Pure "Get away from it all!"

Left on 09/13/2012 for a stay in July 2012

No noisy roads. Fields back and front. Superb views over the distant hills and over the river to the forest. Absolutely pure "Get away from it all". Short distance from Bewdley (which is a beautiful town)
Well equipped bungalow with a very welcome "Welcome Pack".
Just lovely to sit by the big picture window or at the table on the terrace and just enjoy the peace and quiet and the view (especially if there was a sunset). Hope to return.

The view, looking left. The view, looking right. A frequent visitor.

Budget accomodation at a budget price

Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in July 2012

The access road to this property is at best daunting at worse dangerous a single track 1.8 mile road frequented by some very challenged drivers. On arrival at the accomodation we attempted to reverse onto the sloping, loose shingled so called drive, we got stuck !! and had to wait to be towed off by the owner. Hillary is not a log cabin or a cottage its an extended wooden clad chalet on a site of other chalets. Warm and comfortable with fantastic views from the patio, unfortunately you cant see the river or the railway line as an earlier reviewer stated. It is in need of some TLC and a little too tacky for us. It was very well appointed and had every thing you needed all somewhat dated but at hand nevertheless.

      Reasonable enough

Left on 06/08/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Firstly , we booked this place at the last minute due to forecasted bad weather for our camping trip. Not sure if it is a "cottage" in my sense of the word. It is more a chalet / wooden lodge. It is set at the top of a valley overlooking the Severn steam railway. The setting is very peaceful and although it is not straight forward to get to, that didn't cause us any problems. The chalet was clean , tidy and warm with a very nice Welcome Pack of bread, jam, scones, milk, which is a nice touch. Two good size bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and dining area and a large lounge give this a cozy feel. There is a nice verandah area at the front of the house and I'm sure when the sun is shining it would be a very nice place to unwind at the end of the day. The only thing I can suggest for improvement really is the "chintzy" carpets, curtains and bedding that is used. That is just an observation not a criticism.
Unfortunately for us it rained the majority of the time but this chalet would be a good location for visiting the surrounding area.

      Holiday perfection

Left on 04/22/2012 for a stay in March 2012

We have rented cottages all over the British Isles & have to say this was the most comfortable & best appointed one we have yet to find!
It had everything we needed & more. The cottage itself sits in a wonderful position above the River Severn, the Severn Valley Railway & views out across the Wyre Forest. The fact that one whole end of the cottage is glass that incorporates these views made it even more special. We were lucky that our week in March had wonderful weather & we were able to make use of the patio doors & balcony that runs the full width of the cottage to take in those views.
The welcome pack of homemade scones, homemade jam & marmalade plus all the other essentials was a wonderful surprise.
It was amazing to find not only dog bowls, but towels & treats left out for them..never felt so welcome with our dogs.
The cottage is set approx 1 1/2 miles from Bewdley..which makes it just perfect. We found it easy to find along a quiet country road & had no issues accessing the cottage itself by road or had any issues with the parking of the car...

Excellent stay, but can you get out?

Left on 03/03/2012 for a stay in December 2011

General tenure, facilities and condition of the cottage accommodation was excellent, with a good view over the river and railway in a lovely area.

It's position must be regarded as remote, though, and it is virtually essential to have the use of a vehicle to access the cottage. The road to it is long and poor and access could be very difficult or impossible in snowy or icy conditions.

Also, the driveway of the access road is both steep and of loose grit. This means that some cars will have difficulty, even in good conditions, from getting off the driveway. We had to park on the field above the cottage to avoid being stuck in the drive. This possibility should be advised to prospective users, or the drive should be properly metalled for vehicular access.

Clean comfortable and in ideal location

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Upon arrival we were concerned to find it was a chalet and not a cottage as described in brochure but now appreciate that this was new to the brochure at the time of booking and external photograph was not available but upon entry we found it to be clean tidy and well equipped. It is in an ideal location and we would not hesitate to return. [its perfect for a dog]
