Description from the owner
Bear Valley is a wonderful mountain resort in the High Sierras between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. The village is located on the all weather highway 4; known as the Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway. The area offers a variety of activities from snowshoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling in the winter, to hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and fishing in the summer. We are surrounded by the Carson Iceberg and Mokelumne Wilderness areas which are known as the Alps of California. We have our own lake in Bear Valley and there are several other granite lined lakes within a few driving miles of the village.

Visalia, CACharming, Well-Appointed, Cozy Log Cabin in a Great Location
Left on 04/10/2013 for a stay in March 2013
Loved the cabin. Everything was perfect. All the comforts of home but with great mountain ambience. Super comfortable beds, everything updated, immaculate, well-stocked with everything you need. Short walk to Bear Valley Village shops and restaurants. We stayed in late March in a bad snow year. Cross-country skiing was still good, downhill icy/slushy, so the downhillers in our group drove a half hour down the mountain to golf in arnold. Can't think of many places where you can ski and golf in the same day! We spent one afternoon and evening in charming Murphys, wine-tasting and had a fantastic dinner at Grounds. Gary and Jeri are wonderful, responsive rental owners, in my experience, much better to work with than rental companies. The only thing that was a bit of a hassle was the fact that you can't drive right to the cabin in winter months, when the roads are "groomed" for ski-in access - not plowed. When I called to make a reservation with the snowmobile transport people just off the cabin parking lot at Bear, I was told the cabin was practically right off the parking lot - to just walk to the cabin and get the two sleds on the front porch, load up our stuff and pull the sleds to the cabin. Trudging through the snow, dragging the ice chest and luggage-laden sleds was not easy, but we got some great exercise. I would highly recommend using the transport service to get in and out of the cabin during the winter (I believe the cost is around $25 each way). Or, if you have multiple couples or families who can split the cost of renting a snowmobile...that would be the best scenario. If you don't have a snowmobile, be prepared to do some walking in the snow from cabin to parking lot/facilities. Still, we didn't find it a huge hassle. We would definitely rent the cabin again in winter or summer. Love the area. So much to do, so beautiful. Thank you Gary and Jeri.

SausalitoA Weekend Reminiscing
Left on 03/08/2013 for a stay in August 2011
This is a long overdue review of our two night stay back in august 2011. We live in the Bay area but are very familiar with Bear Valley and the surrounding area. We needed overnight accommodations in order to attend a memorial service for a dear friend who had resided in Bear Valley in the 1980's. We were looking for space for 6 adults and found this lovely cabin on FlipKey. Owner Gary was quick to communicate and booking was easy. The place is easy to find (summertime) and within walking distance of the Lodge and gas station services. The cabin has just about anything and everything you could need - the owners have done a great job in providing all the amenities a renter could every need. Morning coffee on the back deck had a zen quality - the backyard was filled to the brim with wildflowers, butterflies, chirping birds and glorious sun. We had forgotten how quiet it is in the high mountains and how many stars are visible in the night sky. We had a wonderful stay reminiscing with old friends and this comfortable cabin made it all the more memorable. We are looking forward to booking this gem again!
Thank You Gary and Jeri!

San RafaelWintervacation at this cabin
Left on 03/07/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This is our third time at the Bear Valley Cedar Log Cabin and we love it. This house has everything one needs to feel at home, its clean and cozy. Its location is also fantastic since its close to the parking and stores in winter. In addition we never need to use the car, since we could go snowshoeing directly from the house and for skying we went with the bus.
We really had a great time.

Thank you Pierina for your positive comments. We love it when young families enjoy our little part of paradice as much as our extended family does. We are starting to get summer bookings. Let me know if you are interested in any particular dates this summer.

Stockton, CaliforniaThis is a great cabin and great location
Left on 03/03/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This trip to the snow was a birthday present for me. This holiday rental is simply fantastic. It is a log house, four bedrooms, two baths, sleeps ten. All the modern conveniences, but with a rustic charm. It is equipped with every possible necessity. Wood stove in the living room and one bedroom, electric heaters in bedrooms and bathrooms. A five minute walk on a groomed roadway from parking lot and nearby restaurant, grill and cafe at the lodge. Note that you are responsible for cleaning and laundry. I am more accustomed to B&Bs; and was surprised at this, but I take it that this is customary for holiday rentals. Highly recommended.

Thank you much for the positive review. We try to keep our rental costs down by giving our guests the option of cleaning for themselves or having our cleaners do it and take it out of the deposit. Hope to see you again some day.

San Rafaelas fun in winter as in summer!!!
Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We stayed last February in this great cabin and rented it again this summer. We had blast! Besides the kitchen that has everything 8 people would need, we also enjoyed the blow up boat to peddle on the alpine Lake. One just needs to bring up food and clothes, all the rest is ready to use in the house. We love it up there!

Thanks Pierina, Glad you also enjoyed a summer retreat at beautiful Bear Valley. I have you booked for February 2013.

Turlock, CALovely Time in the Snow and the Trees!
Left on 12/04/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Our family of 10 stayed here for Thanksgiving. We all had a delightful time. The cabin was well stocked and we lacked nothing. I was a little worried since we were cooking many large meals, but the kitchen had everything we needed. The table had room for us all plus the food. There were plenty of blankets, chairs, dishes, towels, bedding, etc. We enjoyed looking out the many windows to watch the kids play in the snow. The only negatives were very minor - the refrigerator had about a dozen items in it belonging to the owner. We had plenty of room for our own items, but with many family members bringing food it was a little hard to tell what belonged to our party and what didn't. I hope we didn't eat anything that didn't belong to us or leave undesired items behind. The second area we had a little difficulty with was the BBQ grill. It was difficult to get out and the propane tank was empty. Of course most people don't BBQ in winter so that's understandable. We filled the tank and still enjoyed ourselves. Those were very minor problems. Everything else was wonderful and no one wanted to leave. It's obvious the owners take great care of their property and we are thankful we had a chance to enjoy it.

Sorry about the Bar-B-Que. We had no idea anyone would want to use it in the winter or we wouldn't have blocked it in with the fire wood, Glad your family had a great time. To bad there wasn't more snow.

Los Altos, CAFeels like home
Left on 06/20/2011 for a stay in August 2010
The log construction gives the cabin so much character and combined with the decorating makes it a very cozy house. It is extremely clean and everything is organized so that you don't have any problems finding what you need.
Bear Valley is a beautiful place. I like the hiking, kayaking, swimming or just sitting on the beach. The cabin is so cute, though, I'd be happy reading a book and staying inside all day!

Murphys, CAEnjoy a beautiful, rustic cabin in paradise!
Left on 06/02/2011 for a stay in August 2009
I've stayed in this cabin at least 20 times over the years and obviously find it to be a perfect base of operations, regardless of my proposed level of activity. It has all the amenities needed for summer and winter and is wonderfully comfortable and beautifully rustic. It has a great lay-out for families; activities in the living room do not disturb anyone trying to sleep! The surrounding area is absolutely gorgeous and is never crowded, even at the height of tourist season. You have to see and experience it to believe it!!

Saratoga, CAPerfect Cabin in the Woods!
Left on 06/01/2011 for a stay in July 2007
We cannot say enough about this wonderful cabin in the woods. The location is lovely -- on a flower-filled meadow in the summer and snow-lovely (plus close to the ski trails via easy bus) in the winter. Inside the furnishings are adorable, clean, and very contemporary. The owners have provided everything to make a stay here perfect.
We have stayed many times and love it. -

BerkeleyGreat down-to-earth vacation rental
Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We stayed here in Dec., 2010 with 4 adults and 3 small children. It was an unusually snowy period, and we were transported in and out, at check-in and check-out time, via provided snowmobile service. There was ample space for all, and a great degree of comfort. The cabin was immaculate, yet didn't feel sterile...just plain comfortable. I'd go back in a minute!

This is a beautifully maintained retreat in the heart of Bear Valley. It is very clean and is extremely comfortable. The furnishings are lovely. There is a wonderful fireplace in the family room and lots of room to relax and share meals together. Easy proximity to skiing and sledding in winter. Great private beach nearby for kayaking and swimming in the summer. Also close to alpine Lake. Our family loved our vacation at this cabin!

Castro Valley, CAAn awesome ski cabin in the snow.
Left on 05/27/2011 for a stay in January 2011
We've stayed at this cabin several times with family and friends in the winter. Very well kept and comfortable. The owners were super flexible with our arrival and departure times and even let us use some of their snow equipment. Snowmobiling, sledding, and skiing right out the front door. Can't wait to try it in the summer for the swimming, biking, hiking, and fishing.
