Little Island House sits at the tip of a peninsula in Bass Harbor.
The lawn rolls to beach roses and the water's edge; flower beds and
sweet peas grace your comings and goings. Beside the house is a 350'
dock which you are welcome to stroll with early morning coffee, a rod
and reel, or binoculars. Or just stand on your deck: mountains to
the north; fishing boats lying at their moorings, the hillside village
of Bernard, and sunset to the west; and the outer islands and open
ocean to the south.

The house is very clean and well maintained. The views are very entertaining. Little Island House has the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.

Acadia has been calling us back for many years. We've stayed in hotels, bed and breakfasts and an apartment in SW Harbor. But Little Island House is the best! The harbor is the most interesting on acadia. You have views of lobster boats, sailing vessels, wildlife and plain folks making their living from the sea. You really get a birds eye view of seafaring life in Maine.
And the house is perfect. The kitchen is well equipped for those who like to boil lobster, make gumbo or grill a steak.
It's been the best 3 weeks we've spent on Mt. Desert Island. Since we are almost 80 years old, I don't know if we will return but we have great memories of the time spent at the Little Island House. -

The Little Island House is the perfect place to stay when you journey to Maine. It is located in Bass Harbor, which is a peaceful village where lobster fishermen and women come and go. Less than a block from the house is a place to purchase crab and live lobster which you can steam in a kitchen which has Everything you could possibly need. If you are not interested in cooking, a wharf restaurant is close by and will meet your every need. The bed and bedding were perfect. Everything was very comfortable. From your little house, you can quickly jump to other villages and acadia National Park. My favorite part was sitting on the porch watching boats come in and out of the harbor. We also took a boat trip which left from the dock near the house. We saw the part of Maine that you can only see from a boat.
