Barra de Potosi, Mexican Riviera-Pacific Coast, Mexico

Additional Location Information
A protected bay with a very long beach (8 miles) is ideal for running or walking. At one end there is a large lagoon with a large variety of birds and one can kayak or take a boat ride through the mangroves. It is also a fisherman’s paradise: from the shore, in the lagoon, or further at sea. Snorkeling, swimming and sea kayaking are other favorite pastimes. The house is located a short distance from the beach restaurants and the lagoon and a walk to the village of Barra de Potosi is only a few minutes away. The Barra (sand bar) is at the mouth of a huge lagoon with a large variety of birds where one can canoe or kayak through the mangroves and watch the birds: frigates, pelicans, egrets, herons, cormorants, and roseate spoonbills among others. A birder's delight .
But the best thing about Barra De Potosi is its people; the villagers themselves, living a traditional life based on fishing and tourism, a small-scale tourism that fits with the environmental vision of the inhabitants who are in the process of having the area declared, “protected ecological zone†by the Federal Government. A number of restaurants at the mouth of the lagoon offer the usual sea fare, fresh fruits and cerveza muy fria. They close at dusk but you can have tacos in the village later on.
It is also a fisherman’s paradise: from the shore, in the lagoon, further at sea and the catch varies: tuna, mahi mahi, red snappers, crabs.
Sailing and sea kayaking are some of the other sports practiced in the bay.The sunsets are spectacular,of course, and made more interesting by the birds flying across the bay at dusk.
The Barra de Potosi animal refuge center, "El Refugio", is a couple miles down the road and well worth the visit for children and adults alike : exotic birds ,iguanas ,butterflies, and snakes ,are on display. Some of the animals are there to recover from illness or injuries ,others are permanent residents.

East Hampton, New YorkFantastico!
Left on 03/02/2013 for a stay in February 2013
What a wonderful slice of heaven! The house is perfect- location unsurpassed- on the ocean with the pool and constant breezes. Nothing better than going to sleep with the sound of the ocean just outside. We loved being able to walk out the door to the beach and into town. Only complaint is that we didn't have more time to stay and relax. We would love to return. Perfect antidote to February on the East Coast! thank you...

Casa Paz is just that. A house of peace! Spacious rooms with everything you need, including the most precious caretakers, Tito and Carmen. The house is light and simply furnished, not "overdone" with decoration, which we liked. Sliding doors with screens in every room filling the house with the ocean air. The kitchen is well equipped. We cooked several meals while just a minute's walk to the "enramadas" on the beach for delicious meals of fish right out of the waters that day. The little town of Barra de Potosi is right there too, making it very easy to purchase whatever we needed, including getting a haircut, a pedicure and cool cotton shorts and dresses - without having to drive. A fruit and vegetable truck arrives a few times a week. So, we were all set. And, we saw whales!
Casa Paz is a perfect choice for anyone's beach vacation. -

This place is very special. You will experience the luxury of a designer home that incorporates materials and textures that reflect Mexican culture - located within steps of an authentic, vibrant, welcoming and safe Mexican village (Barra de Potosi). You can keep to yourself or mingle as much as you want with village residents - they may even invite you over for dinner.
The location is unparalleled. You can stay local and enjoy beachside enmaradas, buy your fruit and veges from the vege truck, and arrange for tours with locals from the village. Or you are 20 minutes from Zihua which has all the modern conveniences - big grocery stores and markets. And on your way to Zihua you will pass through mango groves, a wildlife reserve with local crafts and stunning beach vistas.
The caretakers of this property are part of the fabric of the nearby village and are perhaps the best ambassadors of Mexican life that you will ever meet. Their service to guests is impeccable.
You will not find an experience like this anywhere else. The combination of a beautiful home, beachside location and proximity to genuine Mexican culture makes this an outstanding holiday destination in every way.

First of all, everything about this place is gorgeous, the house, the bay, the water. It was so calming. The huse seals off whem you want it to or is open to the great view of the water. There are many restaurants on the beach just a few yards away but if you walk the opporiste direction, there is almost nobody. You get the whole beach to yourself.
The town is very small and shuts down fairly early so don't expect bars or nightlife but there are some small restaurants that serve delicious food. The people in particular have that small town, everybody knows everybody, relaxed feel and are very nice. Tito and his family who take care of the place are awesome and super attentive.
I felt totally safe the whole time and just really had a chance to rejuvenate. If that is what you are looking for, or birding, fishing and nature, I would highly recommend this place. -

Beautiful spot next to tiny village. On the beach - people to talk to - cafes to eat at - swimming is excellent. Kayak in lagoon, look at the mangroves and birds and enjoy life.
House is comfortable with all you need. Lovely garden and pool.

Over our wedding anniversary my wife and I stayed at this beautiful house in a fantastic location. The house has all the amenities one could want to make for a wonderful stay. One is just steps from the beach and a pool add an added option. Fresh fish abounds and all of one's senses are stimulated. After a stay in Casa Paz one is totally refreshed and at peace. I heartily recommend it.

Casa Paz is perfectly situated looking over the Pacific. Sunsets were gorgeous and the spacious outdoor living space allowed us have cocktails and meals alfresco every day. The pool was delightful and the lush grounds beautifully kept. Bird life is abundant and a lovely wildlife reserve is nearby. The local fishermen were fun to watch and the long beach is a pleasure to walk. We highly recommend this elegant, comfortable house to anyone looking for a relaxing retreat.

a beautiful airy large home set in tropical gardens with the beach at your front door. Newly built and modern home was the perfect place to unwind and relax. The beauty of Barra de Potosi is it's proximity to an airport (Ixtapa) yet it is far away from the regular tourist crowds. If you are looking for a home on the beach Casa Paz is the perfect place to stay. We highly recommend it.

First, the house is bueatiful and comfortable at the same time. We brought our entire family and this house was always the center of activities. Everyone congregated here either at the pool, large covered patio, living room or kitchen. The ocean, just out the door, is great for kids and adults because it is shallow and allows one to walk out into it with no sudden drop offs. The small town and its restaurants a short walk down the beach greatly increases eating options. We fell in love with this place and will come back.

San Miguel de Allende, GTO, MexicoA Week to Remember
Left on 02/17/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We had the good fortune of celebrating a 70th birthday in January, at this beautiful beach house. The entire week was the most relaxing time I've had in years. The sound of the waves at night, the continual ocean breeze, walking on the beach, watching the sunset, and hanging around in hammocks really does the trick to unwind and lose all sense of time. So much beauty inside and outside this home keeps you continually awed by nature and the connection to the environment whether you are inside or outside the house. I have never seen a staircase as beautiful as this one in this home. The wood work throughout the entire house is stunning.
I would go back to this home and this beach in a minute! And will highly recommend it to family and friends. The listing photos are accurate but cannot do this place justice because you just have to experience it to really understand the beauty.
