Berrima is an idyllic spot just one and a half hours' drive from Sydney. The newly refurbished Book Barn is a fantastic spot to look for old and new books. The restaurant serves fabulous food and the staff are friendly.
The Book Barn Cottage is set in the spectacular grounds of this country mansion. It is cosy and welcoming with ducted floor air-condtiioning and a log fire place.
I highly recommend this place. -

CanberraHeaven in the Highlands
Left on 10/23/2012 for a stay in October 2012
What a wonderful place to spend my 60th birthday. The Book Barn Cottage is set amidst a sea of green with the most glorious sunrises and sunsets shimmering through the gums, pines and poplars. A bucolic delight indeed - cows grazing in the paddocks across the road, grapes on the vine, a tree swing out the front - and only minutes from all the attractions of the Southern Highlands. The cottage is so cosy and comfortable, it felt like home mere minutes after settling in - fetch me my pipe and slippers, I am here to relax! And surrounded by books in every room, to browse through or purchase (we couldn't resist a couple), it's also a bibliophile's paradise. Katja made us feel most welcome and made sure that our stay was pleasant and care-free. All in all, highly recommended (5 stars).

SydneyLuxury for real people
Left on 10/10/2012 for a stay in September 2012
What a beautiful place to be in and around! The cottage is stunningly renovated, furnished, styled and equipped. The gardens provide views from every window that are more like gardens featured in magazines. In fact the whole experience is like living inside the pages of a style magazine. Except that it is so real. Real windows that open and close, a very real cottage kitchen and lovely comfortable beds, modern spacious bathrooms and books, books everywhere. Happy places to sit, inside and out, and a wooden swing hanging from a high tree bough in the backyard, popular with kids and older generations who remember swings like that from their own childhoods.
Fresh eggs from the hens, vineyards across the lane and the rolling hills of the southern highlands. Berrima judt down the road and Bowral over the hill - life just slows down without you even thinking about it.
And the smiling face of the owner/manager who has lovingly thought of every detail to make this a really glorious place to spend some time. -

Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We enjoyed three wonderful nights at the Book Barn Cottage during Winter this year. The location is perfect and so close to all the great things the Southern Highlands has to offer. The Book Barn Cottage exceeded our expectations in so many ways in terms of comfort, cleanliness and facilities provided. The atmosphere of the cottage is warm and inviting - a true retreat where you can relax and enjoy time with friends and family in such a beautiful environment. We especially enjoyed the open fire, sunsets and magnificent grounds on the property .Katja provided wonderful service from the moment we booked and gave us great tips and ideas about local attractions. It was lovely to meet her during our stay. Her hospitality and attention to detail is outstanding! We would definitely recommend staying at the Book Barn Cottage to anyone and look forward to visiting again.

SydneyThree highlights from a wonderful seasonal experience in the Sou
Left on 07/14/2012 for a stay in June 2012
There are so many wonderful things to say about The Book Barn Cottage. We have stayed there four times this winter and always felt like we never wanted to leave. There are many wonderful things to say about this unique holiday spot and it's owner, Katja. This property delivers so much more than others in a similar price range that I've rationed myself to a few highlights in this review. Highlight one is the huge crackling cozy fireplace complete with cut wood that invites you to relax upon arrival. Highlight two is the well-stocked, comfortable, beautifully decorated and organized kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms. Highlight three is the plethora of interesting books scattered about the cottage just begging to be read while trying not to be distracted by the vibrant and colourful rosellas in the garden. Thanks for a wonderful seasonal experience in the beautiful Southern Highlands!

The cottage is presented to provide the utmost comfort and relaxation. We were there in winter so we really appreciated the beautiful bed with an electric blanket, the central heating and the open fire. The bookshelf is amazing with a fascinating selection of books. The basket of Goodies was delicious.
Nearby, Berrima village has fabulous eating opportunities.
We thoroughly recommend the cottage for a holiday of tranquility, walking, reading and pleasure. -

SydneyWonderful location with gorgeous hosts
Left on 02/02/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We were so happy we stayed on at the book barn cottage !
With friends in the highlands that we needed to see we were looking for accommodation that would fit the family and that was located close to everything but not in a town . We felt that coming from Sydney we have that week in week out
The Book Barn was simply gorgeous . Clean , tastefully decorated, great water pressure and with all the little "touches" that make this style of accommodation really special.
We spent an enjoyable hour one afternoon poking around the book barn and loved the walks on the property , enjoying the lake, the gardens and the fresh country air
Thank you to our helpful host Katja, who even arranged a taxi into town one evening for us
5 stars!
