Ashtabula, OhioThe Best Beach Vacation Experience We Have Ever Had
Left on 06/12/2013 for a stay in June 2013
My partner Michael and I just returned from Barra de Potosi, where we
stayed for a week in the Villa Mandala, part of a cluster of three
beautifully appointed casitas banked up against the Pacific...with an
infinity pool that seemingly stretches out to the ocean.
Without a doubt, in 13 years of beaching together in Mexico, this was our
finest sun-and-sand experience. The place itself is enchanting...the
casita, I mean, but also the little village: the proverbial undiscovered
tiny fishing village of 380 souls. Add to this the gift of high-speed
Internet!
Michael and I became much closer through the week and vowed to return here
-- to refresh our relationship and to absorb the extraordinary ambiance of
the bay, the casita, the pool...and the people.
We take away great tans, bellies full of fresh fish, and many happy
memories!

A perfect place...we googled "nature in Mexico" and this is what we found...Barb and Gunnar are wonderful hosts...it really is hard to put it all in words, but if you like to have time stopped, if you like sunsets, if you like quiet and beauty, if you love the ocean, if you like the songs of birds, yes...even the rooster, if you love to swim, to walk the beach, to stand under a sea of stars with the surf pounding in front of you...etc etc...then this is the perfect place for you.

San Miguel de Allende, MexicoA Week in Paradise!!!
Left on 02/14/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We have recently (and reluctantly) returned from our third visit to this little slice of paradise. The beauty of the setting, lovely accommodations, welcoming hosts, and the surrounding charm of the fishing village of Barra de Potosi make this vacation hideaway simply ideal for an incredibly relaxing week or two . If one is seeking a respite from the hectic pace of daily life or simply a break from the mundane, they will be well-rewarded with a stay at Villa Mandala. We are already looking forward to our next stay.

San Miguel de AllendeParadise in Barra de Potosi
Left on 02/13/2013 for a stay in February 2013
We just spent 4 nights at Villa Mandala in one of the two casitas. It was beautifully decorated, immaculate, with high quality linens and fresh flowers each day. The staff, Tito and Carmen made us feel welcome and at home.
It is located right on the beach and we were up at dawn swimming in the clean, clear Pacific Ocean. Gunnar and Barbara Erickson have built a world class retreat. -

Rock Springs WIA Perfect Vacation
Left on 11/12/2012 for a stay in June 2012
My wife and I stayed at Sendas Del Mar in June 2102. It was our first visit to Barra de Potosi. We absolutely loved this trip.
Sendas del Mar is beautiful, and in June we had it to ourselves. We stayed in the Villa Tamarindo, which is exceptionally stunning, with an open air concept and timber-framed palapa roof. The open kitchen and lounging area was great for relaxing in those rare moments when we weren’t at the pool or beach. The infinity-style pool and deck were awesome, with a great view of the beach and sunsets.
Sdm is only a few minutes along the beach to the enramada restaurants on the beach, yet far enough away to still get the privacy and quiet you are looking for. These are feet-in-the-sand palapa style restaurants serving delicious and authentic mexican seafood right on the beach. Likewise, SDM is the same short distance along the road into "downtown" BDP where there are several small tiendas to purchase your refreshments, supplies for each day's breakfast, and other basic needs. The town is very quiet at night. The streets become the locals’ living rooms. There are a few small restaurants in town for eating dinner at night. Don’t miss these! These are very local in flavor and you are really immersing into the local's culture when you eat here - and that is a good thing!
One night when we were sitting at one of the restaurants my wife brought a bunch of bouncy balls that lit up every time they bounced. After she gave the first one away word spread fast that she had them. For the next 20 minutes we sat there as the local kids shy’ly and very politely came up to us in small groups and asked if she had any more balls. Then we sat there and ate dinner watching these lit up balls bouncing down the dimly lit streets. The next night when we walked thru town we could still see those flickering balls bouncing in the streets!
Bdp is laid back and relaxed to the max. Time really slows down there, and in a very good way. What did we do to entertain ourselves? Nothing! Bdp and SDM entertained us. We were never bored, and we weren’t doing anything! Other than swimming in the pool, swimming in the ocean (best swimming ever), shopping at the local markets each day for stuff to cook for breakfast, sitting at the pool enjoying cocktails, smoking good cigars, watching the locals, young and old, hand-line fishing in the surf, watching sunsets, and so on.
I highly recommend Sendas del Mar and Barra de Potosi. -

A rave. A slice of paradise. This is what Villa Mandala in Barra de Potosi delivers. From the room with its gorgeous mandala-like ceiling of woven grasses, with every guest need thoughtfully provided for, to the gardens so graciously cultivated around the exquisite palapas, to the pool that looks out upon the sea, and then the sea, itself, lulling me to sleep at night...what can I say...not enough. It was beautiful, memorable, a place to return to again and again.

Staying at the Villa Mandala was a fabulous experience in a true Beachfront Paradise. The owners Barbara and Gunner provided every convenience and comfort from the very beginning... flowers in the room to the fresh coconut upon our arrival. The Mandala Villa was beautiful with it's palapa roof and rounded walls and roomy bathroom. Just to lay under the palapa with it's exquisite woven palms and listen to the waves breaking on the beach was sheer heaven. It was my first experience staying at a private Pacific Ocean beachfront. The beauty and tranquility of it will always be remembered. Being able to go from the warm ocean water to the equally perfect pool water was divine. I will certainly remember my peaceful walks on the beach and stopping for a massage right there on the beach.

San Miguel de Allende & Great Neck, NYIt's the total package for a true quiet getaway.
Left on 05/08/2010 for a stay in January 2010
Sets a very special standard for beauty and tranquility. Property is even more lovely than owner description. Accommodations and amenities are absolutely first class. To fall asleep to the gentle, rolling waves virtually at your front door and awaken to an infinity pool that beckons in the morning . . . when can I return for another dose of paradise? Surrounding community is equally lovely and the modest fishing community of Barra is another joy from a bygone time. Lots and lots to enjoy within walking, paddling distance and some very special sites only a short ride away. Airport is within minutes but a world away relative to noise. Oh yes, those star-filled nights minus big (and small) city light pollution. Well-priced and well worth the cost. It's the total package for a true quiet getaway.

Warm weather, blue skies, sunshine, pristine beach, gently rolling waves,
infinity pool...overlooking the ocean and beautiful landscaping.
The two lovely casitas are fully equipped, and both have ocean views!
Our hosts, the Ericksons, were as friendly and hospitable as anyone could be!
We can't wait to return.

New York, NYBeachfront Paradise says it all
Left on 01/29/2010 for a stay in January 2010
"Beachfront paradise" is the perfect description of this Barra Vista vacation home. It is a lovely ode to simple elegance and a testament to creating while respecting beautiful natural surroundings. We stayed in Casa Mandala, a spacious round, palapa-covered casita with a very comfortable king-sized bed, great bedside reading lights, and coffee/breakfast/snack area (refrigerator/ice box and kitchen utensils hidden behind upscale-designed wood and bamboo cabinets). The cabinet motif is repeated in the dressing area that encompasses a generous closet of hanging space (lots of hangars), shelves (more than adequate) and safe deposit box. A pretty drying/hanging rack is provided as well. The dressing area is the gateway to the roomy bathroom with under-sink cabinetry as well as sea grass and onyx accessories. It is all about nature and simple beauty, from the onyx sink to the faucet hardware to the shower of polished cement walls and soothing stone floor. The shower area is large enough for two to enjoy, and the water is ample and hot. The casita includes thick and large beach towels, luxury towels for washing and bathing, luxury bed linens, guest toiletries and coffee/breakfast (yogurt, e.g.) provisions, dining chairs and table, reading chairs and table, night tables and light/fan switches accessible without getting out of bed, beautiful fabrics (acquired on the Erickson's travels throughout Mexico, Latin America and Southeast Asia) that cover the many occasional pillows and other furnishings, great ceiling fans (bedroom and bathroom) and bright bathroom lighting. The casita windows and doors are screened. Two sun chairs right outside the door provide great reading options, although we loved bringing our books to the infinity pool (overlooks the beach) that has lounge and other chairs as well as a sun-protected hammock gently swaying over the pool's edge. By the way, the sunsets are extraordinary, the dark skies allow for star gazing, and the sound of waves lulled us t

San Miguel de Allenderelax in comfort and luxury
Left on 01/28/2010 for a stay in October 2009
The architecture of our casita was beautiful and had all the comforts -
luxurious sheets and towels and mosquito netting, king size bed, sitting area
with view of the ocean and small kitchenette, pool and maid service. The casita
is right on the beach with lovely landscaping including a small pond. Our
wonderful hosts, Gunnar and Barbara, have prepared a booklet all about
activities in the area which is most useful.
If you like a small village setting (some nice taco places in the evening within
short walking distance), Barra de Potosi is a perfect place for a quiet vacation -
beachfront restaurants, long walks on a beautiful bay, kayaking in the lagoon,
reading and watching sunsets. -

My wife and I watched the sun set into the Pacific Ocean from the infinity pool which boarders the beach. The ocean is warm. The beach is soft. The rooms are tropical round, free standing buildings with tons of space. The beautiful smell of the palm leaves on the palapa roof make the room fragrant. The tall ceiling and fan keep the room cool. It was very romantic.
