We've stayed at Skyward three years now, and it is such a great location. The layout of the house is perfect for a few families to hunker down together and not feel on top of each other. Great place to stay!

My family enjoyed Skyward very much. Trail access was good and we had excellent snow conditions. The outdoor hot tub was a hit, as was the pool table for the non-skiers. We made use of the convienent shuttle to go to the alpen Inn a few times. We would reserve Skyward for next year, except it was already booked. This was our 4th year at Powderhorn, and we will be back. Thanks to the home owner's for sharing their wonderful ski lodge. And, thanks to the always friendly & professional staff.

I do think that this was the best year for Snow in many years. We loved Skyward since we had a big group. We did have some very bad luck. The first night we woke to no heat. It took them all day to get the heat going. It was 48 in the house very very cold. 6 of our party got stranded on the chair lift for 1.5 hours in -15. With all that bad stuff Charlene tried to make it up to us. They gave us a credit on our house and on our lift tickets. We did not have to complain much they were very understanding. We all have a wonderful time even with the other problems. We will come back next year. This is our 10th year in coming to Big Powderhorn.
Left on 01/15/2014 for a stay in January 2014 | Three Generations
We had the misfortune of having our vacation during the Polar Vortex with wind chills of 40 below zero. The ski resort was closed for our entire stay except for the last day. How fortunate we were to be staying in Skyward. We had three generations there and it was wonderful to watch the 83 year old Grandparents play pool, darts and scrabble with their grandchildren. Skyward had all the amenities which allowed the eight of us to find ways to be entertained even though we were house bound for four of our five days. My only complaint was that the window in the main level master bedroom, which is were my elderly parents stayed, leaks cold air terribly, something I did not learn of until afterward. It was also quite pricey for one family, but if split between several groups, would be ok. We all loved Skyward and the beautiful views it affords. We want to come back and will stay at Skyward again. It is peaceful and quiet yet has great ski in and out access through a small strip of trees. The staff at Bpoa were wonderful. Read more

We slept 21 people comfortably. (With a few blow-up mattresses). Lots of bedrooms, with comfy beds; dishwasher and garbage disposal in the well-equipped kitchen; plenty of seating for eating and lounging; spectacular views of trees and slopes made for a winning winter experience. We especially appreciated the open floor plan, which made for easy conversation and child supervision. The lower level allowed for people who wanted some alone time to retreat for awhile. The only small dissatisfaction was the shut-down of the ski-to lift adjacent to the home because of strong (?) winds. We hope to return annually!

-Both upstairs and downstairs fireplaces were excellent at providing heat and drying gloves.
-Window in downstairs bedroom was wide open (fell open, faulty latch), bad seal around window, cold air all night, but covers were adequate and plentiful.
-Outside hot tub turned way down, couldn't use first night, took 24 hours to heat up.
-Lots of slippery ice around hot tub and no salt to lay down.
-Great ski 'in' but had to walk 'out' (up hill). Could have a ski 'out' path going other direction (down the hill).
-Lots of dishes and glasses and silverware and cooking supplies.
-All in all a good house. Not that it's within any of your control, but the owners of the mountain didn't seem to have much urgency in getting any more runs open. There were several runs with plenty of snow and they didn't spend much time while we were there preparing them. However, they opened them the day after we left.

We have travelled to Big Powderhorn Mountain for many years for our winter ski vacation. We enjoyed our stay at Skyward. The living room and dining areas are open and a nice area to gather as a group. The kids enjoyed the lower level game room. Everyone also enjoyed the outdoor hot tub. We look forward to returning next January.
Our summer visit to Skyward
Left on 08/01/2012 for a stay in July 2012 | George
Overall, the experience was good and we had a fun time while visiting Ironwood including some golfing. The downside was the lack of air conditioning at Skyward. We've been renting on the ski hill during the summer for 15 years and only twice did we get stuck with really hot and humid weather. Traditionally, we get a house with aC. The only additional problem was that when we opened the windows, the screens had holes in them or the screens were damaged and did not have a tight fit --- welcome the mosquitoes. Finally, some of the other large houses on the hill have had improvements in the last 5 years. Skyward seems to had minimal if any improvements. In the future I am going to make sure that for a summertime rental I have air conditioning.
Family Reunion - Awesome rental unit with everything but aC!!
Left on 07/11/2012 for a stay in July 2012 | Shells
We stayed in the Skyward unit on the week of July 4th. Everything was wonderful including the hot tub that we used at night! The fully equipted kitchen allowed our family to cook meals at home which saves a lot of money when you have 10 people eating. The location was close to waterfalls, Lake Superior-Little Girls Point, and lots of other sight seeing!! My father grew up in the area and we attended a family reunion. We experienced 90 degree weather while visiting. This rental has everything but aC!! We were able to keep cool in the basement during the day and the bedrooms cooled off at night so that we could sleep. I would definitely stay here again (just hopefully when it is not so hot outside).

Skyward is a good rental for a group of people. The kitchen is very well equipped for cooking & serving a crowd. The three bathrooms & bedrooms are more than adequate. The lower level game room helps to separate out the kids & their games & noise. The lodging office is always helpful answering our questions & helping us out with little problems & clean towls. We all had a good time & hated to pack up for home on Sunday.
We had a very nice experience!

The only thing that I didn't like about Skyward was the entryway. It was too small and got very crowded. Otherwise everything else was perfect and very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing your home!
Favorite Lodging at Powderhorn!

Everyone at the lodging headquarters were friendly and most helpful. We have stayed at Skyward for four years while at Powderhorn and a few other places. This is our favorite - well equipped, several bedrooms, ease of skiing to the slope and very clean. We did have a bit of trouble with the dishwasher bottom tray wheels falling off and the door doesn't close easy - but other than that, a super place. Unfortunately, Skyward is booked solid for the 2013 ski year!

Our group of 10 women have stayed at Skyward for the last 10 years. We love this condo! There is plenty of room for all of us; the kitchen is plenty big for gathering, eating, drinking and laughing. There are 3 levels to this building with a full rec. room on the lower level. The hot tub is large enough for a group with a great view of the hill. We love the ski-in ski-out feature. It makes getting on the hill so easy - only thing better would be to have a lift ticket dispenser in the kitchen! All of the staff at Powderhorn are wonderful. Always a great time here!!

Great lodging experience - Poor mountain experience
Left on 01/04/2011 for a stay in December 2010 | Kim P.
After looking forward to our family ski vacation, we arrived to find out that only 7 ski runs were open. The lodge was accomodating by lowering our rental to a premier instead of trailside. However we rented trailside for ski in ski out convience. This is the first time in almost 35 consecutive years that we were denied that luxury. And not in part to lack of snow, 10 to 30 inch base. We are still struggling to understand why you would rent trailside without informing us that we would not be able to ski in and out. We were lucky to be able to book this vacation only to be disappointed when we got there. The policy for when the slopes will open should be made known so we could decide whether or not to cancel. At least there was a shuttle available so we did not have to drive down and rent a locker.
The house was beautiful. Newly updated. Great outdoor hot tub. We were probably the first renters of the season and were surprised to run out of gas. Thought that it should have been checked before arriving, but had heat a few hours later. After so many great memories at Powderhorn we now feel disappointed and cheated out of our vacation.
Great family weekend!

Planned a family weekend as a gift to our parents. We were extremely happy with the cabin which exceeded our expectations. Visited the waterfalls just up the road, did some mountain biking, and did some great family bonding in the cabin. Only complaint was that the hottub was not filled. If planning a summer trip just remind them and they will be happy to have ready for you.
Highly recommend it!

We've been renting at Powderhorn for at least fifteen years during the week of the 4th of July, and had stayed in Skyward about six or seven years ago. The next year, we had to switch to Slopeside, since the owners were occupying over the 4th.
My husband has since become dependent on a walker, so the steps up to the living area in Slopeside dictated a change of venue, which just happened to be Skyward, where the necessary facilities were on the main floor, made even more ideal by the large walk-in shower. We didn't waste a second reserving Skyward.
The only things missing were ceiling fans, which would have provided some added comfort with the high temps, humidity, and dew points. And I sort of 'panicked' when I was unable to turn on the oven, but my 'handyman husband' solved the procedure problem, and we were in business.

The accomodations were wonderful, very spacious in the kitchen, dining and living room areas. Loved the hot tub! Wrap around deck was beautiful and view couldn't be beat. Location, location, location was the BEST. Very comfortable beds and plenty of them--good setup for multiple families. Only draw back was a gas fireplace and not a wood one. But enjoyed how quickly the fireplace heated up the room. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Very satisfied, with a couple of suggestions
Left on 02/04/2010 for a stay in January 2010 | pragmatic
The accommodations wree great. Each couple had their own room. The recent upgrades to the bathrooms were noticeable and appreciated. This unit is not stunning or extravagant. It is just a solid place for a large group with varying interests and activities while not enjoying hte slopes.
It is apparent that there are some outside repairs that need to occur, but it did not imopact our stay. The hot tub needsa good cleaning and the grill needs to be upgraded to something more than a Walmart special.
Our opinion - BPLA needs to consider lowering prices to increase rentals. We were told that less than 1/2 of the units were rented. The slopes were noticeably sparse of skiers. The Alpen Inn was almost deserted.
We have enjoyed trailside accommodations for nearly 15 years, this is by far the fewest skiers we have ever seen. We are concerned the new BP management may not be able to make it, and if they close the hill the unit values will be a fraction of what they have been.
