Sweetwater12
Northern MinnesotaExcellent location & nice apartment
Left on 05/27/2012 for a stay in February 2012
This very good, older apartment was wonderful for two seniors. Clean, spacious, and very quiet for such a spectacular, urban location. Rating should be a 4 +, but I give it 5 because the manager, Javier Llamas, was so helpful and easy to work with. The location is incomparable: truly 2 minutes to Metro Diagonal, 3 minutes to either of 2 touristic and other buses, a 6-minute stroll to La Pedrera, not much further to Casa Batllo. A 5-minute walk brings you to a good selection of groceries (the small one just down Carrer Bonavista had a surprisingly good selection of wines and artisanal cheeses), and a few minutes longer to a Phone Store, restaurants, residential squares, ATM, small architectural delights. 20-minute walk to Placa Catalunya. This generally upscale, residential area is beautiful and vibrant. I always felt very safe and observed no problems. Do not expect luxury, but the apartment is quite nice and updated. Although the hot water in the fairly large kitchen did not work, Javier immediately offered to fix it, but we didn't take him up on the offer (just heated water on the cooktop to wash dishes for the week). Cookware/pots are adequate if not terribly high quality, though the crockery and glassware are nice. Wi-fi was strong and easy to connect to several devices. Space is wonderful for 2 people and should also work well for four. We wanted to be sure of an interior sleeping room that would be dark and quiet, not facing a street, and the separate bedroom was very good for both. That bedroom opens into the bathroom, which has been nicely updated; it is small but adequate. The shower was very small, and we're not large people. The large central hall/foyer is great--would be even better if hooks were available along the walls to help organize jackets etc. Furnishings, including the mattress, are fine, not luxurious. Plumbing and appliances worked well (didn't try the clothes washer). The refrigerator/freezer is a generous size. Many condiment and small kitchen essentials were supplied. The living room with a big bed, sofa, desk area and eating table is quite large and opens through French doors onto a not-too-scenic but welcome outdoor terrace. We would have used the terrace every day had the weather been a bit warmer. When I blew an electrical fuse one day, Javier responded promptly by phone and I had an immediate solution with a regular fuse box switch. Heat during February was very reliable, responsive, and very easy to control. I love older, historic buildings with their original craftsman quality and aging beauty, and this apartment building was lovely. Though we took the stairs up I think it was 2 tall flights, the elevator worked well. Recycling is easy. Javier returned our PayPal rental deposit practically the day we left the apartment! He also very kindly accommodated our slightly delayed arrival on a Saturday afternoon and a 4 am departure on the following Sunday. Thank you, Javier, for being so responsive. Barcelona is one of the world's loveliest cities, and we hope to return and experience it from this apartment.
