Eixample is Catalan for "extension", meaning an extension of the old Barcelona city. Eixample was designed by Catalan Ildefons Cerdà, who took traffic and sunlight (amongst many other things) into consideration when drawing up the plans of the new area. Eixample is now characterized by its octagonal blocks and its grid-like pattern, with wide streets, and both commercial and residential districts. It is split into two parts, Eixample Izquierdo and Eixample Derecho, and is home to one of the most famous streets in Barcelona, Passeig de Gràcia , known for high fashion stores and trendy restaurants. The street is intersected by the long Avinguda Diagonal , which runs through the entire city and is considered the core of Barcelona's shopping district . Eixample Derecho is home to many architectural gems, including La Pedrera and the towering La Sagrada Família , known as Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece. You will also find plenty of great bars and cafés here, too, so if you decide to choose one of the many Barcelona apartments in Eixample Derecho for your stay, you won't be disappointed.

  Selecting this apartment was the best thing that I could have done for our family vacation. There were five of us; three adults and two teens. The apartment comfortably accommodated all of us and had an ample number of bathrooms for all of us. Here's my assessment of why I would rate this rental a very high "Good" but just short of "Excellent"
  The "Excellent":
  Location & Apartment...There is simply none better. You are literally across the street from La Pedrera and along the tour bus routes. The subway stop is right in front of the building and if that wasn't enough, Starbucks, with outdoor, cafe seating is next door! It is convenient to Plaza Catalunya and loads of restaurants and shops. The only problem we had with the location was our difficulty in finding a grocery store. So if you plan on preparing meals "in" or just starting the day with a simple breakfast, "scope one out" ahead of time. The apartment was safe, clean, neat and very orderly.
  The apartment Management: We had never rented a vacation rental abroad, so we were somewhat skeptical about the process. Carlos & Milena made it very easy and were very reassuring during the whole process. They made recommendations regarding tours, transfers and even meals. Checking in was a very easy process; a representative meets you at the apartment at an appointed time; you get the rules, sign the documents and they give you the keys. Upon check-out, you simply leave the keys in the apartment.
  Meals
  If you don't want the hassle of searching for a restaurant every night during your stay, I'd highly recommend availing yourself of this service. We had Carlos' mother in law (Monica) prepare two delicious meals for us during our stay. There is an additional cost. I would highly recommend you avail yourself of this service. They were outstanding!! They included appetizers, main course and dessert. She baked a pineapple cake that my son wanted to wrap up and take to our next destination!!
  
  The "Good"
  The Building: It is an old, mixed use (residential & business) building. So by 9am there is a hub-bub of activity in the hallways and with the elevator. It really didn't bother us that much but could be an issue to some.
  The apartment: Could have offered more foreign language (English) TV channels. I thought there were some cosmetic things that could have been done, like replacing some mouldings or filling holes where pictures might once have hung.
  We would stay here again!
