Bernburg lies in the center of Sachsen-Anhalt. Magdeburg, Halle, Dessau and Wernigerode (Harz) are all at a distance of 40 km. Thanks to its convenient location on the A14 and B6n, our city is very well suited as starting point for one-day excursions into other parts of the federal state. Leipzig, too, can be reached easily in just three quarters of an hour.
Our vacation apartment is located close to the center, in quiet surroundings. Parking is available right at the front door. Just 5-10 minutes of walking get you to the castle, theater, the inner city, the bike trail along the Saale, etc. On the next corner, you can find a bakery and butcher’s, a supermarket is to be found at 300 m away.
About Bernburg/Saale:
Bernburg is the center of the new area Salzland. With some 37000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger cities, but also one of the oldest and most beautiful, of Sachsen-Anhalt. In many places, one can still get a feel for its change from a medieval residence town to a modern industrial and residential city that occurred in more than 1000 years of city history. The nice mixture of old and new exudes its very own charm. One tourist highlight is definitely the renaissance castle at the banks of the Saale. Even Eulenspiegel is said to have played his pranks here!
Looking for the gigantic castle complex, one will also pass the “Carl Maria von Weber”-Theater and the town hall.
Walking towards the inner city, one gets from the Wilhelmstrasse to the pedestrian bridge. From there, the view goes over the market square to the old town.
Keeping left at the end of the old market, after 100 m one reaches the former spa/bathing house of the city.
