobility issues. The rental agents (Cocoon Barcelona, who were extremely efficient and easy to deal with) have four flats in this building, all of which I think are pretty much identical, so you could probably stay lower in the building if you like -- ask about that. But even though it was quite a climb every time, I liked being so high up: it gives a nice view of the road without being too noisy.
  
  All in all I would strongly recommend this apartment. The only reason I'm not giving it full marks is because of the state of the kitchen and the non-existence of wi-fi. But, for the price, you can't beat its location and charm and loveliness. I'd stay there again if they'll sharpen the knife :)
