Description from the manager
In an elevated position directly above the harbour in a very picturesque village, this stone built end- terraced cottage dates back to 1837 and has some wonderful panoramic views to the sea and rugged cliffs of St Abbs Head. The cottage has been sympathetically restored with care taken to ensure the charm and original character remain intact. The cosy lounge has the original timber panelling and an open fire. A delightful unusual feature is the attic room which runs the length of the house and has French windows leading out to a small balcony with fabulous views.

Unfortunately our stay at this cottage was not up to the standard we have come to expect from Mackays. On arrival we had to wait 2 hours for the keyholder to arrive, when we were in we found the 6th bed was not made up and no bedding available for it. The addition of the attic bedroom was great for my teenagers however the increase from sleeps 4-6 is not reflected in the rest of the property. We just managed to squeeze everyone onto the sofas but only because my youngest children are smallish, there is a new television in the living room but its tiny and high up on the wall. there isn't enough room in the kitchen to serve up a meal for 6 and the fridge is tiny but we had a freezer we didn't use. the cottage has had some obvious improvements with new carpets and decorating however the kitchen and bathroom still have aged grubby areas, we also found dirty beakers and old soap in the bathroom on our arrival, the bathroom window didn't close properly and there was only one handle on the bath making it difficult to get up from a bath. It would have been useful to know that there was not parking at the cottage but round the corner, not a problem at low season but possibly could be when busy. The lack of space meant we were unable to keep our boots in the house, there just wasn't room we had to leave them in the car, had it been a wet week it would have been difficult having the wet gear everywhere. The area was lovely so we would stay in the area again just not in this cottage.

This is our second time staying in the wonderful Scottish border village of St abbs in a year. The fact that we followed our long weekend last October with a full week this summer, speaks volumes for the location. We love the quiet harbour location and the fact that the village is so tiny, every cottage has sea views. We stayed at 1 Seaview Terrace, which benefited from a wonderful 2nd storey loft conversion, complete with French windows leading out onto a small balcony directly looking over the harbour and sea. And although the cottage could definately do with a bit of decorative updating, and in some areas, a good clean (like the windows!) it was full of period charm and character. We would definately stay again! The coastal path to Coldingham Bay is a lovely short walk, whilst the trek out to St abbs Head provides stunning views of the village, coastline and birdlife. The village now has a new lease of life as a renowned destination for diving and fishing trips, and bistles with these visitors at a weekend. But it never becomes overrun or crowded. It is the perfect destination for a tranquil coastal break or holiday. All it needs now, is it's own pub!

Good location, but needs a full upgrade and modernisation, to keep in line with the rental fee. Extra charge for bed linen and you have to make your own bed!

St Ives, CambridgeshireWhat a stunning village to stay in.
Left on 06/16/2011 for a stay in May 2011
This village was peaceful with little activity in the week - great. Harbour was a hive of people at the weekend come for the excellent undersea diving around the coastline. This cottage was clean and tidy, although could do with a lick of paint! The loft conversion is superb with views of the harbour and coastline. Fantastic walking from the door. Strange you have to supply your own linen (not encountered this before), but at least we were prewarned.

Mossend, Lanarkshire.Fantastic location.

Fantastic location, plenty of space. The decor would be a bit 1970's for some, by I didn't have a problem with that. The only serious grouch I would have is my family being charged ?20 on arrival for bed covers, which were under lock and key in a closet. I would certainly have expected covers on the bed to be part of the holiday I had paid for in advance, never encountered this before.
