Mountain Home at the Great Wall- To get to Big Rock House you wind up the hill in the middle of Yingbeigou village, stone walls and sturdy brick dwellings on one side, the creek and forested ridge on the other, sudden glimpses of sky and the Great Wall. You park on a bridge over the creek and walk up a rough path to the stone ramparts guarding Big Rock House, open the gate, turn right and go up a ramp until suddenly the Great Wall looms and the mountain home in its wild garden is revealed. Arrvied at the BRH, surprised to find that, although having a very traditional layout and design, the house was very clean. Location was perfect as you can hike up to the great wall in less then 1 hour. Fireplace was awesome and the yard was great for our puppy. Highly recommend this house, esp. in spring. Has a great kitchen for cooking as well as a clean and new barbecue.

We had a wonderful stay at the Schoolhouse and were all amazed by the incredible community you have built in the villages around Mutianyu! I will definitely come back during spring time with some of my Beijing friends! We were satisfied with everything, from the driver you helped us book, to the drink and jazz in the Smithy and most importantly with the cosiness of Big Rock House. It had all the facilities we needed and it was just like being in a home away from home! I work in sustainable development myself and was impressed by the sustainability of your concept and of the houses!

We travelled with our family and another couple with a 2 year old. The house was nice and big, alas not very well insulated, but the nice inside fireplace made up for it. Ftrom pretty much everywhere in the house you have a nice view of the great wall and a night a perfect view on the sky and stars. The house has one nice bedroom with pricave bath where our friends stayed and the master bedroom had a large bed for us, an opium bed for my 5 year old and another queen size bed on the mezzanine.
It felt really homy. The kitchen could have better ( more) ustensile) but it did not bother us as we only did saturday lunch there.. however if you intend to cook it may be safer to bring your own spatula or what ever. Location wisethe house is walking distance to the Brick Yard restaurant, very convinient for morning breakfast and has a direct trail to the great wall... no need for a car for 2 days !!! -

We enjoyed staying in the Big Rock House. The architecture is really nice,
tastefully furnished and the atmosphere really special.
The only negative point is that the bedroom has a lot of windows and a lot of
lights comes in early in the morning.
If you are considering renting the house, you should also consider bringing
your own food as there is not too many dining options in the village.
It was our second stay at the schoolhouse and we will definitely return. -

I loved the Big Rock house!
You are right in a Chinese village, at the foot of the Great Wall.
We were 4 friends staying very comfortably but the house could certainly sleep a few more.
The house's kitchen is an original Chinese peasant house and the remodeling has been built around it. Absolutely stunning. If you choose to cook, the kitchen is well equipped for that.
The main feature in the beautiful living room is the exposed "Big Rock" around which the room has been built. The architecture is amazing.
We stayed there in chilly weather, but I can imagine how nice it will be sitting on the pretty yard when the weather gets warmer.
Yet my favorite room in the house must be the master bathroom built from natural stone. I have lived in many flats smaller than that bathroom.
I truly recommend a stay at the Big Rock.
