      Perfect Week-end escape

Left on 07/22/2010 for a stay in July 2010

The Eagle's Rest is perfect for 2-4 people. It is located on the top of a small hill with a great view and in the middle of a very quiet village (except for the regular radio announcements broadcasted by the government...). There is a terasse for outside lunch or dinner, and a lovely garden with real green grass and enough privacy!! The villa has every thing you need to spend a really comfortable week-end there. The only minus is the warm temperature on hot summer days in the living-room/kitchen area due to the glass walls, but for those who want to hide from the heat the bedrooms were ideal... So, if you're looking for something quiet and relaxing, this is the perfect hide.

Fantastic place in a great location

Left on 06/10/2010 for a stay in June 2010

Fantastic place in a great location. Definitely recommend it.
They even provide child and baby cots, so it's very good for families. Very friendly staff, and you even have a view of the Great Wall. Slightly pricey, but if you go with lots of people then works out not too costly per person.

REALLY nice view and just the right thing to do coming from busy

Left on 05/06/2010 for a stay in May 2010

The house is great, especially the open kitchen and the terrace. The yard is
nice. It has not been my first time to rent one of the houses. It has always
been great. I'm looking forward to the next time!

      Peaceful sunny getaway

Left on 05/04/2010 for a stay in April 2010

Great view and sunny feel from the glassed in living area/kitchen in one...and while all windows, still felt quite private. Great getaway from Beijing and only 45 minutes drive. The marble steps a bit dangerous for a 1 year old so we guarded that from our wanderer but enjoyed a home cooked meal and wine while doing it. Best to bring some reading materials to enjoy the quiet. We enjoyed the breakfast in the new spot in the village. Probably somewhat pricey for only one night but we enjoyed it thoroughly and the feeling of a real getaway. Staff at Schoolhouse so friendly and welcoming...just love the atmosphere and vibe.

      Resting at the Eagle's Rest

Left on 04/13/2010 for a stay in April 2010

After a very long winter in Beijing, Spring Break was approaching and family decided to come and visit. This meant no escape to the sun in Bali or Thailand. In need of some escape from the confines of a grey Beijing city, I decided to look up The Schoolhouse website and see what was available. Having had a wonderful Thanksgiving in The Pavillion house last year, I knew I could offer my family a unique luxury retreat with views of the Great Wall and a story or two to take home to New Zealand.
Of course, we headed to the Great Wall for a repeat visit. On a wonderfully clear, blue sky day, we walked and walked, and to offer an incentive to the teenager, came down on the luge! Arriving at The Schoolhouse we were welcomed warmly by Lauren and taken to the next village to the wonderfully situated Eagle's Rest. The evening and next morning were a joy! The weather was perfect! The building perched up above the village of Yingbeigou, made us feel like eagle's watching the world below continue it's daily life. The modern aspects of the building, surrounding the old courtyard appealed to us, as did the open fire place and the glass sided kitchen. We wined and dined and caught up with family news and finished a perfect overnight stay with an Easter Brunch at The Schoolhouse. There were stories to take back to NZ about the village broadcasts, music over the loud speaker and the announcements that went on and on, about the sore legs from walking once again on The Great Wall, the roosters, the new Brickyard building and a wonderful rural Chinese experience!

      Great Views, Peaceful Location

Left on 08/27/2009 for a stay in August 2009

We received a warm welcome on our arrival and were taken to The Eagle's Rest
which is about a 10 to 15 minutes drive from The Schoolhouse. There are
good views from the outside terrace and it has a pretty garden at the front.
The property is quite comfortable but would benefit from improving the
kitchen requirements; not enough utensils/equipment for cooking. However
we ate most meals at The Schoolhouse, so cooking was'nt a problem.
The pathway at the front of the property is on a hill and had not been paved,
just gravel so it was necessary to carry our luggage up which took alot of
effort. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it as a peaceful
location not far from The Great Wall.

Comfortable and well designed property in a great location

Left on 07/18/2009 for a stay in April 2009

House is beautifully designed combining old style Chinese country house with modern glass kitchen and decking. We had a toddler with us and the garden area was very useful for her to play in. Underfloor heating was appreciated as it was a little chilly at this time of year. Village is very pleasant and quiet. Staff on check and generally during our stay in were very helpful and friendly if perhaps a little bit too laid back at times.

Kitchen is not as well equipped as I would like for a self catering place. No tin-opener caused us a small problem. It is a shame there is no oven (only a microwave) and it would be better to have a few more pots, pans, etc.

There was some issue with the water drainage in the bathrooms - when we showered the water ran everywhere, all over the floors and out to the corridors. It wasn't a huge problem but it would be better if this were fixed.

All in all I would highly recommend this place and may well return in the future.
