The 'Aspen Ski Loft' is a cozy rock cabin with floor to ceiling windows which provide amazing long range views of the Appalachian Mountains, ski slopes and the most amazing sunrises. Elevation 5200 feet. Home has been totally renovated, completed November 2010. In Autumn 2012, new carpet was installed in the bedrooms, along with new windows. In addition, the lower level ceiling, walls, and beams have been freshly painted, and the exterior steps and deck have been painted with a high-traction coating. The Aspen Ski Loft is a round house with two levels, the main level has a living room with rock fireplace with a wood pellet insert that keeps... the house toasty warm, the wood pellet stove is controlled by the wall thermostat you can have a nice warm fire in 10 minutes. There is a flat screen t.v., sectional sofa, slipper chair and ottoman; the dining area has a bar height table with four chairs; the kitchen has a tiled island with two bar stools, the countertops are also tiled with matching tile backsplash, a small oven, full size dishwasher and refrigerator with freezer and ice maker; the master bedroom has a queen bed and a private bathroom with shower and soaking tub; the guest bedroom also has a queen bed; there is a second bathroom with shower/tub off of the living room. The lower level has a den with a couch, leather chair and a t.v., it also has a rock sleeping nook with a queen bed and the laundry room with a washer and dryer is also located in the lower level. The deck has a dining set for four, propane gas grill and long range views of Western North Carolina mountains. The house is located approximately 50 steps from the top of the 'Lower Shawneehaw' ski lift. You can literally walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing! Although the road is maintained by the Town of Beech Mountain, the house is located across the street from the ski slopes, therefore there is blowing snow that accumulates on the road so a 4 wheel drive vehicle or snow chains are recommended during the winter months. You also have access to Beech Mountain Club - Golf, Tennis, Swim (seasonal) Fitness Center (year around).
Summers are cool, quiet and lovely, with time for shopping, hiking, whitewater rafting, golf and swimming, as well as Tweetsie Railroad and Emerald Mining for the kids. In addition, there is Grandfather Mountain, with its mile-high swinging bridge and the wonderful Highland Games. Should you want to eat out, several great restaurants are very close by, whether it is a 10 minute drive into Banner Elk or 17 mile drive to Boone. For a small fee, guests have access to the Beech Mountain Club, with 18 hole Golf, Golf Clubhouse, fitness center, private restaurant, Children's Day Camp, tennis, Olympic pool and hiking.
Great for couples, honeymooners, retirees, snowbirds, young people, golfers, tennis players, skiers, snowboarders, tubers, etc.Read more

I'll start with the boring but important stuff; booking was quick and easy and there's a nice information packet provided that helps with property function (stoves, wifi, local businesses, directions, etc). The place is furnished so there's no need to take utensils or extra blankets. The linens were clean and cozy! The recent renovations are obvious and give the Loft a modern feel. I especially love feeling like I'm in a treehouse looking out over the mountains.
The biggest draw for us was proximity to the slope, and not the highest most advanced slope (although I did survive a few runs down from the top, sort of). It's a huge advantage to not drive a foot from arrival to departure time :D
The sleeping quarters are spacious with soft, quiet carpet, well insulated from outside noise (snow machines and plows). I like the downstairs bed; I'm hot natured and love sleeping in a cool room. The stone alcove feels like it's in a castle or something. Rooms upstairs stayed warmer for normal people - haha!
The kitchen and living room are small enough that it fosters intimacy, a really important thing for new friends or old family. We stayed up late into the night sipping hot chocolate and discussing things. The couches are the most comfortable ever made! One could easily not make it to bed. The downstairs is a stone floor and there are lots of things to hang outdoor gear on with a dryer conveniently located down there as well. The upstairs entrance is perfect for non-soaked-outdoor/regular entry. Electronic locks means no need to keep up with a key in your 42 pockets, thank goodness.
The only thing to be wary of is the steps; be careful in ice, and travelers with injury may have difficulty.
Thank you Spencer for your great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
We are glad you enjoyed the Aspen Ski Loft, and appreciate all the boring but important stuff :)) Michele and I work hard to make sure guests of the Aspen Ski Loft have all of the information needed to make their arrival and stay as easy as possible.
Yes, the views from the Aspen Ski Loft make you feel like you are in a treehouse overlooking the mountains.
And the proximity to the slopes can't be beat - - just walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, and you are at the top of one of the chair lifts.
We are glad you liked the sleeping nook in the lower level of the Aspen Ski Loft. It is a great place for sleeping!
We are also glad you enjoyed the intimate surroundings of the main living area to be able to talk and enjoy the fireplace.
Thank you again for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft and for writing a great review! You and your family are welcome to be our guest again at the Aspen Ski Loft. Just let us know when you are ready to make your next reservation!

The loft and its surrounding towns are a nice escape. My wife and I visited from Charlotte, NC, so it was a fairly short trip, but it feels like we were much farther from home at the top of Beech Mtn. We stayed during the off-season and were able to enjoy the town with the locals.
Although we were hit with heavy fog the first night we were there, the following day was beautiful. The large front windows at the loft make you feel like you are above the clouds when you look out onto the surrounding mountains.
Make sure you visit Fred's General Mercantile store on Beech, and there are plenty of other local artists and general stores near Banner Elk and Grandfather Mtn. that we enjoyed during a short 20-30 min. drive.
Surprisingly, there is great Mexican food on the mountain too. (Cannot recall the name, however)
The runs were not open for skiing or snowboarding yet, but I image this area is awesome during peak season.
*I would not recommend this area to individuals who have difficulty with mobility. Most locations require climbing or descending stairs.
Thank you for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft, and thank for your great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Aspen ski Loft. Yes, the 100 mile views from the Aspen Ski Loft are great!
We are glad you enjoyed Fred's Mercantile & General store. They have everything! If they don't have it, you don't need it!
And yes, the Town of Banner Elk is a great place with many shops and restaurants, as well as outdoor adventures.

Our last day in aspen Ski Loft and we feel like extending our stay. This place is awesome! We had an amazing time at this place. The place feels like our home away from home. The view from the aspen Ski Loft is magnificent! The place is very near a convenient store (Fred's Mercantile Store) which sells almost everything you need. My husband and I are cyclists and we enjoyed the climb up the Skiloft Road. Roger is very accommodating and helpful. We were well prepared as Roger sent us reading materials that helped us on what to expect and do at the loft. He answered all my questions right away. I would definitely recommend this place!!! We enjoyed our fall visit to Beech Mountain and the aspen Ski Loft. The Loft was cozy and comfortable for our family of 4. Waking up in the morning with a cup of coffee and the warmth of the wood pellet fireplace provided a perfect backdrop to enjoy the everchanging panoramic views. Mr. Peterson is well organized which added to our experience. All questions where answered ahead of time as he sent documents that meticulously prepared us for arrival at Beech Mountain. The Loft was located close to area attractions, great restaurants, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mr. Peterson provided web addresses to area attractions and our family really enjoyed hiking, tennis, and basketball at the Buckeye Recreation Center. The aspen Ski Loft was the perfect place to return to after enjoying the incredible fall folliage.
Thank you Wendy for your great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! We are so glad you and your family enjoyed your trip to the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain. Yes, Michele and I also enjoy watching the sun rise from the living room, while enjoying a fire from the wood pellet fireplace.

I am actually writing this as I sit at the kitchen table at the aspen Ski Lodge. It is my final day here (I actually called Roger and stayed an extra night than what was planned), and I am sad I have to leave this place with its great views, but grateful for the time I had here. I will be coming back for sure. The easy to use wood pellet fireplace and the wifi are very nice. Every morning I have had coffee by the fire while taking pictures of the sunrise from the floor to ceiling windows. I then immediately uploaded them to facebook. My family went to the autumn at Oz fest, and this brought back so many memories my mom had a good cry. Later that night, we went to a Creature Crawl and Ghost Story event at Grandfather Mountain which is nearby. The rest of my stay I relaxed. The swing and deck are great for reading on a warm fall day! Thanks Roger for everything. Will most definitely come again. Read more

Michele and I are so glad you enjoyed watching the sunrise from the living room of the Aspen Ski Loft. I must admit, that is one of my favorite times at the Aspen Ski Loft as well. The photos you took and posted to your review are AWESOME!
We are glad you enjoyed the wood pellet fireplace. It certainly brings a lot of warmth to the Aspen Ski Loft.

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary by spending 4 days in the Majestic Beech,Sugar and Grand Father mountains in North Carolina. Our stay was romantic, fun, exciting and memorial. We plan to return someday. The Ski Loft was perfect, roomy the beds were comfortable, the extra blankets were soft and cuddly and the showers were hot. The service was outstanding, Roger Peterson was friendly and helpful in making our reservations and answering our questions. He communicated with us via written informational documents, emails and phone calls. It would have been nice to have a listing of the TV channels. The view of the mountains from the Ski loft was majestic especially at sunrise. We walked down the mountain to the nearby General store and restaurants. Where we enjoyed a delicious dinner of steamy hot Pot Roast as we watched humming birds. We saw deer, rabbits and beavers. We went hiking, shopping and sight seeing to nearby Grand Father Mt, Lin-ville Falls, Blowing Rock and Banner Elk. We attended the art show at the school at Banner Elk. We drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway and fell deeper in love with each other, and with the area.
Thank you Dreama for your great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! We are so glad you and your husband were able to spend a romantic 25th anniversary at the Aspen Ski Loft!

Yes, the Aspen Ski Loft is in a great location, near the top of Beech Mountain at an elevation of 5,200 feet.
There are lots of great restaurants and things to do in Banner Elk, which is only 4 miles away, or in Boone which is 20 miles away. Including Grandfather Mountain, which is only 6 miles away!
Michele and I fell in love with the Aspen Ski Loft when we found it. The "round house" design is a very efficient use of space, and the floor to ceiling windows provide great views from the top of the mountain.

Spring Ski and Snow!
Left on 03/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013 | Drew and Gina
We stayed 3 nights at the aspen Ski Loft from 3/20-3/23/13. Had a great time and even had some fresh spring snow. Skied two days and walked right out the front door, across the road and skied down. The only problem was the lift on that side of the mtn was shut down for the season so we had to walk up about 50 yards after we were done for day.
House is well cared for and in a great location, however in the winter months it is an absolute that one has 4x4, AWD or chains. The road to house is steep and will be hard or impossible to get to without. However in worst case can park in city lot and walk up. Probably 100 yards.
Roger and Michelle were very receptive from the first email to checking that we made it ok and everything was to our liking just after we arrived. Great communication before, during and after!
The house has awesome views, and a great wood pellet stove. Kept us toasty even at 8 degrees outside!
The only problem we could see is the inside has a spiral metal staircase, which leads to downstairs. This could be problematic for small children as they could fall down it and get hurt. Our kids are 8 and 10 and loved it. I guess for the new walkers or toddlers and small gate may prevent that.
Overall great trip and hope to stay again sometime soon! Read more

Thank you Drew and Gina for your great review! Michele and I really appreciate it!
We are glad that you got some fresh spring snow while you were there, and some good cold weather. It is great that you were able to walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, and walk across the street to the top of one of the ski lifts. Yes, some of the lifts start shutting down for the season in early March, so hard to plan for how many people will be visiting Beech Mountain Ski Resort, and how many lifts will be operating.
And yes, a 4-Wheel Drive or AWD or snow chains are a must for winter time when there is natural snow or when the resort is making snow.
Yes, I understand your concern about the spiral staircase, and that is a great idea to put a child gate in front. That is on my list for my next trip to the Aspen Ski Loft.
We are glad you liked the wood pellet fireplace, and that it kept you toasty warm by simply adjusting the thermostat on the wall. Thank you again for buying some additional wood pellets.... your reimbursement check is in the mail!
Thank you for your compliments about Michele and I being responsive to your questions. We work very hard to make sure all of our guests' questions are answered, so you can enjoy your time in the mountains.

It is amazing that there was so much snow that your H2 Hummer got stuck in the snow! Wow! That is incredible! This has been a very good winter for snow (and cold!) at Beech Mountain. I am glad that Chicky, the man that drives one of the Snow Scrapers for the Town of Beech Mountain, was able to give you a hand to dig out the Hummer. Our family of 5 stayed in the aspen Ski Loft in January of 2013. We spent half our time lounging in the loft and the other half skiing and sight seeing. The loft was great for lounging indoors. It was comfortable and had all the amenities we needed. (if you are concerned about the internet, don't be. It was plenty powerful enough for me to connect back home to work when needed.) And the location of the loft was great. We were literally 50 steps away from the top of lower shawneehaw so we were able to ski down in the morning to buy our lift tickets. And the best part was we got over a foot of fresh snow while we were there. We will definitely be back. Read more

Thank you Noah and Kim for the great review! Michele and I really appreciate it! We are glad you and your family had a great time at the Aspen Ski Loft. It is a great place for skiing/snowboarding, as well as hanging out inside.
I understand the necessities of needing to connect back home to your work, so I am glad you were able to utilize the high speed secure Wi-Fi at the Aspen Ski Loft. I just hope you did not have to spend too much time using the internet for work, and could also use it for some fun as well!
Yes, it is great being only 50 steps away from the top of the Lower Shawneehaw ski lift, so you can just walk down the steps of the Aspen Ski Loft, walk across the street, strap on your skis or boards, and start skiing or riding! It is a great convenience to not have to drive to go skiing!
I am glad you got 12 inches of new snow while you were there! It is great watching it snow from the Aspen Ski Loft through the floor to ceiling windows.

Our family of five thoroughly enjoyed our stay at aspen Ski Loft. The location is one of the best on the mountain- Fred's and the sledding hill are within walking distance and the ski lift is directly across the street. That being said, when the snowmaking machines are on they can be loud. For us, that was not a negative, as we wanted all the snow we could get! Also, this home's location makes getting down to the town of Banner Elk for gas/groceries/dining convenient.
As for the home itself, it was clean, comfortable, and had amazing views of the mountains through the giant ceiling to floor windows on the bottom floor, living room, and kitchen. The wood pellet fireplace was easy to use and added ambience without having to deal with firewood.
The owner, Roger, was thorough with communications and instructions. When packing for our trip, I had buried my paper with the home's address under our ski stuff so I called Roger and he turned on the front porch light remotely which was helpful finding the house and getting in safely.
All in all, we would definitely stay here again! Read more

Yes, the location of the Aspen Ski Loft being right across the street from the ski slope is a great plus!
We are glad you enjoyed the convenience of getting to Banner Elk for restaurants and supplies.
The floor to ceiling windows provide amazing views during the day, along with awesome sunrises as well.
We are glad you liked the wood pellet fireplace! It is a real wood fire by simply adjusting the thermostat, without having to deal with the hassle of logs!
I was happy to answer your questions before, during, and after your trip, and I was happy to turn on the exterior lights by remote control to light your way. The wonders of modern technology!

The aspen ski loft is incredible! If you love being up in the mountains with great views this is the vacation rental for you. The best part for those who ski is how close you are to a ski lift. My new wife and I stayed here as part of our honeymoon. We couldn't have asked for more. the location was perfect. it is up on top of the mountain with a beautiful view, but only minutes from a general store and a few restaurants. had 1 of the best pizzas ive ever had about 2 minutes down the road at bullwinkles cafe and pizzeria. their were plenty of things for us to do within 45 minutes of the cabin. the only reason i rated it very good and not excellent is the driveway is only big enough for 1 vehicle. being a cabin that sleeps 6 my wife, son, and I invited another couple and their daughter. obviously we took separate vehicles. i had already paid in full before I found out we could only park 1 vehicle the driveway. not a real big deal as their is a public parking lot just down the hill approximately 200 yards, but it would have been nice to know before hand. just be aware of that if you are taking more than 1 vehicle Read more

Thank you Josh for the review! Michele and I appreciate it very much!
Yes, the views from the Aspen Ski Loft are awesome!
There are great places to eat nearby on Beech Mountain, as well as in nearby Banner Elk, Linville, and Boone.
I understand your concern about the driveway being able to accommodate 1 vehicle. The Aspen Ski Loft is located in a very exclusive road because it is going up to the top of Beech Mountain. Therefore, the views are breath-taking, but the road leaves little room for a driveway, so there is room for 1 vehicle.
In the past, there have been problems with people parking "illegally" along the side of the road, in the curves, and, believe it or not, parking in other homes' driveways. Guests or owners would arrive only to find someone else's car parked in the driveway. So the Town of Beech Mountain Police have gotten very strict about parking, and now issue Parking Passes, which Michele and I gladly make available to our guests for no additional charge.
I apologize for the inconvenience of having to park the 2nd vehicle down the hill, however this makes the road clear for emergency vehicles and other cars to make it up and down the road.
Thank you again for your review, and you and your family are welcome to visit the Aspen Ski Loft again!

Yes, the Aspen Ski Loft is nice and warm with the new wood pellet fireplace that was installed a couple of months ago! It is so easy to use... just click a couple of buttons on the thermostat on the wall, and in about 10 minutes there is a nice hot fire!
And the views are terrific! What a great place to sit back and just look out of the windows and the long-range views!
You and your family are welcome to come back any time!

Best Slopeside Rental on Beech Mountain
Left on 02/13/2012 for a stay in February 2012 | John Moss
We have been annual Beech Mtn slopeside renters for the last 20 years so I am very familiar with most of the rentals on ski loft drive which is the road that begins at the town sled hill and goes up almost to the top of Beech. Ski loft road is the place to stay at Beech with all homes readily slope accessible. The homes were built in the 60's so most have a few repair issues and with some i've rented in bad shape. Aspen Ski Loft is in great shape and Roger and Michele have done a superb job fixing their rental up to where it meets the standard of "new". It has an added room below that most of the roundhouses don't have with a cute bed area the kids slept in plus a lower den (with the washer dryer in the utility room). Upstairs is the normal Roundhouse layout, 2 BR/2 Bath, Living Room and Kitchen, again comfortable and in great shape. Of course the views are Heavenly and you just walk across ski loft road to the Shawneehaw Lift area and put on your skis, after skiing get off the lift and walk across the Road back. I'm sure most of you who have skiied know the hassle of walking from the car to the slope and back, no problem here. Parking is great for 2 cars (another plus not usually available) and it's got cable, wifi and a keypad rather than keys. This is the best Roundhouse I've ever seen or stayed in on Beech and the nightly price is less than most too! I will be back next winter and know I will have my family in an upgraded Roundhouse to enjoy what I think is the most inexpensive way to take a family on a ski vacation...to Beech Mountain. Read more

Yes, we love the location of Ski Loft Road. It is so convenient for skiing and winter sports, and the views are great year-round!
Thank you for your complements about the Aspen Ski Loft! We have worked hard to bring it up to "new" standards, and we must also give credit to our home improvement professional. He had some great ideas, such as the "can" lights over the kitchen counter/sink area. He also did a great job building the island in the kitchen to provide more counter top and drawer space.
Thank you again for choosing the Aspen Ski Loft, and we are glad that you liked it the best of all the places that you have stayed on Beech Mountain.
You are welcome to come back any time!
Perfect Ski Location/Wonderful Owner Interaction
Left on 02/10/2012 for a stay in January 2012 | gdstone04
We stayed at this ski loft over the last weekend in January, 2012. It was ideal for our ski getaway. The blown snow was powder-perfect and it was wonderful to take breaks during our ski sessions to warm up by the fireplace, grab a bite to eat or relax for a while. We stayed with our children, ages 6 and 8 and they loved the downstairs nook and the master tub. My husband was fascinated with the fireplace and now wants to install one in our house! I loved fully-stocked kitchen (even with a crock pot) and the beautiful morning view of the sun rising over the mountains. Roger and Michele were so accommodating and friendly and we will very happily come back to stay here and recommend this place to all of our friends. You pay a little more for a slope side loft but it is worth every penny. It felt like we were staying at a friend's house. Working with Roger and Michele was very easy--from the exchanged emails detailing everything we would need to the travel-friendly password door lock (no keys to exchange or return), our experience was flawless. Use them with confidence. Read more

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Aspen Ski Loft, and the location worked out good for you. Not having to drive to get to the slopes is a great plus.
I'm happy to share any info about the fireplace if you and your husband want to get one for your house. I highly recommend the wood pellet fireplace.
Thank you for being such a great guest. You are welcome to come back any time!
Thank you again!

Relaxing On The Beech
Left on 10/19/2011 for a stay in October 2011 | Cheryl Richardson and friends
The drive up from Florida was rainy the entire way, and we arrived to a very foggy Blue Ridge Parkway and Beech Mountain which just showcases a different part of the charm of the mountains.
We did have some strong winds but when we couldn't sit on the expansive deck we cozied up to a warm fire with a glass of wine, cheese and apples. Thanks too, for letting us know that we could purchase firewood in advance and have it waiting for us upon arrival; it wasn't just a huge time saver, it was a good value.
The alpen Ski Loft is so centrally located that we were able to take day trips to our favorite places, like ashe County for cheese, Altapass Orchard, Blue Ridge Parkway, and still return well before dark! The Woolly Worm Festival is a yearly favorite, and Banner Elk is nearby.
The ski lift is so close it's a skier's dream! There are no local TV stations to give an accurate report of the weather on Beech, and we found that the best place for weather or snow information is Fred's Merchantile which is within walking distance! How great?! Fred's had everything we forgot to bring, and lots more! It saved more than one trip into town for us.
We were just exhausted after visiting Mt. Mitchell one night. After a half-hour or so in the soaking tub, exhaustion turned to relaxation and a great night's sleep! I found it very interesting. I've seen many hot tubs, jacuzzis, rainfall tubs, etc., but never one like that. I was very impressed, and it's such a nice touch and the shower was just as relaxing. :)
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend your home to anyone, for relaxing, enjoy outstanding views of the city and long range views of the mountains, or to ski. It's charm and location must be witnessed, words don't do it justice. We've stayed in various cities throughout the High Country over the years, yet, Beech Mountain has remained our all-time favorite place to relax and the alpen Ski Loft made it quite memorable! Thank you again for your graciousness.
Your words are so descriptive and helpful to future guests! You have done so well at describing all of the activities around the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain.
Thank you for being such a great guest! You were great to work with, and you are welcome to come back any time!

ASU Family Weekend

We were so pleased with Roger and Michele's condo in Beech Mountain, NC. We came for an ASU Family Weekend football game,it's only 45 minutes to the stadium. We cooked a southern style breakfast in the morning and talked with each other on the patio outside. Family, football and God's beauty you can't get better than that! Read more

Thank you Kelly for your review of the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain!
It is so helpful to parents of students at Appalachian State University to know they have a place to stay that is only 20 miles from Boone, and has the great mountain views!
Thank you for staying at the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain! You are welcome to return any time!

Great autumn Getaway!!!
Left on 10/08/2011 for a stay in October 2011 | Sandy and Earl
We were here last October and the improvements you have made since then are outstanding. It was so relaxing, after a day of hiking, to have cocktails on the patio while our steaks sizzled on the grill. The setting sun shining on the mountains in the distance was a magnificent backdrop to our meal. Also love the addition of the ski lift swing on the lower level!
We really enjoyed sitting on the new sectional in front of the fireplace watching football on the flat screened TV; it was so warm and cozy. One of my favorite areas is the private suite down the circular staircase. The unique sleeping nook is a great place for an afternoon nap.
The place is just a gem, and the view is incredible. The orange hues of the sunrise over the mountains are not to be missed. Everything is first class and made our stay perfect in every way. Thank you so much. Can't wait till next year. Read more

You have really experienced the "before" and "after" of the improvements that Michele and I have made to the Aspen Ski Loft at Beech Mountain!
I must give complements to our home improvement specialist, who not only had great ideas, but could also build them also! He did a great job with the ski lift swing, which makes a great place to sit and relax and enjoy the view, while imagining riding up the ski lift!
Thank you again for being our guest, and for writing a great review! Your review has helped other guests know that they can reserve the Aspen Ski Loft with confidence.
You are welcome to return any time!
