St LouisAwesome
Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We went for some spring skiing in the greater up (Bessemer) and found this perfect lodge sitting trailside! We traveled with an eclectic party: 4 adults, 1 pre teen and one 85 year old Great Grandma! We had an awesome time! This rental is perfect. It is quiet, right off the slope (ski in and ski out), 3 bedrooms each with their own bath, enough living area to have family time, well appointed kitchen (with Dishwasher!) and fireplace. The beds and linens are "good enough" and the decor is dated but well cared for. They allowed the dog! Actually I'd love to own this place because it could be an amazing condo! This is across from the bar and grill that is also ski in and ski out. Just a word on Skiing the up. Big Powderhorn isn't the most challenging resort but it is big, wide open, has an excellent set up with several bars/restaurants. With lots of lifts open the waits are non-existent and nothing is that crowded. The best thing about it, is the lodging. All the individual cabins/houses/condos make it unique to the area. I definitely recommend trailside if you can afford it, if not the places in the village are very nice as well. This is the perfect family resort. After the hill closed at night all the kids grabbed their sleds and sledded down the easier hills. My grandmother was able to stand out and watch or sit in the window and watch us ski by. Blackjack is a nice place but less polished. Indianhead has better skiing for more advanced skiers. But you can drive to either from Big Powderhorn. So lodge there, drive over. Its worth it. Everything at all three resorts (with the exception of the main lodge at BPH) needs to be remodeled. Everything is stuck in the 70s when skiing in the Midwest was at its biggest. Just go with the flow and enjoy the outdoors, don't worry about the decor!

Bourbonnais, IlThis is our annual family vacation...we call it Heaven!
Left on 01/26/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We have been coming to Big Powderhorn Mt. for the past 30 plus years. It has become one of our favorite family time trips. We keep adding more and more skiers. This year our 3 yr old grandson took to the slopes! What fun it is to see everyone have a good time relaxing and playing. We have stayed in numerous chalets through the years but do enjoy the trailsides the most with little ones now going. This year we were to be in Holiday Haus and the snow conditions prevented it from being trail accessible so we switched to Timberline which we have stayed in previously, as well as Timbercrest. Probably we will not choose that chalet again until some upgrades are made as there are many nicer accommodations now. It was a great time anyway...we made do for 2013.

The Willis family
Manitowoc, WisconsinWe had a cozy family time at a cozy winter lodge.
Left on 01/12/2012 for a stay in December 2011
We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Timberline. We checked in on December 26 in the early evening. The layout of the rental was wonderful! We enjoyed the open concept large living room area with the dinette table and kitchen area on the side. With the three bedrooms and the foldout couch, we had almost enough bedroom space for our entire family, with our son sleeping on the foldout couch. The kitchen was completely equipped and we were able to make and serve meals. There was enough seating for our family between the kitchen bar area and the dinette table.
There were only two things that were disappointing.
The first was that we were supposed to be in a trailside lodge but because of snow conditions that was not the case. We realize that was unavoidable and we were given a price consideration to offset this matter. The second was that there was ice (from snow dripping from the roof) on the stairway leading into the lodge. This was concerning for several family members, including our pregnant daughter, and for me because I have knee issues. Our future son-in-law fell coming down the steps. There was no salt to melt the ice. In retrospect we should have contacted the lodging association to deal with the ice. I believe that they would have helped. We plan to come again because our overall experience was so good! -

We had a good time. The Fall colors were brilliant! Timberline is showing it's age though. Could use some freshening up and some repair work, such as on the sliding windows that didn't seem to work. Overall it was comfortable and gave us the room we needed.
