Additional Location Information
As the focus of the recent city renewal program in Barcelona, El Raval is quickly becoming the place to be for the latest trends, hippest art scene, and chicest night life. Since the 1980s, the Barcelona city planning commission has revamped the area, which is now home to the Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum (MACBA) and the Center of Contemporary Culture in Barcelona (CCCB), located in the Plaça dels Àngels. This area is the up-and-coming place for young artists and students, and with the majority of inhabitants under 35 years of age, it has become the premier location for the best art galleries, music stores, stylish boutiques, cafés, bars, and clubs. There is also a growing international group in the neighborhood, and it is home to Barcelona's own China Town. The area is rich with Barcelona history and architecture. The Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp is located in the neighborhood's center, as well as the unfinished Església de Sant Augustí. There are two major markets in the area, the first being the Mercat de Sant Antoni, where on Sundays you can find a rare collection of old books, coins, records, stamps, and more. The other is the world-renowned La Boqueria Market , where you can buy some of the freshest goods on the Mediterranean coast. While staying here, you could even use the kitchen in your Barcelona apartment to try out some new Spanish recipes with delicious ingredients plucked straight from the market.

IrelandRobbed in Barca
Left on 01/25/2012 for a stay in November 2011
Thirty of us headed to Barcelona for what turned out to be a very enjoyable football match. Location was excellent and very close to La Rambla - which is what we wanted. Up to 15 of us got robbed/mugged however. Some of us even got attacked. And close to the apartments. A truly nasty city in many ways. The apparments were ok. Certainly clean. Living room and bathrooms were good. However the bedrooms were tiny - containing bunkbeds mainly. The key system was (and still is I'm sure!) hopelessly ridiculous. The lift/elevator was small and not worth having. I also lost some of my deposit for not 1)having washed a few cups and dishes, 2)removed the bedlinen 3)taken down a small amount of rubbish that we accumulated and d)losing some of the keys. This was stated in the agreement that I signed but I wasn't made aware of this initially by my contact. So read the small print! I also had to wait for over a week to get the last of my deposit back. This in particular casued me a lot of unwarranted hassle. I was also dissappointed with the unprofessional and grumpy treatment I received upon leaving the accomodation without my full deposit - for, I presume, not having met the 1-4 deposit-reducing actions. I have stayed in about a dozen appartments throughout Europe and this was certainly the most stress-inducing.
