Catalan for "Old Port," Port Vell is located next to the Barceloneta neighborhood. It has been recently renovated, and now offers a vast range of leisure and cultural activities and services, some of which are built on an artificial island. There is a large shopping mall, Maremagnum , located right at the heart of the port, which includes a variety of restaurants ranging from fresh seafood to quick snacks. We booked Down Sea 14, a 3 bedroom apartment. On arrival we were told this apartment was not available so we were being upgraded. We were in fact down graded to a 2 bedroom apartment despite being a party of 6 adults. Apartment Down Sea 1,2 was damp, smokey, cigarette burns throughout, it was also much smaller than Down Sea 14 with one small window in the lounge. When we complained the owner became aggressive demanding full payment, he tried to throw us out on the street, leaving us no where to stay. Be warned, do not trust this agency, we had difficulty having our deposit refunded.

We stayed in Down Sea 14 in Sep 2012 as a group of 10 female adults on a hen weekend (6 of us stayed in Down Sea 14 and 4 stayed in Small City 53 in the same building).
The Good - the location is fantastic; overlooking the port with the Ramblas a few minutes walk away. The views from the balcony are amazing (over the port) and the apartment itself was nicely furnished, clean and comfortable, and easily accommodated the 6 of us. Spiros, the guy who checked us in, was friendly and helpful too. There was also free wifi and tea bags... which kept us very happy indeed!!
The Not So Good - the shower in the ensuite bathroom ran pretty cold most of the time, and there was a bit of miscommunication between the office and Spiros (the office had agreed a couple of things with me prior to arrival and hadn't let him know - though this was easily resolved). There's also nowhere to store luggage if you're flying out much later than check-out, although I expect that's the case with most apartments.
All in all it was pretty perfect for what we were after and I'd definitely stay there again! -

Found the apartments eventually, difficult to spot (the 14 actually relates to floor 1 room 4. There was no one ready to meet us at the pre planned time, when she did come we complained and was met with a very grumpy and rude lady, she said she was too busy to check us in and we had to call back in an hour. Found a bar and plonked ourselves down, after a sangria or two we eventually checked in to find a man in our shower still tiling and grouting !! He was there all day and we couldn't use the shower till next day, there wasn't enough cutlery either for the 5 of us we complained again and it was sorted pretty quickly. It's a shame we had this experience as the apartment itself is really nice, clean and modern and has a fabulous view over the harbour. It's in a great location near to las ramblas and port and we felt safe here.

The location was excellent, and the view was beautiful. The apartment was clean, updated, and well kept for. If we went back we would like to stay in same location or the Gothic area.
When we arrived the company informed us that they double booked our stay so we did not get to stay in the 3 bedroom apartment we booked originally. We were down graded to a 2 bedroom apartment, for 3 couples to stay in at a discount. We were not happy with what happened but made the best of it.

The apartment Down Sea is a really nice location, 2 minutes to the Rambla and with a real nice view. Everything is clean and in order, the noise from the street is quite low with the windows closed. I would do it again !
