We stayed five nights and found the apartment had everything we needed- space, lovely views, central location and very light, bright, clean and comfortable with nice furnishings. Paola was very helpful, communicating often prior to our arriving and she even picked us up when we arrived in Bellagio and took us to the apartment. I would definitely recommend this apartment, it was excellent value for money .

We stayed in this apartment for the second time in april 2013 (The first time was in 2009) and would gladly stay there time after time.
The apartment itself is roomy, clean and well equipped. It's location overlooking the church square offers something different to look at everytime you look out from the balcony. There are plenty of bar-cafes, shops and restaurants within easy walking distance.
The only possible negatives I can see are the fact that it's up three flights of stairs (although if that's a problem then Bellagio might not be the place for you) and the fact that the balconies are a little small - (nothing much they can do aboput that though!)
The owners are straightforward, honest and easy to deal with.
I'd fully recommend this apartment as a great place to stay in Bellagio. -

Great time at this well located apartment. We loved the atmosphere of San Giacomo Square with the lovely bells that chime from 7am to 10 pm means you don't need a watch and the caffe on the square serves the best coffee in town!
It is 3 flights of steps to the apartment bu.t Giovanni assisted us on arrival and after that we figured it might help work off the gelati. We didn't need a car in Bellagio, it was easy to catch the ferry around to the other towns.
Great to be able to do some washing and prepare the odd meal. We are happy to recommend the apartment to those wanting to enjoy sipping on the small balconies to take advantage of the lovely lake views. We were treated to ringside seats on Friday night of a men's singing group a cappella and last night a stunning fireworks on the lake shore! All added to the fantastic week in Bellagio. -

Left on 09/02/2012 for a stay in August 2012
The apartment has a lot of charm with spectacular views over the rooftops to Lake Como. The rooms are all of a good size and well equipped for a very comfortable stay. We made use of the washing machine. There is a good selection of restaurants and local food shops close by.
While we were there the weather was very hot and we missed having air conditioning at night.
Bellagio is a good base for visiting other places on Lake Como by boat. -

My mother and I really enjoyed our stay here. The apartment is a great location, only about 5 mins down the steps to the ferry terminal, ideal for exploring both Bellagio itself and the lake. It is on the third floor, without a lift, so be prepared for the stairs. You do get a lovely view of the lake as a reward though! The apartment was very clean, in particular the bathroom which is one of the better bathrooms we've seen in a rental property. Excellent new washing machine as well.
The owner was very helpful, he took us and our cases up to the apartment in his car when we arrived, then carried both our cases up three flights of steps (brave man).
We did find the apartment a bit noisy as it is on the one access road through the town. This might not bother others, but as a light sleeper it was a bit disturbing for me. Also we felt the lounge could use a coffee table, as currently there is nowhere to put your drink except on the floor. Overall though it is very good value accommodation in a very expensive town.
Bellagio has lots of nice little shops and some small food shops but no proper supermarket. There are two supermarkets and an excellent baker in Menaggio, which we found to be much better for buying food. One bit of advice about Bellagio - wear sensible shoes! Most of the streets are stepped and some are also cobbled (quite a combination!). For those who are less mobile, you can walk around via the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni to get to the apartment a bit more easily.

Left on 06/15/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We have just returned from a 15 night break at the S Giacomo Central apartment in Bellagio. We previously visited Bellagio 5 years ago (for our honeymoon) and on that occasion stayed in the Metropole Hotel, but on this occasion we wanted to live like Italians for a couple of weeks and hunted out an apartment in the old town square.
The apartment was on the 3rd floor, up 50 steps from the main entrance, which kept us on our toes (and helped after the digestion of too much great Italian cuisine in the local restaurants). What we had forgotten is that to get from the bottom of the town by the lake to the church square (entrance to the apartment) you need to get up 144 steps too, so every outing ended with the need to get up nearly 200 steps, but we're not complaining about that - it did us good! (just beware if you struggle with mobility).
Paola and Giovanni were extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with. Giovanni met us when we arrived and helped get the luggage up to the apartment, which we were extremely grateful for. We had hot weather the first week and Giovanni provided a fan for us, which was a blessing.
We enjoyed breakfast on one of the balconies each morning (one balcony looks out over the roof tops towards the lake and the other overlooks the church square) and spent time reading and sipping wine there on occasion too. The Sport bar in the square can be noisy late on into the evening but we enjoyed hearing the banter between the locals and it didn't bother us.
The apartment is generally well equipped and has everything you need. The shower cubicle is a bit snug but the water pressure is good. There is also a washing machine in the bathroom which we used on a couple of occasions.
Could go on about this place for ages - we loved staying there - suffice to say we had a brilliant time and look forward to returning to Bellagio at some point in the near future! -

My wife and I and a friend, all of us 60 years of age stayed at this lovely apartment for 5 nights. Giovanni who helped us with our cases was very friendly and helpful. The apartment is located beside all the main shops and restaurants. We had dinner out every night, and the apartment is a short walk to the ferry boatswhere we took boat excursions to the other towns on the Lake. With all the conveniences of home, we had breakfast every morning at the apartment from groceries we purchased from the local grocers, there are two very close by. Although the church bells ring at 7:30 am every morning during the week, we were glad as it became our wake up call, and allowed us to get an early start to our days.

Bellagio is a beautiful place and this charming apartment is just perfect. We were welcomed warmly and guided to the apartment and where to park. The square in front of the apartment has a couple of bars/restaurants and is very near the shops and other restaurants but only 5 minutes away from the waterfront(downhill). 2 good sized bedrooms with a kitchen, lounge and a very well equipped bathroom. I strongly recommend this apartment

All that we had hoped for and more!!
Left on 03/14/2012 for a stay in February 2012
My husband and I booked the apartment for 15 nights, knowing that late February is most likely to still be very cold, with a lot of shops and restaurants still closed for the winter. But that is why we chose that time of year - quiet, with no crowds. And the beauty of having a kitchen meant that we could purchase local food and prepare a meal for ourselves if we didn't want to eat out.
Our "landlords" - The Vergottini family were wonderfully warm and hospitable and went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable - from hauling our luggage up to the 3rd floor apartment on our arrival to assisting us with booking rail trips and printing out the tickets for us on their own computer! Their willingness to help us whenever possible made our stay even more wonderful and memorable.
The apartment itself was old, but very clean and comfortable, and fresh linen and towels were provided half way through our stay. It is in a perfect location, and the views out to the lake and the snow-capped peaks were beautiful. I thought the bells of the church may become a bit annoying (they ring every half-hour between 7am and 10pm), but we quickly grew used to it and barely noticed them (in fact, it was quite handy for checking the time!). The only draw-back for us 2 unfit, overweight aussies was the fact that there is no lift, but that in itself became a positive in that we were able to walk off some of the calories consumed during our stay!
All in all, a wonderful stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone wanting a self-contained apartment ... I would go back tomorrow if I could!! -

We had a wonderful stay in Bellagio at S. Giacomo Central apartment.
I was happy to find the holiday crowds dispersed, and to feel like we had the town to ourselves. Paola was a wonderful hostess, and her father's optical shop promptly produced my first pair of reading glasses. The apartment was comfortable and quiet. I only wish to have stayed longer. -

We stayed for 5 nights in S. Giacomo apartment in Bellagio and it was a very comfortable base to do our touring of the area. Apartment was well located in the shopping strip with balconies to enjoy the lake and central square views. It was equipped and clean and had excellent quality bedding and towels. We made full use of the well equipped kitchen too. Enjoyed the array of movies and books in the evening and the warm atmosphere once the hydronic heating was turned on.Giovanni, family member of apartment was especially welcoming as he picked us up from the ferry from Varenna and helpful throughout our stay, as was his father who quickly came to our aid to get the heating turned on on our first night.

What a place - I absolutely loved Bellagio and Lake Como and would love to return. The apartment was perfect for my friend and I, as we had bedrooms quite separate from each other. We couldn't believe how great the apartment was for such a reasonable price. It's in a perfect location right in the heart of Bellagio, in a beautiful old square (now used for car parking). We ate breakfast on the balcony looking out over the lake. All the shops and restaurants you need are nearby. It's a real home from home, so much better than staying in a hotel. There are a lot of steps up to the apartment which was fine for us but worth noting for guests who are less able. I hope to return one day!!

We stayed with our 2 teenage children in aug, we were very pleased with the location of the apartment. It was ideally situated in the heart of Bellagio with all the lovely shops/cafes/bars on the doorstep. The apartment was extremely comfortable and clean with amazing views from nearly all of the rooms. The owner of the apartment was most helpful and couldn't do enough to help make our holiday enjoyable. We would definitely go back. The weather was fabulous all week so that did help but this apartment was perfect to explore the very pictureque Bellagio and some of the other lakeside towns and villages.

We sat out at the balcony and had our meals there as often as we could. The views were lovely and location very central. The apartment was very clean and everything was working well. We didn't mind the steps up , that's nothing compared to the endless steps you get everywhere in Bellagio. We found a way to the waterside with less steps though - go towards the church right in front of the apartment and turn left after the gelateria- you'll walk past the pharmacy on the way down. That was our preferred way to return to the apartment from the jetty, it's so easy. There is no air-conditioning or wi fi, but we had the 15euro TIM sim card on our smart phones which gave us data coverage, and the apartment had 2 fans which kept us sane during the hot afternoons (31C- unusually hot week!). We had a really lovely stay in this apartment and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

The location is great. The apartment is excellent. The atmosphere cannot be beat in this beautiful Lake Como town. With the church bell welcoming in each new day, our stay was entirely delightful. The only reason I gave comfort one star less than perfect is the lack of air conditioning and Wifi. Otherwise, it is perfect. I will stay there again when in the area.

Reservations and check in were a breeze.
We liked the location - in the center of Bellagio on the church square (up the hill from the lakefront). Bellagio is a beautiful little town,
Apartment is on the 3rd floor, so you have nice views from the windows.

Left on 03/30/2011 for a stay in May 2010
We enjoyed a wonderful seven days in this apartment in May last year, and have booked to return for nine days this September.
San Giacomo Central is a great apartment ... perfectly located ... with balconies off every room ... offering views overlooking the church square (Piazza San Giacomo), narrow streets, roof tops, the lake and the mountains beyond. The location is especially great for those who like to self-cater ... as the specialty food shops are just a few steps from the front door.
We especially enjoyed our breakfasts ... taking in the view, watching fresh produce being delivered daily in the square, observing the locals going about their activities, and hearing the church bells chime.
Mid-morning we would go out for coffee, and if not going on a lake excursion, we would buy a selection of local produce and enjoy lunch in the apartment. It was so comfortable ... we just loved being there.
The apartment was spotlessly clean, very well equipped and we felt very much at-home. We struck some cold wet days, and appreciated the cosy central heating. Some people may have difficulty with the steps up to the apartment, but they didn't bother us.
The Vergottini family were extremely helpful in every way. Paola was very helpful with our pre-booking enquiries and with pre-arrival information. Her brother, Giovanni met us on our arrival in Bellagio and accompanied us to the apartment. And her father helped us with restaurant recommendations and local information.
We enjoyed everything about our stay in this apartment last year and we are delighted to be returning to Bellagio again this September ... and again staying in this lovely apartment. -

My wife and I spent 6 nights at S Giacomo Central apartment in March and would happily recommend this facility to others. The apartment provided all that we needed for our stay including some very useful tourist information and Paola made us feel very welcome.
The apartment is located in central Bellagio but in the upper part of the town so walking up and down steps is part of the experience, added to which is the 50 steps up to the apartment which is on the second floor. This is by no means a criticism but should be noted by anyone with limited mobility.
We found the apartment very clean and well equipped and very close to shops, the ferry and other facilities that make the stay in Bellagio memorable. -

It is in a quiet location and very close to all that Bellagio had to offer with plenty of tourist info being provided in the apartment. Left on 02/21/2011 for a stay in May 2009
My wife and I have come to Bellagio often, entranced by its beauty, but of the several places, hotels and apartments, where we have stayed, this one, on our last visit, is our favorite. Paola Vergottini was extremely gracious and helpful. The apartment itself is perfectly located, with lake views in two directions. The rooms are spacious, the accommodations comfortable. We would love to have stayed there much longer than our five days--and would love to come again. Th one drawback is also part of the apartment's allure--it's on the fourth floor. The views are great but the climb is strenuous for an oldster like myself. Once down, you tend to stay down, once up you tend to stay up. This aside we were thoroughly happy there.

Left on 02/18/2011 for a stay in April 2010
We spent two weeks at the S. Giacomo apartment last april and found it most comfortable and impeccably clean.
I research relentlessly for places to stay to suit my needs and was quite pleased with this choice.
In city center Bellagio it is nearly impossible to find an apartment that is light and airy and also has a view. However, S. Giacomo has both and the balconies were a real plus. It was quite entertaining watching the activity below and spotting the "regulars" at Cafe Sport.
The owners were most thoughtful and helpful throughout our stay, as well. On arriving in a rainstorm they took us right up to the apartment suggesting we pay the rent when it was more convenient.
Yes, I would definitely stay again.
