What Past Guests Are Saying
great location but run-down condo
We chose this condo for the 2nd year in a row because we liked the location and the price and we knew it from last year. But we forgot about all the things that annoyed us then and they were still a problem this year. It's just run-down. Dishwasher works sometimes, sometimes not. The vacuums, 2 of them, did not work and had to call for a replacement. Same thing last year. The grill has a hole on the bottom so it doesn't get hot enough to cook the food properly, had to borrow neighbors grill. Water pressure in the main bathroom very low, takes forever to get clean. Trash can missing lid so had to improvise using a plastic bag to keep masses of flies from infesting the kitchen/living area. Dvd not functional, no instructions on how to use the TV/DVD. Ended up having kids watch Dvd's on computer we brought with us.
What's great is its proximity to the beach and a playground/tennis courts. Could watch kids on playground from the condo. Great for families with kids. Great view from master bedroom and outdoor dining area off kitchen/living room. Nice and quiet in most northern part of Bethany.
Dune Road North Bethany
Second year in a row we stayed in this house. Comfortably sleeps 10. Very small kitchen but it fit our needs. Great view of the ocean from the master suite on the fourth floor. There is also a balcony to sit on. Everything was in working order. I would not recommend this for anyone that has trouble with stairs. There are a lot of stairs. We like this location because of the private beach which is about five houses (condos) away. Very convenient. The location is in North Bethany about three miles away from main street.
Very happy with location and beach access, loved the master bedroom, great view of beach and indian river bridge. Salt pond which is close by was a nice golf coarse.Very satisfied with house
Great Place - Some Issues
The primary problem was Wilgus' policy of allowing the cleaning service until 8:00 p.m. to complete cleaining the property. We arrived at 3:00 as specified and had to wait until they finished to get in. That's almost a half day lost, and there was no accomadation from Wilgus. They also wouldn't let us have a late checkout - by a couple hours the following Saturday. There were also a number of minor issues, including outlets that didn't work and some general maint stuff, (sliding door on third floor deck was off), but generally the property was great for several small families, and we'll likely be back.
Very close to the beach. The house had a great ocean veiw from the master bedroom. Nice to sit on the balcony off the master bedroom and read while enjoying the ocean view. Kitchen was very small but functional. Lots of stairs so if you have bad knees or very young kids it may not be to your liking. Ample parking. Very enjoyable, walked to the beach didn't have to worry about finding parking.
Met most of our needs
We enjoyed the majority of things about our rental, with a few exceptions. 1- the bottom floor room had a horribly uncomfortable futon as the sleeping option. I would recommend that the owners put an actual bed or better quality futon in that room. 2- the router must not have been working, because we could not get the wireless to work after trying 3 different devices. 3- there were dirty dishes put away in the cupboard. It was rather disgusting to reach in the cupboard for dishes, and have your hand come out with slimy food all over it.
What we liked best was the views of the ocean, and close location to the beach. What we liked least was the uncomfortable futon. We blew up our own air mattresses instead of sleeping on it.

The place needs some work
We gave an extended list of repairs needed when we checked out. Primarily, the house needs to be rewired. Circuits were overloaded, and an outlet in the bunkbed room was broken open/exposed. this was where our children slept. The place was a bit run down and the kitchen disorganized.
The place is nice and conveniently located near the beach.
We have been staying in 59 atlantic Watergate for many years. We are never impressed with the maid service before we move in but. The house is very nice and we very much like the close proximity to the beach. It would be nice to have a bit more parking space and not be jammed together but we make it work. The owner usually adds something new from year to year so overall we are satisfied with the accomodations. There is a possibility another family will be joining us in 2012 so we may have to look for a slightly bigger house but we do not want to lose the proximity to the beach.
Needs some TLC
This house is in a great location, just steps from the path to beach. The neighborhood is nice and quiet too. I think this house was just average for us due to the feeling of being unclean. There was a problem with ants on the kitchen counter. There wasn't a ton of them but just enough to make you feel like you could not leave anything there for a minute or an ant would be in it! Also all over the house they had those rodent repellant devices, so that made me uneasy also. I think with some TLC this could be a better rental. The bathrooms were updated so that was a bonus and the size of the place is good also. I agree with the person who said way too many dishes for the size of that kitchen, doesn't leave much space for food. The carpets on the steps are very dirty, bad choice with the light color. So overall unless these things were improved I would not feel comfortable here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. This home has undergone many updates and improvements from simple things like to paint to new furnishings. While the home has been purged, it appears based on your comments that more needs to be done in the kitchen area - this will be addressed. As for ants and what you are calling "rodent traps" ... these are merely deterent items. Our sandy soil is more suitable for ants and other water/sand loving critters than most areas. Each home is sprayed twice a season but sometimes they still find their way in....I know...not glamorous just a simple fact of life here. As for the dirty carpets, now that I know - I will have them cleaned.
too many steps
Great location for the beach, but anyone with leg problems or heart issues may want to stay elsewhere. If you have little ones, the steps may pose a problem for them too. Lower level was musty, second floor bedroom next to kitchen and living area, but the bathroom is off the bedroom, which might be a little inconvenient. Up another light of steps to a room that is divided with bunks on each side. Up to the top level with the king size bed. While the place sleeps a lot of people, the kitchen is a postage stamp and difficult to work in for more than one person. i had knee surgery several years ago and by the time I left, it was quite swollen due to the steps. Take heed!
Our Bethany Beach vacation-2010
As we have done for the last # of years. We rented 59 atlantic Watergate with my family, my parent's and Friends of ours. This year there was a total of 10 people. We found a few improvements to the house from last year when we were there. Overall, we enjoy #59 with the proximity to the Beach and also to Bethany, Rehoboth and Ocean City. We will be staying there in 2011 as well.

had a great time.
The stay was nice, the place was good also but were missing a broom and dust pan so we bought one and left it there for future customers, some of the appliance were dirty from others prior (toaster oven) and the trash bin although emptied frequent was so small and filled up quick for our crew staying there. The place overall was acceptable and it was in a nice location that we certainly would consider again because of the location.
59 atlantic watergate
The home was cluttered, closets and corners piled with junk leaving no place to put our own belongings. It is in need of a major detailed cleaning. There is bug larvae on the cooking utencils, cob webs in the corners, and some sort of cocoons growing on the backs of the chairs. The upstairs bedroom smelled of feces of some sort. With the rain we had while visiting, there were many leaks, which we had buckets under through the storms. My daughter brought her two children to visit, ages 1 and 3, but had to leave early due to the hazards in the piles of tools and odd items creating a hazard for curious hands. The 3 year old developed a ringworm infection from an unknown location within the house.
This is not what I would expect from a professional rental company, or a home owner committed to renting out a vacation property. I do not plan on renting from Wilgus Associates in the future.
Response from Wilgus Associates - 10/10/2009
Thank you for the feed back. This home is a "beach home". There are no bugs, larvae, cocoons, or health hazards. This unit has been updated with new bathrooms and kitchen. The owner does use one closet for their personal items but will now make it available for use by the guests. The other closets were in dissaray - but not at fault of the owners. The closets house extra blankets, pillows, and comforters - which through the season were apparantly not placed back in a neat and orderly manner. On another note, we never heard from you during your entire stay, so we were unaware of any issues that you were having with the unit. The owner has already had her contractor come down to look at the windows that were leaking during the storm.
Could have been clean and livable
The rental charge was relatively inexpensive, so I wasn't expecting the greatest accommodations. But I do expect a place to be clean and livable. We were not able to use the downstairs efficiency due to the smell- musty and moldy or pet urine smell, I am not sure which. When I called about that I was told that was not a cleaning issue that could be rectified, we would have to call maintenance? So I just blew it off. We did complain about the rest of the place being unclean- and someone came. They did not bring their own vaccuum and the unit's vacuum did not work- bad start. Furnishings/etc were about what was expected- we were warned that the unit was older- so I was not disappointed with the size of the unit or state of the furniture. It is a decent community and the location is great to the beach etc. They had lots of beach equipment too, which was nice; although they did not have a useable grill- not a major problem, just an annoyance. This place could be adequate, but I can't be comfortable renting a place in which I do not feel clean. I would not rent this unit again.

Thank you for the feedback. When these units were built (many years ago), building codes were different and the ground floor efficiency does sit directly on the sand (no foundation under foot). This does cause the lower level to feel damp and does require the use of a dehumidifier which we have asked the owner to get. The unit has been thoroughly cleaned including the carpets. We will address the grill in the spring.
The Spaulding Family Clan
We have been staying at Atlantic Watergate for nearly 40 years and love the Tower Shores area. This townhome had all the room we needed, plus was VERY close to the beach- which is great because we have some young children in our group. The central air worked well. Love the outside shower...never used the indoor one. The photo map in the living room is interesting, as are all the decorations.
The only complaint I have is that the kitchen cabinets are filled to overflowing (three sets of dishes) so that it was almost impossible to store our groceries. There must have been enough plates etc. to serve 50 people. One set of dishes would be sufficient. All the bedroom closets were the same way....filled with extra unnecessary bedding. It would be great if the owners would go through and remove some of this stuff to make room for renter's needs. The only other issue we had is the stairway. Many of the units when remodelleld, have removed the wall that hangs low in the stairway. My husband cracked his head a number of times on it.
However, since location, location, location is so important we are planning to rent the same unit this year. Also the unit is reasonably priced for the area.
