Regina, CanadaCompact apartment in a perfect location
Left on 08/16/2011 for a stay in October 2010
My wife and I visited Barcelona for a week and chose this apartment in the Gothic Quarter based on its location. Close to public transportation, lots of tourist sites and literally five minutes walk to the beach and waterfront, the apartment easily met our expectations.
The apartment was small, but clean, and came equipped with a washing machine that was handy for beach towels (bring or buy your own), and personal laundry - we packed light since we flew EasyJet from Milan. We set the supplied clothes rack on the balcony and found that most things dried in a day, in spite of high humidity.
I have to admit, we were a little concerned about the neighbourhood when the taxi dropped us off about an hour before sunset to meet Matt, the Travelling2Barcelona agent, as the street is narrow and occupied by several refuse bins to accommodate renovations of nearby properties. However, Matt arrived within five minutes, and immediately put us at ease, addressing us by name.
The apartment is on the second level, up a narrow staircase - there is no elevator so moving luggage in and out can be a bit tricky. Matt gave us a great orientation to Barcelona, including nearby amenities, shopping, tourist destinations and tours. He answered all of our questions, and really helped make our first trip to Barcelona enjoyable.
The apartment is only one short block from the waterfront, and about three blocks from the beach. There are at least three small grocery stores within three minutes walk from the apartment. Along the waterfront, there are numerous restaurants, a bicycle rental shop, a fabulous chocolatier, shoe stores and other interesting shops. There are several beach bars that open early in the morning, and provide a great economical breakfast, for those days when you don't want to eat in the apartment. Even in October, the beach and the ocean were warm, at least until about 2:00 PM.
The only problem we encountered was that my Canadian Bank credit card would not work for the deposit or the rental, when I attempted to authorize the charges over the phone from Canada, even though I had contacted the bank to advise them I would be making the purchase. When I used a Visa card, the transactions were approved with no issue.
The only complaint was minor - the bath towels were old and quite worn. I'd recommend you buy or bring your own.
The small apartment kitchen was well equipped with dishes, utensils, pots and pans, as well as sugar, salt and pepper, and a few other condiments. There was no wi-fi offered with the apartment, but we were able to use the free wi-fi from the restaurant across the street, although the signal was weak and intermittent.
We enjoyed our stay in the Gothic Quarter, and we were quite comfortable in our economical home away from home. -

I was happy with my choice. It is a cosy place and has the sea just
beside it. I would consider this flat for a another visit.
