Additional Location Information
You would not believe you were in the centre of Bath. In its day, Sydney Wharf beside the Kennet and Avon Canal was a hive of activity with the Old Smithy Loft, being part of the wharf boatyard. Now peace and quiet reigns away from the noisy buzz of the city centre just 5 minutes away.
The building in original Bath stone is Grade 2 listed.
The entrance to the Old Smithy Loft from the stone flagged car parking area is totally private and the staircase leads up to the airy, calm but thoughtfully designed and stylishly comfortable loft apartment.
Canal narrow boats and cycles are for hire just round the corner. The canal, the towpath, the Holburne Museum recently renovated and home to many Gainsboroughs and a lovely café) and Sydney Gardens as well as the delights of the city are all within 5 minutes walking distance. Sham Castle Golf Club is a short drive away (5mins)
A stroll into the city centre takes you along Great Pulteney Street, the most classic street of Bath, a Unesco World Heritage site, and once there, every historic, cultural and culinary treat is within a stone’s throw: Bath Abbey dating back to William the Conqueror, the Roman Baths, The Thermae Spa Spa Shopping treats abound and when your legs are weary a Sally Lunn bun at Bath's oldest coffee shop.
Within easy reach are many National Trust Properties, Prior Park,Bowood, Lacock,Stourhead and Westonbirt as well as Longleat, the Saxon town of Bradford on Avon and Stonehenge and Cheddar Gorge.
Free off road parking for 1 large car (2 small) adjacent to the Old Smithy Loft is available. Bus and train stations are maximum 10 minutes walk away.

The Old Smithy Loft is truly like finding a home away from home. It has all the conveniences, great style, furnishings and comfort of a home yet it is located wonderfully in a quiet section of Bath. Easy walks to great shopping, restaurants, and Roman Baths. I'm telling all my friends about it!

Bath is a wonderful place to visit, wonderful sites, shops & eateries. The Old Smithy Loft made the experience even more wonderful. We will definitely be back for another dose... The description of The Old Smithy included en suite bathrooms, there is only one bathroom. (2 double bedrooms).

A tastefully furnished, clean and very comfortable loft in an ideal location.
Only a ten minute stroll to the centre of Bath and lovely and quiet at night with no traffic noise!
Admirable attention to detail and my daughter very much enjoyed the novelty of having a television in her room.
We wouldn't hesitate in recommending the Smithy to all discerning travellers. -

Left on 04/03/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We loved the flat-there were three adults-all very comfortable and cozy-weather was cold so it was nice to have good heat. The kitchen is fabulous-all new and easy to work in-we ate lunches out and dinner in which worked out well-it took a little time to become familiar with tha appliances-never really figured out the dishwasher-perhaps a few more simple instructions would help-lovely touches with sherry and sweets and flowers to greet us-also a good parking spot for the car. the location was superb-near to all in Bath but quiet for sleeping.

Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in March 2013
The apartment was a superb base for our 4/5 day stay in Bath. The location was very good. Just 10 minute walk from the city centre. We arrived at the apartment in very cold weather, but the apartment was cosy and welcoming. There was an arrival package of essentials, ie bread, milk, jam and a glass of port, which went down well and a nice touch. We arrived early (check in 16:00hrs) but received a text to my mobile telling me that the room was ready for occupation, this was at 14:30 hrs and again another nice touch.
The apartment itself was comfortable, clean and had everything we required for our 4 day stay.It had a super king size bed in the master bed room , which was very comfortable, their is a second bed room which too had a good size double bed. There was a lot of information about Bath, what to do and where to eat, which we used. On the whole, when we go away on city breaks, we do like to stay in apartments instead of hotels (we do not like to be tied down by breakfast times etc), this apartment is up their with the best apartments we have stayed in. Iwould recommend the apartment to anyone wishing for a comfortable break in Bath. -

Left on 02/27/2013 for a stay in February 2013
The moment I stepped into The old smithy loft. I was blown away by the eye to detail of the design and feel. It was really such a well put together place. With little hidden delights. I had booked the place for Valentines Day for me and my fiancee. And boy did this apartment the experience. Roses were in a vase when we got there, which gave me even more brownie points. It's so close to bath centre too, so you can go out on adventure sight seeing and then be back for lunch. Great kitchen more than enough features to cook any dish we thought up. I couldnt recomend more if you want to stay in bath in style and comfort.

We visited for two nights in snowy January and found this to be a supremely warm, comfortable bolt hole. Having Tesco Metro round the corner and the restaurants and shops of the centre of Bath just a stroll away, made this a really convenient spot. (No steep hills to worry about in the ice!)
It's equipped with everything you might need, the key code access makes arrival and departure quick and simple and the nibbles provided were a great touch.
We'd stay again - much more relaxing than a hotel.Response from Ann Stewart - 02/13/2013

The weather has certainly been testing this year so far but am v pleased you enjoyed The Old Smithy which as you say is an excellent bolt hole. Do look at the Visit Bath website for all the info on what is happening and Bath ..and there is a lot. Best wishes Ann

Beautifully furnished, fully fitted out kitchen, a huge comfy bed with lovely linens, great bath for relaxing... sherry and nibbles on arrival with welcome stuff in the fridge. What a treat. A great spot with a 10 minute stroll to the city centre. A Tesco express is just round the corner for any essentials you might need, and there's lots of information about the locality/tourist stuff available in the flat. Highly recommended.

We spent a wonderful 3 days at the loft over the xmas period. It was a lovely surprise to find a decanter of Port/Sherry on our arrival and as well as the basics such as milk and bread and more importantly Brownies. The apartment was fantastic - very modern and superbly furnished. The pictures do not do it justice. The loft was within walkiing distance of the main sights and the shopping centre. It is advisable to get a taxi if you have luggage. I loved the apartment and can't think of anything negative to say, apart from my stay was too short!! I will be back.

WarwickshireA real gem - luxuriously furnished and in an ideal location
Left on 12/19/2012 for a stay in December 2012
We love this place - a luxurious oasis, perfect for a romantic weekend treat in the beautiful city of Bath. It's a few minutes walk into the city centre, which is perfect. Quiet road with no traffic and a parking space.
The second bedroom means it's also ideal for a family or two couples.
This was our second visit and I wondered if the number of guests in the intervening 5 months would have lead to some wear and tear, but it is absolutely wonderfully maintained.
The decor, fixtures, fittings, furnishings and bed linen are all of great quality and tastefully done throughout. There are too many extra little touches to mention all, but the welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, cakes and sherry along with a supply of tea bags and coffee take the stress out of arriving late and the shops being closed.
Great shower.
Fully equipped kitchen again with lovely fittings and top quality appliances, no silly half-sized stuff. You'd have no trouble living here for weeks - it would be an absolute delight. We will definitely return (again) and would thoroughly recommend. It's also worth noting that the owner is also extremely helpful, so all in all fantastic. I wouldn't bother trying to find anywhere else to stay in Bath. The Old Smithy Loft is close to perfect!Response from Ann Stewart - 12/19/2012

Hi Jeremy I am delighted you enjoyed yourself so much that you wanted to come back again. It was a real treat for me. Your comments are very flattering. There is so much going on in Bath all the time worth looking up the various activities with the Bach Festival in February, Music Festival in June , Jane Austen in September , Mozart in November and of course the Christmas Market in Nov/Dec.
Do come back again. Best of the festive to you both.....Ann

Left on 12/17/2012 for a stay in December 2012
Loved this flat and would definitely stay here again. Spotlessly clean remodeled two bedroom flat very close to Bath. Convenient private parking space right outside the door, but we never used the car as it only took about 10 minutes walk to the weir and about 12 -15 minutes to be in the main shopping center. We ate out every night with ann providing us great dinner recommendations. The flat has a full range kitchen providing every convenience, with unexpected extras like dishwasher, washing machine and a freezer. The large dinning area is an added bonus that would be great for a long stay where you needed to entertain or eat in regularly. Nice cozy living room where you can snuggle in front of the imitation fire and read a book or watch TV. The bedrooms are a good size with comfortable beds and nice bathroom. We would highly recommend this flat to anyone wanting a nicely appointed, very stylish, but comfortable place to stay in easy walking distance to the center of Bath.

HI there
So pleased you had such a good time. Holidays whether short breaks or long breaks are so important to us all. I only converted the Old Smithy Loft this summer and it is proving very popular and of course there is so much going on in Bath all the time that there is always something new to do, whether it is one of the Festivals or the new developments at the Roman B aths (my favourite), Museum of Costume or indeed the Thermae Spa. The culture too is good - always worth looking at the Theatre Royal programme - we get a lot of pre London runs which are excellent.
Please do come again. Ann -

Left on 10/15/2012 for a stay in October 2012
After a long drive down to Bath we had the perfect reception - easy parking, instant access to the apartment, a plate of chocolate brownies and a decanter of sherry! The apartment is very welcoming, with a good use of the available space and every consideration to the comfort of the guest. The kitchen was well equipped and appliances such as the iron were easy to find. The Sydney Wharf location is perfect, the surrounding area is very picturesque, especially the canal and Sydney Gardens and it is also a very short walk from the city centre along the beautiful Great Pulteney Street.
We really enjoyed our weekend there and have already recommended it to family and friends. -

Wow, what can I say. The Old Smithy is a wonderful place. it is beautifully decorated - chic - stylish, with a touch of elegance but also has a homely feel. I felt right at home here. There was a welcoming gift of Flapjacks and Brownies and for those of you who like Sherry, that too. It was lovely to have Tea/Coffee to hand with fresh milk, bread, butter and Jam for the weary traveller. There is a Tesco express around the corner to stock up with. The rooms are superbly equipped with little extra personal touches. All the amenities you could ask for. The Icing on the cake for me was being able to park the car right outside the front door. The cottage is covenient to town, only a short walk away. A lovely location. Sidney Gardens is just down the road or if you fancy a walk along the canal, that too is just around the corner. I thoroughly recommended staying here. I fell in love with this place. I have booked it again twice next year. A weekend in april and 10 days in Sept.

Comfy beds, thick fluffy towels, plenty of hot water and a number of hospitality items which were very welcome on arrival - from tea/coffee/milk etc to sherry, brownies and flap jacks. The property is 10 minutes walk into the centre of Bath or a bit more via the scenic route along the canal. As there is reserved parking outside the front door we abandoned the car for the duration of our stay. The apartment is on the first floor so may be a problem for those who have difficulty with stairs.

This was the best place we stayed anywhere! Everything was new and good quality, including furniture and appliances. Especially nice was the personal touches, such as the owner's welcome note and some of her favorite sherry! Since the apartment was the only one in the building, it felt very private. I can't praise The Old Smithy Loft enough. I stayed here in Bath for a nice weekend away with a few girlfriends. The decor and furniture are modern however still in keeping with the quaint 'englishness' of the property. The location is ideal as it is only a ten minute stroll into the heart of Bath - great for the shops and for evening dinner and drinks. The property was immaculate and it was evident the owner took alot of time and care into providing an ideal base for visitors. Not cheap - but definitely worth it! Cannot rate it highly enough
Make sure you stroll along the canal locks just behind the Old Smithy; waste a half day at the Thermae Spa; and head to the Huntsman Pub for the evening Comedy Walk. Not on the same day - take several days.
