Home away from home
The Old Smithy Loft is truly like finding a home away from home. It has all the conveniences, great style, furnishings and comfort of a home yet it is located wonderfully in a quiet section of Bath. Easy walks to great shopping, restaurants, and Roman Baths. I'm telling all my friends about it!
Beautiful apartment centrally located
Individual classically styled serene apartment centrally:
- centrally located in historic Bath.
Ideal for a romantic break.

Bath is a wonderful place to visit, wonderful sites, shops & eateries. The Old Smithy Loft made the experience even more wonderful. We will definitely be back for another dose... The description of The Old Smithy included en suite bathrooms, there is only one bathroom. (2 double bedrooms).
A beautiful and comfortable place to stay
A tastefully furnished, clean and very comfortable loft in an ideal location.
Only a ten minute stroll to the centre of Bath and lovely and quiet at night with no traffic noise!
Admirable attention to detail and my daughter very much enjoyed the novelty of having a television in her room.
We wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Smithy to all discerning travellers.

The flat was perfect, cozy and quiet with everything nearby.
We loved the flat-there were three adults-all very comfortable and cozy-weather was cold so it was nice to have good heat. The kitchen is fabulous-all new and easy to work in-we ate lunches out and dinner in which worked out well-it took a little time to become familiar with tha appliances-never really figured out the dishwasher-perhaps a few more simple instructions would help-lovely touches with sherry and sweets and flowers to greet us-also a good parking spot for the car. the location was superb-near to all in Bath but quiet for sleeping.
Lovely place to stay.
The apartment was a superb base for our 4/5 day stay in Bath. The location was very good. Just 10 minute walk from the city centre. We arrived at the apartment in very cold weather, but the apartment was cosy and welcoming. There was an arrival package of essentials, ie bread, milk, jam and a glass of port, which went down well and a nice touch. We arrived early (check in 16:00hrs) but received a text to my mobile telling me that the room was ready for occupation, this was at 14:30 hrs and again another nice touch.
The apartment itself was comfortable, clean and had everything we required for our 4 day stay.It had a super king size bed in the master bed room , which was very comfortable, their is a second bed room which too had a good size double bed. There was a lot of information about Bath, what to do and where to eat, which we used. On the whole, when we go away on city breaks, we do like to stay in apartments instead of hotels (we do not like to be tied down by breakfast times etc), this apartment is up their with the best apartments we have stayed in. Iwould recommend the apartment to anyone wishing for a comfortable break in Bath.
Stylish Private and Yours
A short walk from the centre, a hidden gem. The owners have this apartment in pristine condition. two bedrooms, lounge and kitchen all to yourself. Basics provisions provided for you and a sweet sherry to warm you up! Worth every penny. See you soon
A Truely amazing apartment
The moment I stepped into The old smithy loft. I was blown away by the eye to detail of the design and feel. It was really such a well put together place. With little hidden delights. I had booked the place for Valentines Day for me and my fiancee. And boy did this apartment the experience. Roses were in a vase when we got there, which gave me even more brownie points. It's so close to bath centre too, so you can go out on adventure sight seeing and then be back for lunch. Great kitchen more than enough features to cook any dish we thought up. I couldnt recomend more if you want to stay in bath in style and comfort.
Very nice and cosy flat, one of the best getaways we had.

Shame you missed the Bath Half which is happening this weekend. The city really comes alive. However, you clearly enjoyed the Bath Thermae Spa and the other offerings of the City. Do come back and thanks for writing The Old Smithy Loft up...Ann
Home from home
We visited for two nights in snowy January and found this to be a supremely warm, comfortable bolt hole. Having Tesco Metro round the corner and the restaurants and shops of the centre of Bath just a stroll away, made this a really convenient spot. (No steep hills to worry about in the ice!)
It's equipped with everything you might need, the key code access makes arrival and departure quick and simple and the nibbles provided were a great touch.
We'd stay again - much more relaxing than a hotel.
Response from Ann Stewart - 02/13/2013
The weather has certainly been testing this year so far but am v pleased you enjoyed The Old Smithy which as you say is an excellent bolt hole. Do look at the Visit Bath website for all the info on what is happening and Bath ..and there is a lot. Best wishes Ann
What a fantastic find!
Beautifully furnished, fully fitted out kitchen, a huge comfy bed with lovely linens, great bath for relaxing... sherry and nibbles on arrival with welcome stuff in the fridge. What a treat. A great spot with a 10 minute stroll to the city centre. A Tesco express is just round the corner for any essentials you might need, and there's lots of information about the locality/tourist stuff available in the flat. Highly recommended.
Response from Ann Stewart - 02/13/2013
Very glad you were comfortable and enjoyed your stay. Oxford is a short train journey away so i do hope you come back again. Once you have visited Bath there is always the Saxon town of Bradford on Avon, the various National Trust
properties - Lacock, Prior Park, Westonbirt, Cheddar Groge and Longleat all within easy access. Anyway have fun. Best wishes Ann
Just come back from staying at this wonderful apartment, as soon as you walk in you feel like you are on holiday, the place is decorated to a high standard, it is welcoming and feels luxurious, it is an easy 10 min walk from the centre of Bath, we had a fantastic time here and would thoroughly recommend it
Response from Ann Stewart - 01/20/2013
Thank you for the review. Delighted you had a happy time at the apartment. Sorry you could only stay for 2 days..there is so much to in Bath..endless festivals , shopping and with the new South gate centre many more restaurants. Have fun Ann
Brilliant location, clean, comfortable and with everything you could possibly need. Highly recommended!
Perfect cosy hideway in Bath
We spent a wonderful 3 days at the loft over the xmas period. It was a lovely surprise to find a decanter of Port/Sherry on our arrival and as well as the basics such as milk and bread and more importantly Brownies. The apartment was fantastic - very modern and superbly furnished. The pictures do not do it justice. The loft was within walkiing distance of the main sights and the shopping centre. It is advisable to get a taxi if you have luggage. I loved the apartment and can't think of anything negative to say, apart from my stay was too short!! I will be back.
Response from Ann Stewart - 01/20/2013
I look forward to welcoming you again. The Loft has only been open for visitors for 6 months so your response was very encouraging. If you are planning on coming for any special event, it would be wise to book early. See visit bath.co.uk Best wishes
Home from Home
We are really glad we chose this flat for our recent stay in Bath. It was comfortable, beautifully appointed and within 15mins walk to the abbey. A welcome pack including milk, bread, butter and tea/coffee as well as sherry and home made nibbles was just a lovely surprise.Anyone staying here will be sure to enjoy their visit.
A real gem - luxuriously furnished and in an ideal location
We love this place - a luxurious oasis, perfect for a romantic weekend treat in the beautiful city of Bath. It's a few minutes walk into the city centre, which is perfect. Quiet road with no traffic and a parking space.
The second bedroom means it's also ideal for a family or two couples.
This was our second visit and I wondered if the number of guests in the intervening 5 months would have lead to some wear and tear, but it is absolutely wonderfully maintained.
The decor, fixtures, fittings, furnishings and bed linen are all of great quality and tastefully done throughout. There are too many extra little touches to mention all, but the welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, cakes and sherry along with a supply of tea bags and coffee take the stress out of arriving late and the shops being closed.
Fully equipped kitchen again with lovely fittings and top quality appliances, no silly half-sized stuff. You'd have no trouble living here for weeks - it would be an absolute delight. We will definitely return (again) and would thoroughly recommend. It's also worth noting that the owner is also extremely helpful, so all in all fantastic. I wouldn't bother trying to find anywhere else to stay in Bath. The Old Smithy Loft is close to perfect!

Hi Jeremy I am delighted you enjoyed yourself so much that you wanted to come back again. It was a real treat for me. Your comments are very flattering. There is so much going on in Bath all the time worth looking up the various activities with the Bach Festival in February, Music Festival in June , Jane Austen in September , Mozart in November and of course the Christmas Market in Nov/Dec.
Do come back again. Best of the festive to you both.....Ann
Excellent position, lovely apartment, offroad parking
Booking was very straight forward, and the apartment easily accessible. Self catering was a great advantage, and the kitchen is super - as were the bathroom and bedrooms. Very spacious too. A ready walk down to the centre of town, yet quiet after hours. Strongly recommended.
Response from Ann Stewart - 12/19/2012
HI there from the Big Pond
So pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you so much for the photographs. Do hope you come back and do stay slightly longer...2 days in Bath is simply not enough with all the new activities. Look up Visit Bath.co.uk and you will find out when all the festivals are on.

Highly recommend this flat
Loved this flat and would definitely stay here again. Spotlessly clean remodeled two bedroom flat very close to Bath. Convenient private parking space right outside the door, but we never used the car as it only took about 10 minutes walk to the weir and about 12 -15 minutes to be in the main shopping center. We ate out every night with ann providing us great dinner recommendations. The flat has a full range kitchen providing every convenience, with unexpected extras like dishwasher, washing machine and a freezer. The large dinning area is an added bonus that would be great for a long stay where you needed to entertain or eat in regularly. Nice cozy living room where you can snuggle in front of the imitation fire and read a book or watch TV. The bedrooms are a good size with comfortable beds and nice bathroom. We would highly recommend this flat to anyone wanting a nicely appointed, very stylish, but comfortable place to stay in easy walking distance to the center of Bath.
Response from Ann Stewart - 12/19/2012
So pleased you had such a good time. Holidays whether short breaks or long breaks are so important to us all. I only converted the Old Smithy Loft this summer and it is proving very popular and of course there is so much going on in Bath all the time that there is always something new to do, whether it is one of the Festivals or the new developments at the Roman B aths (my favourite), Museum of Costume or indeed the Thermae Spa. The culture too is good - always worth looking at the Theatre Royal programme - we get a lot of pre London runs which are excellent.
Please do come again. Ann
Stunning apartment, Fantastic location in Bath City Centre
This apartment is stunning and so centrally located with less than a 10 minute walk to the centre of Bath. Everything you could need is in the apartment and it is beautifully furnished. It was brillantly warm and cosy against the cold weather when we visited and it was a complete joy to stay. We have been raving about it to all our friends and family and hope to stay again in the future. Many thanks ann.

So pleased you enjoyed it. It gives me great pleasure to feel I have made a contribution to guess's holiday experiences. You might be interested to know that The Old Smithy Loft has just been graded 4 Star with a Gold Award for Special Welcome by Visit England .
Bath is now constantly changing with huge investment from the City Council so well worth coming again and checking the Visit bath website for the year's activities.

Absolutely first rate!!
The Old Smithy Loft is an absolutely lovely two bedroom self catered apartment - the attention to detail is outstanding! It's a short, 10 minute walk from the center of Bath. It was incredibly clean and comfortable and terrific value for money.
Highly, highly recommended!!
very thoughtfully appointed
i recently stayed in the old smithy loft for four nights. the apartment is recently renovated and has been very thoughtfully appointed with everything one might require during a short stay. whilst there are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity, it is only a 10 minute walk into the centre of bath. the owner is not living on site but was easily contactable whenever we had questions. there is a tesco express within a two minute walk and a well equipped kitchen.

Quality at the Loft.
Traveling from australia, I was looking forward to staying at The Old Smithy Loft, Bath. The website photos did not disappoint, and were exactly as shown.
A great location with a Tesco Express around the corner, and a ten minute walk to the City, and a Waitrose store (one of my favorites).
The quality of the furniture etc,is excellent and the welcome pack is a bonus. Plenty of TVs in the Loft and WiFi is good,
just park your car and discover Bath by foot.We would have liked to stay more than our two days ,but we had to move on.
For us Old Smithy Loft is the place to stay in Bath for quality and value for money.

Fabulously appointed apartment in the centre of Bath!
It's not often that you find a gem like this. The location was brilliant - the parking was such a bonus. The apartment was comfortable, and great for relaxing. We'd definitely return there again.

Fantastic little apartment in a lovely central location
After a long drive down to Bath we had the perfect reception - easy parking, instant access to the apartment, a plate of chocolate brownies and a decanter of sherry! The apartment is very welcoming, with a good use of the available space and every consideration to the comfort of the guest. The kitchen was well equipped and appliances such as the iron were easy to find. The Sydney Wharf location is perfect, the surrounding area is very picturesque, especially the canal and Sydney Gardens and it is also a very short walk from the city centre along the beautiful Great Pulteney Street.
We really enjoyed our weekend there and have already recommended it to family and friends.
Wonderful - Chic, Stylish - Home from home
Wow, what can I say. The Old Smithy is a wonderful place. it is beautifully decorated - chic - stylish, with a touch of elegance but also has a homely feel. I felt right at home here. There was a welcoming gift of Flapjacks and Brownies and for those of you who like Sherry, that too. It was lovely to have Tea/Coffee to hand with fresh milk, bread, butter and Jam for the weary traveller. There is a Tesco express around the corner to stock up with. The rooms are superbly equipped with little extra personal touches. All the amenities you could ask for. The Icing on the cake for me was being able to park the car right outside the front door. The cottage is covenient to town, only a short walk away. A lovely location. Sidney Gardens is just down the road or if you fancy a walk along the canal, that too is just around the corner. I thoroughly recommended staying here. I fell in love with this place. I have booked it again twice next year. A weekend in april and 10 days in Sept.
Could not fault it at all
Response from Ann Stewart - 10/15/2012
Hi Lady Austen I am so glad you liked the apartment enough to want to come back and are happy to tell others about it.
See you in April
Tolle Wohnung - gute Lage
Best B&B; ever ...
Thank you very much for this lovely and nice host. This B&B; apartment with this top typical english style, has a so loving atmosphere. The apartment is centrally located, in a quiet byroad and is our "new" favorite place in England. In Bath we had our best vacation time. Absolutely recommendable!!
Response from Ann Stewart - 10/10/2012
Very try kind of you to write us up in such glowing terms. Do hope you come back.

Wow! What a find.
An immaculate, stylish two bedroomed apartment sleeping four people. Well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Comfy beds, thick fluffy towels, plenty of hot water and a number of hospitality items which were very welcome on arrival - from tea/coffee/milk etc to sherry, brownies and flap jacks. The property is 10 minutes walk into the centre of Bath or a bit more via the scenic route along the canal. As there is reserved parking outside the front door we abandoned the car for the duration of our stay. The apartment is on the first floor so may be a problem for those who have difficulty with stairs.
Wonderful "home away from home"!
This was the best place we stayed anywhere! Everything was new and good quality, including furniture and appliances. Especially nice was the personal touches, such as the owner's welcome note and some of her favorite sherry! Since the apartment was the only one in the building, it felt very private. It was a short walking distance to the center of Bath - very convenient. The parking space was small, but at least we didn't have to find parking on the street! Overall, this was a perfect place to stay in Bath!
Response from Ann Stewart - 09/21/2012
so pleased you enjoyed your stay Teresa ..hope you can come back!
Charming, newly renovated and convenient location - terrific
We were travelling from australia and expected to view water from the address "Sydney Wharf", so we got a bit lost, however once we located Smithy's Loft we were delightd with the lovely newly renovated, upstairs self contained unit. Lots of room and beautifully appointed - this place was created with class and a lot of love - just like a home away from home.Anne and Ian were exceptionally helpful and friendly. They are not on site, however when we had questions they were both easy to contact.
Idyllic retreat in the heart of the wonderful city of Bath
I can't praise The Old Smithy Loft enough. I stayed here in Bath for a nice weekend away with a few girlfriends. The decor and furniture are modern however still in keeping with the quaint 'englishness' of the property. The location is ideal as it is only a ten minute stroll into the heart of Bath - great for the shops and for evening dinner and drinks. The property was immaculate and it was evident the owner took alot of time and care into providing an ideal base for visitors. I recommend the Old Smithy Loft to anyone who wants a good quality, convenient yet quiet spot when visiting Bath
Response from Ann Stewart - 10/07/2012
How very kind of you to post this. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. Do come back. Best wishes
The Old Smithy Loft is absolutely gorgeous.
Beautifully decorated, really clean and superbly equipped. Close to the city centre with parking. The welcome basket plus flapjacks, brownies and sherry were a lovley extra. Difficult to beat!
Perth Western Australia
comfortable stay in luxury. Will be first on our list for accommo
The service was spot on via emails etc.On arrival some lovely produce to get started i.e. bread milk tea coffee even truffles with half decanter of port...wonderful.the location was great as it was a ten minute walk from the city centre which we loved as we escaped the traffic noise tucked away down the lane. There is a tesco express two minutes away for groceries and beer and wine ,no need to move the car at all once you arrive at the old smithy lodge. The best thing was the quality of everything at the loft ,bedding ,towels etc.the worse thing was we had to leave. We would chose the loft over any b&b; when we visit Bath again.
Highlight accomodation of our trip!
Ann made us feel so incredibly welcome. The "home" is beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable. There was nothing else needed!!!
Compared to our previous and then following accomodation, we were totally spoiled at The Old Smithy
Not cheap - but definitely worth it! Cannot rate it highly enough
Make sure you stroll along the canal locks just behind the Old Smithy; waste a half day at the Thermae Spa; and head to the Huntsman Pub for the evening Comedy Walk. Not on the same day - take several days.
Bath is stunning - make sure you choose this accomodation to suit...
Fantastic - would recommend to anyone.
We had a great weekend staying at The Old Smithy Loft as a family. It is beautifully presented and very thoughtfully equipped with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, iron, TVs in both bedrooms etc. It is clearly owned by somebody who wants the guests to feel at home from the moment they step foot inside...
The walk to the centre of Bath is lovely, so there is no need to worry about driving anywhere once you have parked up in the space provided, immediately adjacent to the property.
We will be back.
Cosy and relaxing experience
It was modern clean and all appliances and kitchen equipment needed
With easy walking distance to town and close to bus routes
We liked the way everything you needed was there and very homely
Ocean Grove, Australia
Perfectly comfortable, spotless and homely stay
The Old Smithy Loft is the perfect place for a comfortable respite. What a gorgeous apartment with such attention to detail including cereal, milk and hot beverages. The apartment is spotless and charming with beautiful furnishings. A car park is provided at the door which is convenient. It is walking distance to the city centre where all the attractions are and just 2 minutes walk away there is the river with all the canal boats which, when they go through the locks is such an interesting sight. There is a lovely walkway along the river too. This apartment is perfect and has everything you need that you may wish to add a day so you can enjoy relaxing in the environment.
